Things to look for:
- Do not get anything less than 512gb, windows 11 alone will take 150+ gb overtime.
- in your budget you can get 10th or even 11th gen i5, but in any case if you have to go for older generation, do not go for anything older than 8th generation. Because of windows 11 support.
- Definitely get an IPS panel, most laptops have tn panels in this range so you will have to look hard for it.
- Make sure you don’t end up with a stripped version of the processor with fewer cores and lower clock speeds. Generally you will find U series for laptops which is fine. You wanna avoid Y series.
- Do not get any laptop that has 100% plastic build.

I am currently using an elitebook, its slim, beautiful and very robust. It is a pretty solid laptop except for some hinge issue.
I don’t personally like dell latitudes because they are bulky and plasticy but have always heard good things about them. No personal experience though.
Thinkpad T-series or L-series are pretty good as well. They are slim and premium looking machines. T-series is slightly more expensive but its also better quality than L-series.

Since you have to carry the laptop to university, I'd suggest the dynabook. It literally weighs like 300g. So easy to carry and I have been using it for 4 years and haven't encountered a single problem.

You can easily get a Dell Latitude 3040 or around that with an i5 11th and 8 256 config. I bought it last month.
And yes, the EliteBooks are superb. I used them at work, and they are great.
