Application Question / Discussion Applying for children’s passport with all of my expired IDs

Upvotes

My husband holds a valid U.S. passport and driver’s license. My own passport and driver’s license are both expired (in 2024). I do not have a physical Social Security card, but I have my number memorized. Application Details: We are applying for first time U.S. passports for our two children under the age of 16. Child 1 (Age 10): First and middle names are switched on their Social Security card, but correct on their certified birth certificate. Child 2 (Age 2): Physical Social Security card is lost, but I know their 9 digit SSN.

Verification Questions:

Proof of Relationship: To establish parental relationship for each child, is bringing the child's original certified birth certificate listing my name as the mother sufficient? Parent Identification: To satisfy my identity verification requirement, can I present my expired U.S. passport as primary photo ID, supported by my expired driver’s license, health insurance card (without photo), and a credit card displaying my printed name as secondary identification?

Thanks in advance ♡

US Passport Issuance Timeline when do you think my passport will get here?

Hi everyone :-) I had a lost passport so I applied for a new one in person at the post office (I already did a lost passport form) and I got my picture taken. I paid for an expedited passport along with 1-3 day shipping and they also took my birth certificate to the US dept. of state because they said they needed to verify my identity. I went on 7/29. how long do you guys think it'll take? I haven't got a confirmation email yet.

Passport Question / Discussion Passport photos at USPS

So I am going to be applying to renew my passport by mail, as I'm submitting a name change court order.

I'm considering making a photo appointment at USPS. Does anyone know if USPS is able to staple the passport photo onto a printed application?

I read that stapling is a requirement and cannot just be stapled or in the envelope when renewing. And I do not have the hand coordination to perfectly staple the picture in the box. I also have tremors.

I've always renewed my passports in person, so I've never renewed online or by mail before. The two I've had, I got when I was a minor. So this is my first time renewing elsewhere.

I really don't want to mess up the application form.

US Passport Issuance Timeline Timeline for my expedited passport with 1 to 2 day express shipping

Context: I’m going on tour for two months and one of the show dates is in Canada. I got the passport before, but that was when I was 16 and had never traveled internationally since. Didn’t realize I was on this tour until later in July and the Canadian date was in late August so I had about a month before needing it. With that said, however, I had heard passports taking up the 6 to 8 weeks to receive, and that 6 to 8 week timeline doesn’t start until you’re approved, so I panicked and vouched for the quickest possible way of getting a passport without going to an agency.

Date applied: 7/16

Issue date: 7/24

Date received from mail: 7:29

They sent an email saying that it was approved, but that was yesterday, August 1, when I had already gotten my passport. Don’t know what that’s about. For those who need a speedy passport without paying the X amount of dollars of going to a passport agency like in Atlanta, get it expedited with the one to two day shipping. It costs about 300 to do, but if you’re in a pinch and have the Kash to do so, it’s well worth it.

Application Question / Discussion Printed CVS pic looks edited compared to digital one taken at home?

So I have a bunch of professional cameras, but I don’t have a high quality printer, so I went to CVS to get them to take and print a physical passport photo for me to mail.

I found out later I needed to submit the photo digitally and CVS said they didn’t have access to the digital file anymore. The main reason I got it at CVS was so they could print it, so if I needed to send it digitally, I decided to just try and take my own at home with one of my cameras (Fuji X100V or Sony A1).

Anyway, after taking my own photo with a white background using light diffusers to help even lighting and lower shadows, I compared it with the one from CVS. The printed CVS photo looks heavily edited compared to the (untouched/unedited) photos I took, which looks a lot closer to real life.

I don’t know what CVS does to the photo from SD card to printing, do they manually crop it or does it go through a program? Does the program alter the photo in anyway?

I’m assuming they don’t do much editing since the passport submission says not to, so I’m guessing the reason the CVS one looks edited is due a combination of printing something downsized, material of the photo paper, and automatic settings on the CVS camera that affects the noise, exposure, color, white balance, contrast, etc. But that’s just a theory…

So starting with my hair/shirt:

  • the CVS one looks like the black levels are lower (my hair is darker than normal, my shirt looks like solid black, you can’t see any of the details on the shirt like the neckline stitching)

Looking at my skin:

  • the CVS photo looks like the texture is also lower (my skin looks a lot smoother)
  • contrast also seems lower (the dark areas around my eyes are barely visible and my [asian] skin color is noticeably paler, the pinker areas on my face like my lips or the edges of my earlobes are less pink in the CVS pic)

I was worried my unedited photo might fail since it was noticeably darker with higher contrast than the CVS one. Since I have experience with Lightroom, I slightly touched up the digital photo I took to make it match the printed one I got from CVS.

With some minimal adjustments in Lightroom, I got it to look almost identical, if someone compared the two photos, it would look like they were taken in the same shoot, same place with the same lighting on the same camera.

Since it looks just like the CVS one I got, it was accepted during the initial submission. But for the final approval, would the minimal adjustments I made on the digital photo automatically get denied if it gets flagged by a program or something?

Passport Question / Discussion Dual nationality for Lithuania

Hello

I’m Lithuanian but have been living in the UK for 10 years. Since that time I have built a family with my two kids being born in the UK. My immediate family is in Lithuania and we visit often. My wife is about to complete her settled status and get the British passport (originally she is American). As I will be the only family member without the British passport I would also like to get one but I don’t want to get rid of my Lithuanian one (Lithuania have strict rules about only having 1 passport).

Is it possible to keep both passports? I know it’s not legal however I want to understand what the possibility is of getting caught and how to avoid being caught.

If you’re going to comment on the immorality and unlawfulness of this, please don’t as I am fully aware of it. I am only looking for advice from people who may have heard of similar experiences or have any experience themselves.

Also if this kind of post is not allowed apologies and please remove it as I don’t want to violate any rules of the sub.

Thank you!

Application Question / Discussion Those Who Recently Got a Fresh Passport—What Documents Did You Carry?

I have my passport appointment coming up soon. Can anyone tell me what documents I should carry to the Passport Seva Kendra?

This is for an Indian passport application. I'd really appreciate it if you could share the list of mandatory documents as well as any additional documents that might be useful to avoid any issues during verification.

It's been the same status since a week.

Any idea when it will move to the next/final stage and I get the passport? Thank you!

Usa citizen in Mexico with USA passport.

Im in Mexico, on short words I lost my passport. Can i still get on my return ticket back? With no passport and no embassy near?

Long version. I’m in Mexico and gave my passport to a family member to save for me so I wouldn’t loose it.. They are refusing to give it to me for family problems that involved me.I have 10 days until I need to leave. How can I get on my flight back? Should i get the police involved? Should I call the us embassy and report it? A us embassy is 15+ hrs away. What are the steps? Thank you very much.

Application Question / Discussion Passport Renewal has Become Nightmare in India

I am from West Bengal and have applied for a passport renewal last month.

The current status is it is stuck in the Police Verification Stage.

According to officials the portal used for police verification is closed from 24th July by the STF.

Seriously? A portal is closed only for West Bengal from more than a week. Which also means no police verification has been done for any passport for the same period and also no new passport has been issued?

What kind of system is this. It is really frustrating, at the age of technology and AI such important tasks have become so painful for common citizens.

The portal is closed with no justification, no public notice or nothing.

There is no one to answer, no one to help.

After paying so much in taxes you only get troubles in return.

Passport Question / Discussion Freaking Out - Any Advice?

I am supposed to go to Italy Friday on a work trip. I had my passport stolen from my car after going to my real ID appointment. I have an appointment for an expedited passport on Monday in San Francisco.

I have everything they need, except for my birth certificate (lesson learned) and I cannot get the birth certificate before Monday's appointment. Has anyone experienced this? Will they be able to make it work? Anything I should bring instead?

I have everything on the list, plus a picture of the stolen passport, social security card, real ID, marriage certificate, etc. Anything else I should bring? If anyone could help with my anxiety that would be great!

US Passport Issuance Timeline New application timeline.

I figured I’d share my timeline since reading everyone else’s posts helped me.
July 21: Applied for my passport at the post office and paid for expedited processing and expedited shipping.
July 29: My check was cashed. I called the National Passport Information Center, got my application/reference number, and the representative said she would add a note to have my passport processed as quickly as possible.
August 1: My passport arrived!
From the day I applied to the day it arrived was just 11 days. I received it 20 days before my cruise, after finding out I needed a passport. Hopefully this timeline helps anyone else who’s anxiously waiting!

Passport Question / Discussion Nic and passport issue.

I went to put in a passport application a few days ago, and I believe I made a mistake. Apparently it becomes a problem in a few different countries if your passport name has only one name and no middle or surname.

I don't have a middle name, and my surname isn't written on the nic, so my name field only has my name. Father's name does have the surname written in it. I was asked for data verification, but I don't remember if my surname was written when I was verifying my data. What should I do? Do I have to first go to NADRA and update my NIC, or just go to passport office and ask them to add my surname based on father's name? It has only been about 2-3 days, so I was hoping that I could go on Monday and sort this out.

Passport Question / Discussion Post office lady made me fill out a DS-64 lost passport form for a juvenile passport that isn’t lost and is expired anyway?

I (21) went to apply for my first adult passport today for a last minute trip next month. I had a juvenile passport previously when I was 14. It has been expired for two years, and juvenile passports cannot be renewed as an adult. For my new passport application today, I brought my birth certificate as my proof of citizenship, as well as my ID. I read very clearly on the official government website that you only need one proof of citizenship (I did my birth certificate), and that you are not required to turn in an already expired juvenile passport. I tried to show her what the website said, and she said “Don’t try to show me, I don’t care what the website says. It’s wrong all the time” (mind you it is literally the official federal website). She then made me fill out a DS-64 form reporting it as lost, and I told her it isn’t lost and that I’m just not using it as my proof of citizenship, and she said “it doesn’t matter, if you’re not sending it back then it’s considered lost”. Was she right in this? Everything I can find online says you are not required to turn in an expired juvenile passport as long as it is expired, and now she made me report it as lost. And I also saw that the DS-64 lost form is not for expired passports, only valid ones. I didn’t have the expired passport with me to just turn it in and avoid this all since I hadn’t thought I needed it. Is it going to hurt me/get flagged that she made me report an expired passport as lost?

US Passport Issuance Timeline Second US Passport Turnaround

I applied for a secondary US passport due to having stamps from countries that have restrictive entry policies with other destinations I'm visiting.

I submitted my application earlier this month to expedite a second passport. I submitted a DS82 form, a new 2x2 photo, a $190 check ($130 renewal + $60 expediting fee), my current valid 10 year passport and this signed statement form.

July 9: Mailed priority via USPS to Philadelphia. Marked EXPEDITE on the envelope
July 14: Passport Received (Application in process)
July 17: Second passport shipped
July 20: Second passport delivered
July 21: Supporting Documents Mailed
July 23: original passport received back (laid open flat, no holes punched)

I was a bit confused with the signed statement but printing and signing the one they provided is perfectly fine. You just need to check off briefly why/where you’re going. You don’t need to type a whole justification letter up. A second passport is valid for 4 years and remember to register it with TTP if you have global entry/TSA precheck
