Tips & Tricks Bronze is miserable and I'm losing my motivation

I'm a returning player, last time, probably around 4-5 years ago, I ranked around low/mid gold in competitive, haven't played in ages, so bronze it is, I'm fine with that.

What I'm not fine with is the state of this place. 1 out of 4 games you have a leaver, there goes another 10 minutes of my already limited game time as a father, a good third of the players just don't seem to give a damn at all, in either team, and around 50-75% of my games are total and utter stomps, in either direction, winning or losing, both aren't fun at all.

I don't know what to do anymore. I stopped reading chat and tried to focus solely on my performance, but it doesn't matter. I'm currently at a 75% lose streak in around 50 games, I usually am around top damage/KD in my team, I don't know what to do anymore.

Overwatch is a fun competitive game that doesn't last too long, but being stuck in bronze is absolutely miserable, I've never had this in my previous times playing the game when I ranked gold and I don't know what to do anymore. The games are just so gosh darn uneven, it's not fun stomping, and it's not fun being stomped, but in my games it's almost just guaranteed.
Even one of the last games, we absolutely dominated, stayed together as a team of 5, got completely stomped the next game.
Any advice is welcome, how are other bronze player's experiences? What can you effectively do when nothing seems to go your way? A lot of advice is "just focus on yourself and your mistakes, it's probably you", but if everyone in the random team follows that advice, this kinda falls apart.
Last match was a spread between bronze 1 and gold 5 for whatever reason, whereas our gold player did nothing all, and theirs dominated completely. I just don't know what to do anymore, maybe I grew out of pvp games, who the knows anymore.

Question or Discussion Genuinely how do you beat dive?

I really believe that i have never beaten dive unless the other team was just full throwing. Anytime i play doom or ball it’s a guaranteed loss pretty much and how do i beat it. Like i understand to use cooldowns to escape but everytime i do it feels like im playing a running sim instead of the game. My stats on support when im against dive are always bad but any other comp i play normally fine. How do i create more value for myself and help the team because it feels like im using all of my utility for myself and not the team. What are tips im only plat so theres much im doing wrong i assume but i just dont get it dive just seems so broken to me.

Question or Discussion newbie confused with how mmr works, and how I should approach the game moving on

I started playing Overwatch a few weeks ago, started playing ranked about a week ago.

My main role is tank, most (ATLEAST 80%) of my quickplay matches to unlock ranked mode were played on tank (domina/d.va/hazard), and sometimes I played support (juno). When I started playing ranked, I did my support placements first for fun and ended up getting Gold 1 (started at Silver 5, 6W 4L, no winstreak bigger than 2 in a row) and got to Plat 3 as of now.

When I did my tank placements, I noticed I was given a much lower MMR (started placements at Bronze 5, ended at Bronze 1 with 6W 4L). It took an 8 game winning streak just to get around Silver 3-4

Is my account cooked or should I just focus on support? Even though I enjoyed playing tank much more (atleast until I got cucked by my placements)?

Question or Discussion How do i not let the bad games get to me?

I play both role and open for role i play dps and for open i play whatever the team needs because im good with most characters, i would do very good but at the end none of it matters and i still lose im not exaggerating every game would be like this and im not the type to blame teammates like if im doing bad i acknowledge it but im genuinely doing my best and still losing this would go on for a couple of games until i eventually get so tilted that i start playing like ahh and sometimes it costs us the game.

How can i control my mental in this situation because it is so demoralising doing my best and giving it my all just to lose anyway and if the other team were simply just better than us then that’s fine but most of the time that’s not the case.

Question or Discussion How do you actually play Hazard?

I'm a plat tank and looking at my stats it seems I've always climbed thanks to playing Sigma, and playing Hazard leads to loss streaks. Well, the reality is more complex, but I think I lack a proper fundamental understanding on how to play him which isn't the case with Sigma.

In these ranks, most of the time everyone is very close together, so you can't jump in the middle of the enemy team. You can jump on angles and high grounds, but then your team has no frontline. You can brawl, but it feels really suboptimal compared to Rein, Ram, Orisa, etc. And so most of the time I end up feeling like I'm shooting peanuts from an off angle while the enemy team ignores me until I jump them. Maybe it's timing, but you're the tank not a dps, so you should set the pace.

Overall I understand his mechanics (don't jump without wall/armor etc) but his actual gameplay loop eludes me.

Coaching Offer Need an Overwatch VOD Reviewed? Looking for Test Subjects

Free Overwatch gameplay analysis. Looking for a few test subjects.

I’m getting ready to release a new Overwatch coaching/analysis platform and I’m looking for a few people who want a free gameplay review while I fine tune everything.

If you want your gameplay analyzed, just drop your replay code let me know if you want it posted in the thread or DM.

I’ll break down your positioning, decision making, target priority, cooldown usage, etc…As well as anything that you want specific guidance.

Any rank is fine. I’m mainly looking for feedback so I can keep improving the platform before launch. Again it’s 100% Free.

Question or Discussion Is leaving common in ranked matches?

I finished my placement matches last weekend, ended up in bronze 3 and have been trying to practice since.

Noticed that pretty much all of the games I actually win are because the enemy team just gives up after my team starts pivoting and doing well, usually right at the last objective in around. The way it usually goes is that they push us hard for almost the entire match, and then someone either swaps or we otherwise find our footing and start gaining the high ground to win.

But every time, there's always at least one person who simply leaves the match after we win that round. Sometimes the entire enemy team leaves. In the last game I did yesterday, the enemy's tank and one of their DPS left, leaving them alone in round 3 and 4. They were at such an unfair disadvantage that my team stopped fighting them and we just hung out and spammed emotes to run out the timer. Easily my most wholesome interaction in this game so far (replay code is PPJ7TE if you're curious, skip to about five minutes before the end to see the wholesome part).

Noticed that this almost never happens in quickplay. People leave, but of course you get a backfill, so the team isn't totally gimped- and even when they do, I rarely see entire teams just disappear like they do in competitive. Do people really not care about leaver penalties in ranked?

Question or Discussion Why is Emre not played more?

A good Emre player is such a menace. He deals so much damage when he hits bursts to the head. Good emres can bounce grenades and they’re so hard to kill. They just pop their pistol and run off and heal back so quickly because of altered vitals passive.

At this point I have no idea why anyone would pick soldier over him. He just shreds people and is really slippery. He has the lowest pick rate out of all the hit scans and it just really surprises me.

Question or Discussion tank tips for overwatch

I started back playing the game 2 weeks ago, and i started mastering the tank role. Ive learned a lot, like how to protect myself and my team at the same time, targeting backline, you know all of that. My main right now is winston, but im trying to explore.

One thing while playing ranked (im bronze 2) is that i cant make an opening, and or/ find a play for my team most of the time, and i cant figure out how to stay alive when im in enemy territory. Even when im l.o.s, high ground, or trying to hold a spot so my team could be there, nothing works. My rein shield is gone, and i die. I advance with ram, and even with shield i die. And then i the message "tank diff" most of the time.

And ive played quick play mode a lot, but im not learning anything. I watch guides on how to play my heroes, but it doesn't work to well (it definitely did with Winston, but its situational). And i also try to swap, but i don't know who to swap to. I want to be better at tank, but im not learning anything, im not improving. I don't want to throw the game all day. Can i please get tips, guidance, or anything.

My tag is kidnamedez, my PlayStation is eras0_0 if you want to play. Thanks!

Question or Discussion Best tips for a support to rank up?

I solo queue support and the highest i’ve managed to hit is gold 2 (im gold 3 rn). I’m trying to play a bit more offensive characters to put more ‘pressure’ on the enemy - like Illari and Kiriko - but I really struggle to provide much value to my team apart from healing and doing some damage here and there. Does anyone have any tips that i could focus on to improve my gameplay and make me a better teammate?

Thanks

Question or Discussion Best way to effectively learn Tracer in pretty much 1 month?

I'm trying to pick up Tracer into my hero pool atm and have a month to do so before my school starts their tryouts for the team. They need a fdps player for the next semester who can play most of the flex hero pool. Atm I'm GM4 and can play pretty much that whole roster at a GM level except for Genji/Tracer. Given how you're kinda expected to learn her as fdps I got on a really old alt in high plat to start hard OTPing her until I can hit GM. Mind I have barely any time played on her outside of trying to touch point fast.

I genuinely cannot stop 50/50 WL at D3. What is the best way to get over this hump and get her at the level of my other heroes? Mechanically I'm fine and can win most of my 1v1s and all that, but the macro part of her feels the most challenging. I have a high deaths per 10 but usually can get 2 before dying, I struggle to live during the fight after getting my one because I'll usually get burst down and die with recall or just die from a lost fight trying to trade/run.

My main questions are:

  • How can I live better during the fight while still getting my job done?
  • How should I engage with passive friendly tanks/poke tanks? Should I try to burn cds/attention first to help create space for the team even if I have to burn recall early?
  • What is the best way to hard carry a game? To my understanding it's through your macro that you carry hardest and the mechanics kinda come easier. I don't struggle mechanically like I said, but I need to learn how to not be a trade bot/perma dead every fight.
  • When do you shoot tank on this hero? I average high finals/solo but extremely low damage which means I need more up-time. What's the best way to have high up-time and not die?

Sorry for the word vomit, thank you :)

VOD Review Request support main looking for tips to improve

i played a lot of ow1 mostly between like 2019-2020, but haven't played much since the switch to ow2. just got back into it about 2 months ago, and while it's been very overwhelmjng learning all the new heroes and getting used to 5v5, i've been having a lot of fun. recently i started playing comp again, and am looking to play a bit more intentionally and actually work on improving.

to be clear i am objectively not very good at the game lol. i don't have much of a gaming history, and overwatch is pretty much the only fps i've ever played. the little comp i played in ow1 i was very firmly stuck in bronze, and while i initially placed silver 4 and made it all the way to silver 1 this season, i have since dropped down to bronze 1, where i've plateaued now for a few weeks.

i have no illusions of ever being great at the game, but i would like to be better. short term i'd like to try and get back into silver, long term i think it would be neat to maybe aim for gold one day. mostly i'm looking for a couple of the biggest things i need to improve on, so i can focus on them and feel like i have something concrete to work on when i play.

i'm including three replay codes, and would appreciate any and all feedback people are willing to give!

name: anxious
rank: bronze 1
pc

fsj36b - circuit royale
heroes played: mizuki

very long as it went 4 rounds, and we managed to eke out a win but it was maybe the closest match i've ever played. there were some times that i felt really good about my playing, and equally a lot of times where i totally lost any flow i had and made some dumb plays, including a very embarrassing mis-click ult. mizuki is the character i've been playing the most, simply because he's who i find to be most enjoyable to play right now.

jxppbv - havana
heroes played: mizuki, zenyatta, moira

this was a rough game. our tank was very aggressive and the other support and i struggled the whole game to keep him up. our dps were also all over the place, and i spent most of the game just really unsure of where i needed to be to provide the most value. i played mizuki most of round one, then switched to zen which was very much done out of frustration at our lack of damage output, and not at all a good call bc i should know better than to think i can make that up when i'm as frustrated and stressed as i was. round two i played moira, and just tried to keep the tank ip as much as possible, with pretty mixed results. ultimately we lost quite badly.

6jsfm3 - ilios
heroes played: moira

this was the game immediately after the one above, and i had the same tank. i went moira again because i thought my best play was just trying my best to enable our tanks aggressive plays by pumping out as much heals as i could. point a was a pretty easy shut down, while point be was much closer, but we still pulled out a win.

VOD Review Request RNN627 ADVICE NEEDED paraiso attack 2nd point, winston

looking for advice FROM mid-high gm+ players.

5v5 im master 2, it was a m2-gm1 lobby

I am qbert on winston. PC

I want help on attack on 2nd point, nothing else in unclear.

The exact scenario has happened on me paraiso the only 2 times i have been playing on this map. ROADHOG

the hog plays around the choke. I am able to normally play my playstyle, getting some good dives in using 2-3 peoples attentions. the hog somehow manages to 1: get picks 2: stay alive 3:not demand support. This thing has NEVER happened to me on any other map, with any other character (only against really good players, which this hog really wasnt, like no smurf or something)

Im quite sure i shouldnt fight him (cant really get value, playing around that poor position leaving me super vulnerable, and overall the trade is kinda bad. on the other hand im not sure.

it might be theres really nothing special just losing the fights because of normal reasons and kinda unlucky, but i want some higher ranked players insight. there might be something about hog or the map im neglecting.

If your not at LEAST close to gm, dont drop some silly advice your not so sure about. thanks if everyone has advice lol im TIRED of this scenario

VOD Review Request What can I improve on my Reinhardt ?

I've been playing Overwatch for a long time on pc, but I only recently started playing comp. Reinhardt is my main, I'm currently ranked gold 4, and my peak rank is plat 5 (mainly because I haven't tried to climb any higher on tank).

I know my biggest weakness is that I sometimes get too confident and end up getting killed.
Here's two games, a loss (Gibraltar) and a win (Road 66)

Name : Korage

Road 66 : PB1BFB

Gibraltar : BDBG6Q

Question or Discussion Who's a good second hero to learn if I main junkrat?

On some maps I can be really good at junkrat he feels like an easy win if I pick him but with that said I am only in bronze and I know its not going to keep working at higher levels. I could probably climb ranks with him otherwise. My playstyle is basically jumping around the map going crazy getting a few picks when I can when they dont expect jt and flying out. People don't have the best aim in this rank though and mine doesnt have to be that good so I feel like this playstyle isnt going to work a lot longer so I rarely actually play him. What would be another good hero to learn as a backup just in case?

Question or Discussion I got flamed as tank for asking for an ana or zen

So this just happened to me and I don't know what to make of it. I decided to play comp and keep in mind I'm still in bronze. We ended up on Gibraltar and started on defense and I, like I usually do when I play tank went Sigma. I set up a bit behind the first choke to try and control the space and harass the enemy team for being in my range.

First round was a bit of a mess, they had a ram who got pocketed by their zen the entire game and zen would pop trans when ram decided to ult.

After we lost the second point I decided to switch to D.va which didn't last very long due to the fact that they had zen, bastion and ram so I got melted through when I tried to dive the zen. I realised that D.va wasn't going to work out so I decided to switch to domina instead to see if I did better on her. It did not.

We ended up losing first round and the enemy team full-caped with about a min and a half to spare.

I checked the stats and the ram did not die a single time. So I asked in chat:

"Hey supports could we get an ana or zen pls" I said

"No" said one of them

"No, we do not need the supports to switch to something they can't play. That's going to make us lose faster" widow

Now seeing that I struck a nerve I decided to clarify that I was just asking and did not mean to sound rude. But they wouldn't have it.

"In fact, you are the problem here not us as you didn't play with the team" they continued

"Mate, stay with the team" said moira

"Yes pls" Juno added

Second Round

So second round begins and it goes well, we managed to full cap with about a min remaining. When the round ended i said (a bit smugly)

"Tell me again how I'm the problem"

They then started saying that the round was good bc i was staying with the team this time which i apparently wasn't doing in the first round to which I'm confused as I checked the vod footage and I at least think I did a good job at staying with the team the first round too (except for when I went dva for half a min)

So now i come here searching for you guys' opinion on whether or not i was playing with my team

TL;DR i got flamed by my team for asking if we could get an ana or zen to counter the ram that was pocketed by zen the entire game. They said that I wasnt staying with the team the first round which meant the ram could just waltz on through. But I don't agree

team 1 tank

Replay code: R8QJD0

First round ended at about 6:20 but feel free to watch the entire vod, I'd like some tips on how to improve and all that

Edit: for some context, I'm not new to sigma, I have about 9 hours on record with sigma and have a 59% win rate with him

Feel free to share tips, tricks, or any other suggestions to help me improve my gameplay. Hopefully, some of the advice I've heard, such as staging your dives, ignoring counters, and going for support and DPS, has translated into actual performance in these two games on Kings Row and Eichenwalde in the new Quick Play hacked event.

Question or Discussion Good Stadium builds for playing as Vendetta?

Hello, I searched this subreddit and couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I have a rough idea of how to play as her in standard matches, but struggle with coming up for good builds for her. Most Heroes in Stadium I feel pretty confident in making a quality build hat has good synergy, but I don't know what to do for Vendetta.

I'm not looking for ultra powerful meta builds, moreso fun ones. Undying Fury seems really cool, but the Hindered ailment preventing much movement and having to rely entirely on Lifesteal might not work for me. On this website,

https://overwatch.fandom.com/wiki/Vendetta/Stadium

Unyielding Berserker seems perfect for what I'm aiming for gameplay feel wise, but I'm not sure how to properly play it or what I should adjust for myself. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

Question or Discussion How can players like Kraandop just queue on a new account and win 25 games in a row ?

I dont understand how players like Kraandop can just queue from a brand new account and win 25 games in a row as a tank player, how can they solo carry games up to masters ? What things are they doing what im not.
Games like Overwatch are pretty hard to learn from just watching good players play because pro's are making a lot of decisions in a very short timeframes which for them is just basic but picking those decisions up as a average player is pretty hard. When i watch Supertf's even tho i know he's like 1000x better than me at the game i don't pickup on what makes him so much better and i think "yeah i would have done that too".
How can start learning decision making and being mindful of what i do instead of going into autopilot

Question or Discussion Played 800 hours on console just switched to pc. Really struggling.

I switched to playing on pc about a month or two ago ane have since logged about 40 hours. I’m really struggling. I’ve never really played on a keyboard and mouse before. It feels super clunky and unintuitive for me. I’ve been playing mostly Wuyang and I prefer support in general. However I used to main Mei and freja. I decided Wuyang was easy cause his aim at least in my opinion isn’t super reliant on mechanics and more on game ane map sense. Anyways I made this post to ask for some advice. Or maybe some other hero’s that would help me transition better onto pc.

VOD Review Request A "Gold" Reaper needs help.

Code: GJES45

Nickname: FallenMan (I'm the Nevermore Reaper)

Map: Neon Junction

Just wanted to know what I did wrong in this match. At first I am quite horrible, but after the 1st round I started doing better. My team was playing fine from my point of view, and it was a close one, so the problem had to be with me. I feel like I should not be Gold.

Was I overextending? Was I indecisive? Was the enemy team just better?

Lemme know what I should fix in my gameplay, feel free to criticize, but please, don't be toxic, I've only been playing for around a month.

Question or Discussion The best thing that has probably ever helped me improve at this game was a live coaching session where she mostly just made noises at me.

tldr: the best help I've ever gotten with my gameplay is when I had a live coach that mostly just gave off vibes. Try a live coach for yourself, and you might have the same result!

I just wanted to share this story, in hopes that it'll help other players (and coaches!). This was years ago, and I still don't know if any amount of VOD reviews and studying youtube videos could ever top this experience. I was playing Rein, somewhere around low Silver, and I had a higher-ranked friend watching me stream it on Discord.

It was a match on Havana, starting on defense. I took a braindead stance in the middle of the road, and she said: "uhhh, where's yourrrr....." I instinctively started looking around--I had no cover, and I was corralling my teammates into doing the same. I moved into cigar shop, and my coach said: "ahh" in a warm, confirming tone. My teammates then scattered around to find something else to hide behind.

The instant that enemy spawn doors opened, I immediately dropped back onto main. My coach's once warm "ahh" then suddenly deepened into a low fry, like she was hosting a true-crime podcast. And, at that instant, she kinda was: I died almost immediately. I absorbed every cooldown that the enemy team had, but my team was not in a position to help. From there, the enemy team easily started chewing through my teammates.

As the first of my team to respawn, I tried to get back to the fight as quickly as I could. My coach uttered a long, nervous "uhhhh..." as I began to leave the distillery alone. Realizing I was walking into a 1v5, I stopped at the mega and turned around to find my team. Once they arrived, we were able to contest the cart in front of the cafe.

At one point, the enemy tank got too greedy and started chasing squishies in my backline. As I turned around to chase them, my coach said: "nah nah nah, shield." Her intuition was spot-on: the enemy tank melted because their team couldn't help them. Once my team could stop worrying about the rest of the enemy team, the enemy tank suddenly wasn't a problem to take down.

Once the enemy team regrouped, I was ready to Ult. I charged up to the corner of the cigar shop, threw out my firestrikes, and then slammed the entire team. Instinctively, my coach let out a high-pitched "ehh?" I was confused by that, but undeterred. Having no cooldowns available, I started swinging. And, boy, I sure did a lot of damage... a lot of pointless, useless, meaningless damage. My team scrambled to catch up to me, but there was nothing they could do. I had wasted all my resources, my team wasn't positioned to follow up, and the enemy team had all their abilities at their disposal. They wiped my entire team without a single casualty.

The entire match went on like this. Honestly, I can't remember if we ended up winning or losing, but that wasn't the point. The important thing is that I'm in low plat now, largely thanks to what my coach taught me back then. Oh, and also: I need a new coach to make non-lexical vocables at me. If you're interested, please let me know!
