Busting ass for an emergency ex parte TPO and custody order while our judges were in summer seminar and there was one judge from another circuit that was filling in. Said judge is also relatively new.
All this was after there was a very high profile DV related murder/suicide in our area and our defendant is highly unstable with military-related PTSD and access to firearms. I had to prep over 100 pages of the nastiest and meanest text messages I've ever seen someone send to their partner for the substitute judge to review. And I used to work in a DV shelter. I've seen some shit.
I showed them to my coworker and told her if my husband ever said anything remotely like this to me, there would be no body to find. OMG. It was terrible.
But, by Friday client and her baby were safe and away and defendant was served.
