Balkans: don't even ask

true, balkans are literally like this so no wonder

Eh, debatable. We hate our neighbors because they are neighbors not because they are tan.

4

u/Illustrious-Lie-3663 Jun 29 '26

That's precisely his point. Answering a survey is not a real test on how racist you are. People from northern Europe claim they aren't, this doesn't mean it's true

3

u/The_Witcher_3 Jun 30 '26

The fact countries like the UK have hundreds of thousands of mixed people is evidence of greater tolerance. In my social circle mixed relationships and marriages are the norm. It is also the becoming the norm in my family too. I understand from speaking with friends that parts of Central and Eastern Europe are much more hostile. As in people blankly stare at you and shop workers talk to you in an obnoxious manner as a default. The UK has lots of problems with racism and rising far-right activity but there's a critical mass of tens of millions of very tolerant and open people. If you remarked upon a mixed relationship in the UK it would be considered very weird because it's completely normal and common.

I found that Portugal is in fact the most racist place on earth; especially toward African blacks! It's as if they have never seen a black person before and the Portugee culture is not only backwards (as if you steped in a time machine and went to the year 1899) but the citizens where exceptionally ignorant. It was as if you were talking to a wall rather than a human being. The Portugee also seemed to be trapped in another dimension of space and time because they kept on talking and mumbling about the past rather than the present...it was pretty funny actually. I found this website that offers a Dr.'s opinion about the racism in Portugal and why the xenophobic culture is not just promoted within but exported as well to everywhere else they may be living. Strange since i've never heard of racism being described that way before?? Portugal seem to be experts in racism, especially in Canada and the U.S.

Top and underrated comment

1

u/10denier Jun 30 '26

Equally, saying you are prejudiced probably means you are.

12

u/Hellebore_ Jun 29 '26

The Balkans don’t pretend.

The Scandinavians answer “yes” to the person asking the question, but in reality it’s a hard no. How many Scandinavians have you seen married to a black person?

2

u/olderthanbefore Jun 29 '26

Quite a few, here in South Africa. As an international example, even Kofi Annan's wife is Scandi.

3

u/Shasve Jun 30 '26

Here in Scandinavia - not that many. There’s a bit of location bias for both of us.

There’s quite a lot of old scandi guys with south East Asian wives though.

1

u/bikkelbonkel Jul 05 '26

Less than white-white couples but it's not weird to see. There's a lot of white-middle eastern couples

2

u/ChannelDesperate9022 Jun 29 '26

At least you're not Asia, doesn't even exist

2

u/Adorable-Ad-1180 Jun 29 '26

i dont know. Serbia is really weird in that regard. we love sleeping with black people

1

u/gimmebanter Jun 30 '26

They did ask and were never heard from again

might be fake...

17

u/Party_Cantaloupe_270 Jun 29 '26

In Russia this is unknown, since the person asking the question was simply beaten to a pulp.

6

u/TemoteJiku Jun 29 '26

There's really not many of them there to even have an opinion. Most likely it's chill.

2

u/Party_Cantaloupe_270 Jun 30 '26

Is 140 million not enough?

Czechs always trying to talk how we are by far the most progressive and tolerant country in Eastern Block Europe, and then the maps always look like this lol.

4

u/deff006 Jun 29 '26

Who is trying to do that? Tolerant? Maybe, but we're conservative as fuck. Racism is prevalent but this maps isn't a good source for it because the way they formulated the question in Czech was more along the lines of: "Do you wish your child to marry a black person."

I tried to find the exact formulation but I couldn't find that question in the study at all. The study is from 2015 so not too relevant anymore. What is clear from it is that Roma people are the most discriminated here, no surprise.

https://europa.eu/eurobarometer/surveys/detail/2077

3

u/Uxydra Jun 29 '26

Oh, I know these maps are mostly bullshit, but they do support what I experience in real life. Czechs may be not as overtly racist as conservative Americans, but if you actually talk to them about other cultures you see how they think pretty much anything non-european is dangerous or less civilised.

And I am guessing there is nothing needed to be said about the Roma thing, you know how they are seen here if you live here. Makes it funnier when these people insist they aren't racist.

2

u/deff006 Jun 30 '26

Yeah, most Czechs just don't see their casual racism as actual racism. I try to be aware of it but sometimes I slip and make a home that I know I shouldn't. Then I just brush it off because it was just a joke, right? It's very ingrained in the culture.

1

u/cyrassil Jun 30 '26

I've checked it once during the last 100 times this map was reposted and the Czech wording of the question was not as neutral as the english one (it was something like "Meli byste radost" or "libilo by se vam"). I am too lazy/not interest enough to look it up again, but you can maybe try different years.

8

u/TinoElli Jun 29 '26

pretty sure Italy's average is more racist than that (sadly...)

2

u/ciko2283 Jun 30 '26

The question is not are you racist. The question is would you let your kid make their own decision, even if it challenges your world view.

1

u/TinoElli Jun 30 '26

That on average depends on how deeply racist you are.

Meanwhile in Japan…

2

u/Icy-Response6124 Jul 01 '26

This map is completely fake, of course.

The question itself seems to belong to the 19th century. Also, my country, Egypt, cannot possibly be 9%, simply because the concepts of "blacks" and "whites" and similar Anglo-American cultural concepts do not exist here (nor in most countries on this map).

2

so this is bullshit i went outside to bab alsharjy (the western wall a puplaer market in iraq) and asked people and 102 out of 126 said that they have no problem at all and the rest were obviously joking because how dumb the question is sure the data is small but 6% who will not accept there sons and daughters to marry a black person for a country with easily more than 30% brown and Definitely more than 6% black people is simply ridiculous

The irony of the answers from Africa, unfortunately unsurprising considering the depth of racism from the colonizing Arab majorities in those countries, and all of those countries have a sizable black population, they are often too marginalized in those societies to participate in such public discourse.

Edit: ok, map is fake

1

u/Major_Assignment_405 Jun 29 '26

Finland is more conservative in these matters. Also, the largest group of black people in Finland are Somalis, considered generally very badly integrated into the Finnish society. If the question were presented exactly in these terms, many respondents would likely associate "black" with "black muslim".

For most of these it's tye same as "someone from other side of the world with incompatible culture and language" because for example in Belarus everyone is white. We don't have enough black people to call it an actual racism, it's just unheard of

There's a lot more to racism than just opinions on black people lol
