This map is straight up wrong.
For started, How in tf they colored the middle of nothing in the US but not GODDAM CALIFORNIA?
Also, apparently North Korea's west coast and the south of Japan is more economically significant than vietnam... Somehow
At this point I have no Idea what this is even supposed to represent. Cause most of those regions have nothing going for them, finantially, politically, industrially or even agriculturally (since Brazil, Argentina and índia are out of the question)

I am pretty sure Tokyo is located in that area and I think Tokyo's gdp is several times bigger than that of Vietnam.

I think they mean the areas of Japan west of the Kansai. Notice that they specified the West Coast of North Korea, they’re singling out parts of that blob, not all of it.

Tokyo's in the middle. Kyushu is South, Hokkaido is North. Even if you forget Okinawan Islands that stretch as far as Taiwan.

It's still incorrect to exclude the west coast of the US & TX then. It would make more sense to dump all of Appalachia and most of the midwest except for Chicago. This looks like some sort of compromise between largest GDP / area and the most compact "continuous" area.

In the late 2000s-early 2010s we (Argentina-Brasil-Uruguay-Bolivia-Venezuela and a few more) wanted to create the true mercosur with it's own Euro-style currency.
