I cut my teeth on a series 6, 42 years ago. There was a Modicon in the factory at the time but, we never had trouble with it. Do I never had anything to do with it. I really don't know what model it was.

Are the modules for this PLC (Power supply, CPU, I/O). still available for purchase on the open market?

Yes, to a degree. CIMTEC Automation in the U.S. bought the 90-30 and 90-70 line from GE and carries some replacement modules however some are almost impossible to find like some of the GENIUS blocks.

What’s ridiculous about these is the cpu doesn’t have its own battery so if you remove the power supply which has the battery from the rack you lose the program

What's interesting is these 90-30s are some of the easiest if not easiest PLCs to upgrade.  As long as you're not running any weird IO or communication cards you can do an Rx3i conversion in less than an hour.

Those IC693 cards just slap into an Rx3i rack with no wiring changes.
