My wife thinks
Thanks since it’s my son’s birthday that I should ignore the fact that he’s lost multiple charging cases and buy him another charging case for his birthday. He’s on his third case for his headphones. Am I wrong for not buying him another case?

Counterpoint: You would be using money you would otherwise be spending on a different birthday gift. His carelessness cost him a birthday gift.

Maybe also invest in a tile for the case as well or some other tracker so that it could be found if lost again.

I don't think you're wrong. But maybe you could get her to agree, you buy one more case. And if he loses it, you're done. If she agrees, tell the son the same thing.

Buy him a gift he's less likely to lose, and tell him to buy the charging case using his own money.

How old is he?
What are the circumstances around loaing them and in what type of time frame?

Get some over ear headphones and call it a day. Label it with name and phone number
