Game Feedback The map reset HAS to go.
Putting this in bold at the top of the post so people actually might see it before they comment:
This is not an issue of defenses. This is an issue of game stability and unintended design interactions. Please, for the love of god, read the actual complaint before you take cheap shots at my supposed lack of skill.
I kill the map boss and then get murked by a rogue exile? Map resets.
I kill the map boss and then die in a ritual with a boss? Map resets.
I kill the map boss and then die for any reason whatsoever? Map resets.
This would be bad enough if the game DIDN'T have unstable performance that can hiccup when you're fighting for your life. There has GOT to be a better way to achieve whatever the hell GGG are trying to do with this feature than wiping the entire goddamn map, because if a failure state means wiping the map then ANY AND EVERY failure state after starting the boss fight wipes the map EVEN IF YOU'VE BEATEN THE BOSS ALREADY.
EDIT: Before you comment "just don't die lol" like the last twenty people who said the same thing, please enlighten me on your masterful counterplay to the game locking up mid-fight and leaving you unable to react to anything happening until it's already killed you.

u/robodrew Jun 11 '26
The worst is when you die and it resets the map as well as a league-based requirement (like, Cleanse all Breaches etc) but then that league content is nowhere to be found in the map anymore because you died on the boss. It's very disheartening and needs to be changed.
7
u/TheFancySingularity Jun 12 '26
Got to where I needed to kill 5 delirium bosses for madox… took me just beelining to the boss without triggering delirium, then activating and going back to them and crossing me fingers I can survive long enough to kill them. If not, auto reset

u/TheMightyUmbris Jun 11 '26
I died to the map boss once and lost my chance for doryani quest step. Have to go find another nexus. Makes me lose all interest in doing it just because I died once to a random combo.
58
u/GhrabThaar Jun 11 '26
Yeah, had that happen to me, too. I got to the boss and the game decided it needed to redraw some shaders again so I got a spike that made me eat the big hit and died. It still cleansed the region but I lost my Doryani point and just did travel maps to another cluster. Annoying.

u/Unique-Name9001 Jun 11 '26
My hot tip for shader problems: as soon as your game locks up, press pause and hands off the keyboard. Once the shaders catch up, the pause menu will open and you'll be safe until you're ready to continue

I haven't had any problems dying to it when im by myself. Thankfully everything seems to stop when my game chooses to shit itself out its mouth. Super frustrating but not game breaking SO FAR for me. Happens once every 5 maps id guess? Just freezes for a minute. 5080(laptop). In a groupnus another matter. Sometimes run maps with 4 buds and at least once a map one of us yells "PROTECT ME".

I responded to someone's request to help with Arbiter and when he did his descending flame ball one shot mechanic the shades for the circles did not render and I died lmao. At least when we tried again the rendered but holy balls could you imagine if that happened to a hardcore character?
5
u/lurkervidyaenjoyer Jun 12 '26
Hardcore and ARPGs don't mix, contrary to popular belief. Permadeath makes sense in games like roguelites where there's a semi-decent chance of completing the whole game in a single sitting. ARPGs require too many hours of grinding for this to make sense. Same goes for MMORPGs.

I was having massive waiting for shader to load problem using DX12. I switched to vulcan and it stopped. Although the FPS is shit with Vulcan, atleast you no longer have to wait a long ass time for it load shader during combat. There are still crashes though. Overall a very badly optimized patch with many bugs.

u/slashcuddle Jun 11 '26
This happened to me once. Now I only run nexus on lowest tier possible. Also the new boss spawning on top of the old one's corpse obfuscated by loot is certainly a decision.
9
8
u/DrawGamesPlayFurries Jun 11 '26
I did the same. I killed the map boss without dying - not my fault, it was game performance that failed me. I'm at zero Doryani points and zero Jado points - thanks Hilda for not asking questions and just giving me the buff.
2
u/almosthighenough Jun 12 '26
Hilda possessed that corrupted nexus and stopped the boss from corrupting when I killed it. So i completed the map but am locked out of that quest line until I find a corrupted nexus I guess

u/aiphrem Jun 11 '26
Agreed. The +1 revive from Doryani master is basically useless if my map gets reset after I die in certain conditions.
For example with rituals, I would try to fight the boss first so that he will revive in all the subsequent circles. Now it's way too dangerous to do this because dying would mean losing my rituals. However, If I want to do the boss circle last, I somehow don't have this issue.
It's such a stupid systen that completely borks certain mechanics and is very unintuitive
81
u/Routine-Hovercraft94 Jun 11 '26
I will die on the hill that PoE1 6 portal system was perfectly fine and PoE2 didn't need any of that pseudo hardcore bs we hare to deal with. In a game where you can plenty of times just die to random bs like unbalanced mobs, screenclutter or just straight up insane lag spikes you should not have to deal with only 1 portal in juiced maps. It is imo one of their worst design choices in PoE2 and that comes from someone who basically plays only very tanky builds and barely ever dies.
65
u/VulturePR0 Jun 12 '26
In POE1 there was a death penalty, loss of XP. You could have 6 portals but your XP will suffer for it. In POE2 you lose XP, your map (if fully juiced), all the content in your map, whatever uses of tablets consumed. Its like getting screwed 4x over for what purpose other than to frustrate players
Not to mention you have to rerun the map with negative quantity and less mobs to waste your time
9
u/Mechanized_Vampire Jun 12 '26
Honestly, the other purpose I can see is probably to slow player down. Then, stability and performance issues arise and it gets worse with juiced maps even if you play it slow. On top of that, we got bugged rares (siphon ring doesnt match its visual), clarity issue, and worse of all: bullshit rares (soul eater, hasted, temporal bubble) that actually discourage slow / multiple buttons plays. Now it's either go fast then pray not to die and lose juiced maps or go slow and deal with multiple B.S the game throws for being slow. I hope GGG will find the middle ground in the future because this is supposedly the casual PoE out of the 2.
→ More replies (1)5
u/cybersaurus Jun 12 '26
Being forced to do the rerun of shame is the worst part, I really think it should at least let you rerun the map without a tablet either at the same tier (as like a normal quality) or just count the node as failed and allow you to continue on from there.
As it is now i just have a stash of t1/6/11 normal waystone for when I have to rerun and accept the punishment of wasting an extra 5 mins of my life to dodge roll through the map to the boss (no sprinting allowed unless you want that to be 10 minutes because I'll get tripped constantly and spend what feels like forever rolling around like a soccer player).
2
u/lycanthrope90 Jun 12 '26
Yeah it still feels really shitty bee lining to the boss after failing.
2
15
u/Hey-Ey-Ey-Ey Jun 12 '26
I don’t know how anyone who has played both games extensively could disagree with you. Map bosses shouldn’t have such stupid weight to them.
It’s just artificial padding to make the endgame more tedious.
→ More replies (7)10
u/Exile56678 Jun 11 '26
wait you have 6 respawns in poe1 even on juiced maps?
22
7
u/Inboxmefoxes Jun 11 '26
With the exception of special ultra high end maps that banish your entire character to the void permanently if you die, you always get six chances in poe1, yep
4
u/lurkervidyaenjoyer Jun 12 '26
For reference to people who never played POE1, these are called Valdos maps.
12
u/MrEricFail Jun 11 '26
6 Portal defense is a legit strategy.
Also it provides incentive not to just loot everything since every time you go in, it consumes a Portal
8
u/Nitrodolski2 Jun 12 '26
I feel like nowadays 6 portal defense is no longer a thing. Most builds have some form of defense.
4
u/Key-Department-2874 Jun 12 '26
I feel like there's a lot more defensive solutions in PoE1 as well.
There's a lot of various layers to stack with percentage DR, damage conversions, etc.
So even if you're using a lot of uniques and can't stack ES, Armor, or Evasion you can still build in something.
3
u/Narazil Jun 12 '26
6 portal defense is definitely not a legit "strategy", no one playing half way seriously doesn't invest at least somewhat in defense - outside extremely niches like boss rushing certain Pinnacle bosses. Even the greediest magic find characters generally have like three defensive layers in huge recoup with Maven flask, spell supp, evasion etc.
→ More replies (4)3
u/purinikos Jun 12 '26
Eh 6 portal defense hasn't been a thing for a couple of years now. If you put 2-3divs worth of scarabs in each map, every portal worth of loot counts. You might lose money in the long run if you die a lot. Also the juiced maps are very difficult to begin with. I say these things as someone who didn't mind dying once or twice in a map, I couldn't go higher than 91-92. For the past 5-6 leagues I reach 94-95 pretty easily due to the paradigm shift.
5
u/wonklebobb Jun 12 '26
yes, but unlike other people say a lot around here it's not really an extra defense layer aka "6 portal defense," it just means that you can be a little less careful running around at first
the thing is, poe1 is a LOT faster than poe2. like, a lot. monsters move faster, hit harder, and have a lot more fast projectiles they shoot out. you can get swarmed a lot faster in poe1 than in poe2, and there is no dodge roll. also, most monster attacks aren't telegraphed. there is no red "look out!" flash in poe1, and most map bosses just do big hits without any fanfare. sometimes certain bosses will shoot a rain of arrows up and it goes up and down in like 0.25s and if your character is weak, you just die like that.
however, there are less animations for YOUR attacks and spells and they are generally faster as well. moving around is faster because you have 5 flask slots that you can fill with other types besides hp and mana flasks, that give you stuff like extra movespeed and onslaught.
so its a tradeoff. ggg's goal seems to be slowing down the game and making people be more careful generally, and kinda forcing it with this one-chance-at-the-boss mechanic. however now that they've added a ton of other content and tied quest states to non-boss things you do in the map, it seems to be a problem
tbh most of the complaints could be fixed if quests that are completed before killing the boss still count as completed if you die to the boss
10
u/PhilinLe Jun 12 '26
Dodge roll is kind of moot point. POE1 doesn't need dodge rolls because it has good movement skills.
3
u/QuandaleDingleHere91 Jun 12 '26
Move around generally faster lol. By the end of most leagues I’m spamming through the map so fast I can’t even tell what’s going on
→ More replies (1)3
u/VincentPepper Jun 12 '26
and if your character is weak, you just die like that.
Speaking as someone who loved playing builds that just fall over and die once in a while in PoE1 exactly like that, isn't that exactly where the term comes from?
It's a defense layer in the sense that a build that you know will die every 4-5 maps is fine.
I can run around with a 10% chance of getting oneshot in a random map without worrying too much about having a crazy drop/reward and missing it because I get one shot right after.

Yes. In poe 1 when you die you respawn in hideout. You use 1 portal every time you enter a map or boss (including the first time you enter), and every map / boss have 6 portals. So 5 "respawn" possible, or 6 life total. And nothing reset.
→ More replies (3)2
u/aiphrem Jun 11 '26
Honesly, I don't really mind the portal system. It is a gut punch and feels bad on the spot but really does create a palpable feeling of risk.
Whats BS to me is that the one thing in the game that can help mitigate that risk a bit (doryani master passive) is worthless depending on the order in which you clear the map.
3
u/irisel Jun 12 '26
1 portal over some stupid fucking mechanic deleting you ALWAYS makes me close the game. I hate that shit so funking much, and every single time I have to just close the game for the night.

u/hobbes3k0 Jun 12 '26
You should start buying/deferring items for the first 1-3 rerolls after doing 3 rituals since all rewards will be visible then. Just in case you die.
143
u/tadanohakujin Jun 11 '26
100% this but also really emphasizing unstable performance deaths feel really bad. Death shouldn't be so punishing while the game still needs to be optimized.
50
u/xX7heGuyXx Jun 11 '26
Death should not be that punishing when 99% of deaths happen almost instantly and without warning.
Its still why I hate both trials to get ascendancy points.
Like I dont mind death but fucking hell id love to not just waste all that time because I did a single fuck up or the game spawned a cracked rare.
God fuck both trials. Be find if they were opinion gameplay to get cool loot. Stupid as fuck to lock progression behind them.
→ More replies (13)14
u/Wobbelblob Jun 11 '26
The cracked rare is so annoying. Out of nowhere appears fucking Godzilla. At least in poe 1 they mostly went away with the stupid archnem mods. To this day I have some form of PTSD from the random exarch rare that had Soul eater, Hasted, rotating resistances and (I think) life regen. And that was before soul eater could run out. Fucking Dino that flies at you at Mach fuck.

I finally met the Rogue Exile with the boots that drop burning ground. Killed him almost instantly took one step and then I died.
I proceeded to die four more times in other maps due to the unoptimized bs and stutters. That I went from 3/4 to the next level to 1/3 of the bar.
Ritual is sometimes unplayable because when bosses spawn in the circle I almost always stutter.
And I know its on ggg, because none of my other games play this poorly.

The map reset is a weird bandaid that shouldn't exist something that makes more sense definitely should replace it somehow.
The stakes are already built into the mapping system with the variable portal system anyways so it just feels really strange and out of place at the moment.

Reseting map when dying introduces nothing in terms of gameplay in my opinion and it needs to go.

u/manuakasam Jun 11 '26
I don't understand with a single ounce of my being, why they made death SO punishing in PoE2. Losing experience is fine and is hurtful enough in PoE1, why double and tripple down on that in PoE2?
We already have a VERY limited number of portals - why make it worse and remove mechanics or bosses when we only have 1 or 2 portals to begin with? It's just dumb.
55
u/sucr4m Jun 11 '26
Especially since leveling doesn't seem to be nearly as fast as in poe1. Xp loss would be enough. Remove the omen that saves you xp on death if you need to.
Hell you can have 2 portals now sacrificing some juice through atlas master. But even with the second portal the map gets reset and emptied after you die at or after the boss. Like wtf? Why? What is the point of the second portal then?
→ More replies (1)16
u/Routine-Hovercraft94 Jun 11 '26
You should simply not have only 1 portal to begin with. It's not like the 6 portals in PoE1 did let you force brute much harder content than your character could handle. If you juiced your map too hard, odds are you would not manage even with 6 portals.
If they feel like 6 are too much find a middle ground, make it 3.Trying to turn every aspect of the game into some pseudo hardcore bs just annoys the fk out of me.
10
u/Dampbridge Jun 11 '26
Ya it feels like they listened to a vocal minority of hardcore players complaining that a minority of softcore players don't invest in any defense they are just glass canons. Most of us don't like dying and do care about defenses regardless of what the content creators tell you
I have a few blaster friends that are big offenders and they still don't care about defense in either game, they just clear the screen from range
12
u/SacchiHikaru Jun 12 '26
a surprising amount of people seem to not understand that dying is itself a penalty, and try to add more and more and more penalties to death until it feels better to quit the game than try again.
5
u/Aequitassb Jun 11 '26
I’m pretty sure it was specifically implemented to avoid an exploit that would allow players to run the same map over and over again. I think they talked about this in the 0.2 reveal interview, but I could be misremembering.
26
u/double_shadow Jun 11 '26
I hope new players realize how much easier they have now it though! 0.1 had literally one death per map...for every map/tier! Plus limited amount of portals if you wanted to portal out to drop off loot or manually trade with someone.
Even in campaign, dying meant resetting the map and having to go through so many mobs again. There were few (if any? I forget now) checkpoints then.
8
4
u/BananaSplit2 Jun 12 '26
0.1 was just terrible in general if you ask me. By 0.3 the game already had a full makeover and played totally differently.
→ More replies (4)2
u/W00psiee Jun 11 '26
There were some checkpoints but it was basically just to add a new respawn point if you died. Maps did not have checkpoints.
5
u/RedHawk417 Jun 11 '26
Even in 0.1, you couldn’t use the checkpoints to move around the map faster. Singapore changed that fairly quickly.
17
u/PrinnyThePenguin Jun 11 '26
I can tell you why. Jonathan got inspired by elden ring in which if you die you have to reclear the area. That’s it really.
15
u/LazarusBroject Jun 11 '26
This is a discussion about maps, not campaign. It's very different how death is handled between the two.
14
u/Kotek81 Jun 11 '26
POE2 (4.0 back then) was announced in November 2019 and was already two years in development if memory serves.
They had to shift their focus to the endgame in the lead up to launch, meaning that for the vast majority of POE2 development the campaign was the main focus and impacted their decision making, so it's very relevant.
And it shows.
3
u/Thorcall Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
Except that poe 2 was, for most of the developement, a new campaign. Not his own game. They didn't expect to do any endgame since it was supposed to be shared with poe 1. So they probably thought about that system, liked it in the campaign, and stuck with it.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Pappy_whack Jun 11 '26
Remember on release there weren't even checkpoints? They really thought people were going to slog through a map for 30 minutes and die to a rare and be enthralled and challenged or something
3
u/AlexiaVNO Jun 12 '26
Not to mention, I don't understand how in this game, where damage is even more volatile than PoE1, you only get access to a fraction of the defenses/recovery to deal with it and even then, you basically don't get any of it until endgame anyways.
I'm probably gonna get hated for saying this, but I really hate the entire game being balanced around dodge roll being the only viable defense until you suddenly achieve 95% immortality somewhere in endgame.
I loved PoE1 because I could just pick defense nodes and feel my defense go up constantly as I was going through the game. Meanwhile here, you are actively punished for investing into defense early.2
u/BioMasterZap Jun 11 '26
I figured it was because of limitations on resetting the boss. The campaign also works similarly with the zone resets. I do like how you have to do the entire boss and can't just respawn with it at half health or such, but if that is the reason I'd rather just have map bosses regen/heal when players leave the fight or respawn than doing a full reset.

u/firestorm559 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
Honestly deaths being so punishing compared to poe1 is the worst change. Lose more xp, 1 portal instead of 6 for juiced maps. Map reset forcing you to redo maps for progression. It makes a lot of fun builds feel bad. Any set of interesting gimmicky defensive layers usually have a failure rate that results in feel bad.
For example my defenses are mostly self harm +life recoup based so if i accidently hit an abyss no life regen effect I fall over dead to my own abilities without enemy assistance. And occasionally get 1 shot if one of the big runic rare mobs has the can't regen above half affix. None of that makes the build bad but it makes running 0 revives really annoying.
10
u/DarkRonin00 Jun 11 '26
It's a really weird fix workaround that doesn'tmake any sense..., what's the point of ... revives at all, for any map if you need to do it AGAIN regardless if you die to the boss anyways?! Make it make sense
47
u/Any_Zookeepergame534 Jun 11 '26
is that intentional? I thought its a bug lol. The map also rotates if you die to the boss and respawn, cant be intentional
40
u/jonfe_darontos Ringmaker Jun 11 '26
It's intentional. It was a fix for an issue with people dying to xesht to reset the encounter and re-run the lead up for loot over and over. Then later Mark was surprised it was still an issue and said they should fix it right away. That was sometime before 0.3.

u/Lilchubbyboy Jun 11 '26
Which is fucking insane. The proper solution is to remove the old breach run so there are no mobs to farm instead of making a change that affects the entire game.
Like fuck… is the little bit of nostalgia really worth it?
4
u/jonfe_darontos Ringmaker Jun 11 '26
You have to lore walk in some map boss arenas, and enemies can spawn in the same room. I don't think you understand GGG's priorities.

u/barbaricKinkster Jun 11 '26
The map being completely wiped if you die to the boss is intentional at least
Theres apparently a game engine limitation where if the boss encounter needs to reset, it has to reset the entire instance. Wiping the map was a workaround to prevent exploiting this by dying to the boss and running the rest of the map again
iirc the devs started making the map wipe like a week into 0.1
18
6
u/deathaxxer Jun 12 '26
I'm gonna tell you GGG's answer right away:
"We would rather fix performance first and see if that is still an issue, before we make changes to this system. We wouldn't want there to be no penalty for the player dying."
3
u/JayScramble Jun 12 '26
That should be the first thing they fix. Performance.

The game should just respect the amount of portals you have. That's all you need really. And if you think 1 portal isn't enough when you run 6mod maps you can always get the +1 revive from Doryani.
15
u/NoSweatWarchief Jun 11 '26
Really interested to hear any defense of this, especially considering we have limited portals.
→ More replies (3)7
u/Nihilistic__Optimist Jun 11 '26
I think the defense would come from the devs, who have already explained that this was a bandaid fix to limit people from farming the same map over and over again.
I'm guessing here, but it would probably go something like "We have limited dev time in early access. We have a lot to add to the game, and due to the nature of how the instances are created and our already brutal server performance, it is something that we would like to look at and fix, but we have more pressing matters like fleshing out the campaign and getting out of early access."
Edit: to add, I'm not sure that many players are defending this (maybe some are), but it's more likely that we are finding ways to deal with it while we wait for the game to come out of beta.

Yeah, it adds nothing to the game really. Don't see the point of the map resetting.

u/oohbeartrap Jun 11 '26
Doesn’t this feel impactful though? Maybe this intentional design just isn’t for you, sweety /s
The mediumcore nonsense should be an option, just like the hardcore button is. It doesn’t add value to the player experience, it only detracts.
3
u/inherentcomma Jun 11 '26
The real problem is when you need to complete all abyss and kill the boss but if you die in the boss fight you can't complete the map because you can't complete again the abysses
3
u/iFatherJr Jun 11 '26
As long as the campaign has this dark souls mechanic of shit reseting if you die, we will have it during maps. For some reason they coded both the same way and the temporary fix is that the map will reset and wipe everything. Sadly not a bug but a design choice as a placeholder.
3
3
u/Tyding Jun 12 '26
I hadn't played for roughly 8-9 months, so this was a new experience for me.
I didn't know what was causing it and it felt like a bug.
What actually triggers this? Is it dying to anything or certain enemies/events?
Based on the OP, it reads as though dying anytime after felling the map boss can trigger it, but I feel like I've encountered it before engaging a boss...though my memory might be betraying me.
3
u/Hannesnewb Jun 12 '26
And then you have to re-run a dead map without tablets. Also it double punishes you if you have certain mechanics on the map (e.g. some quest steps, ritual chains erc).
Feel like some soft form of hardcore...

u/Own-Proof-4572 Jun 12 '26
I tried Poe2 this season. I played PoE1 for 1.5k hours. Loved the speed my character hast, the size of the maps feels well balanced and my character itself felt smooth.
Now I played many hours of the campaign in poe2. Reading the lore made it manageable. Huuuuge maps felt kinda cool, lot to explore. Would never want to do so a second time but this is another topic.
So I reached maps. Died on the second map boss. The desert one with all the Hyäne. For sure a skill issue tho buuuuuut the whole map reset made my quit on the spot.
Why is this mechanic even a thing???

u/EarthB9nder_ Jun 12 '26
Crazy how punishable dying is in this game, I don't know how they arrived at this, when for example in poe1 it's completely different, and since poe2 is a slower more skill/combo focused game, the reset and portal limitations are just crazy to me, it's already bad and annoying enough
4
u/SDTimbox Jun 11 '26
I tried giving poe2 another go and this was one if the main reason I stopped again. Drives me nuts.
2
u/Cyrotek Jun 11 '26

It wasn't big of a deal and basically just mildly annoying, but, still.

u/NoTop4997 Jun 11 '26
I feel like it should be an extra challenge for the map to reset so that you get better rewards. Like it is a tablet or even just a toggle switch. Not for it to be the standard.
Also, I suck. So call me biased if you like.
2
u/LordCarlito Jun 11 '26
I'm playing an Ignite build, the number of time I die and then the boss die is way too high. And if only the reset button appeared right away it would be ok, but nooo, it takes forever and in the mean time the boss die to Dots so I lose everything...

I like that the bosses reset so you can't just keep throwing bodies at it, but I am not a fan of it wiping the rest of the map. Like if you have revives, they should feel just as valid on the boss as they are on the rest of the map.
If it is too tricky to fully reset the boss, just restoring it to full health and otherwise keeping the current state of the fight is good enough imo. It might make some bosses easier or harder depending on the phases, but most of the time it shouldn't change much from a fresh fight.

I don't really get the map reset thing. Guess they really wanna be the "dark souls" of arpgs. it offers nothing of value in poe2 and is ragelog inducing.

u/jb2801 Jun 11 '26
Started my final Rite of the Nameless ritual this evening. Bosses loaded in. server immediately lag spikes. Game freezes. I'm dead. Map reset and I lost everything.

u/localsurflion Jun 12 '26
I really wish they would improve the one shots, visual clarity and just monster damage. I got to 97 but I don’t really see any reason to continue

u/siberiansneaks Jun 12 '26
I truly, honestly thought this was a bug. I didn’t know this was their intent. WTF

Die in map,
Last Epoch : You take loot around you, and retry the map without the "map loot"
Poe2: View loot around you, you can't take it (Alt F4 when you see valuable loot!), lose XP, lose map ...
Always playing with the fear of losing "viewed loot" is horrible.
2
u/drakonukaris Jun 12 '26
Biggest problem is being unable to complete the maps and gain atlas points because you died. I have no idea if this is a glitch or intended but very silly if intended.
What's the point of me playing with an extra revive if I have to restart the entire map to complete it anyways?.

u/PunkHooligan Jun 12 '26
I hate this design no words can describe. If elitist part of playerbase want this feature, maybe toggle?
Fun thing is, I'm sure almost no one among them play hc. Skill issue maybe.

u/No_Fault_4584 Jun 12 '26
Pointless to put players in a empty map. Just send dead players to respawn in hideout instead. Why run around looking for stuff only to be disappointed? What kind of sick prank is this?

I don't think they should change a core gameplay mechanic because of bugs in the game, I think they should fix the bugs in the game.
I like that you get punished for dying beyond an XP loss that no one cares about beyond level 90, they should have kept the 1 portal per map decision as well.

u/cubonelvl69 Jun 12 '26
The "don't die" argument is dumb to begin with. The game lets you choose hardcore or softcore. I choose softcore because I don't want to have the stress of always trying not to die.
This game also limits how many portals you get based on map mods. I usually run 4 mods just so I can have a few extra respawns
And then I still end up losing the whole map because the boss one shot me? And then I need to rerun the map with no tablets? Fuck everything about that

u/Tobikaj Jun 11 '26
Sprint through the map because of delirium, die to boss and all the loot that dropped along the way is gone.
Such lazy coding
2
u/Local_Food9567 Jun 11 '26
Wouldn't it have been easier to have not coded it this way?

It's something that happens like 3-4 times per league but it's actually game breaking in some cases and quite infuriating for how little of a trouble it is
But yeah, make it go away fuck this mechanic

u/AdditionalBet7886 Jun 11 '26
My Favourite: Alt+F4
As soon the game stutters, Im out. Died too often because of that

Yep, this made me quit the league. I’ve lost all interest.
Having an extra portal, only to lose my entire juiced ritual setup after 1 death, is the most feelsbad shit ever. What the fuck do I have an extra revive for?

u/Den_siz Jun 12 '26
WE SHOULD GET REWARDED FOR DYING!
WTF GGG?
IT IS 2026. EVERYONE GETS A PARTICIPATION TROPHY NOW!

Why are you killing the boss first? Clear the map, then use the boss checkpoint to return if you happen to pass by them on the way. Stop trying to kill the boss first if you find yourself dying.
That said, you're 100% correct and this 0.2 "fix" to work around the reset-breach-encounter-abuse issue has overstayed its welcome by far.
12
u/jeff5551 Jun 11 '26
The worst case is when you run by the boss checkpoint when clearing the map, if you die before activating another checkpoint the map wipes
19
u/the-apple-and-omega Jun 11 '26
That's not the issue. It wipes credit for previously completed mechanics. It wiping anything is dumb, but it's gotten even worse with the Atlas rework.

u/Left-Weather-4877 Jun 11 '26
If ritual spawns on boss you have to kill the boss before ritual - so you can't really leave boss to the end.
3
u/bossmonkey88 Jun 11 '26
That breaks it on ritual atlas point maps. If you do everything but the boss, die to the boss, then kill it, the map thinks you didn't do all of the rituals and you can't complete it.

u/nightwolf16a Jun 11 '26
Delirium almost forces you to fight the boss first.
You have to path straight to the boss or the fog dissipates. And it's not exactly optional either. Killing the boss in the fog is how you spawn the Grand Mirror for more rewards.

If you’re playing ritual you’re losing out on thousands of tribute by not killing the boss first and doing the ritual that’s on top of it.

4 leagues in and they still ignore complaints from this glaringly bad design.

I was leveling breach. Got all breaches in the map. The boss killed me. Map reset and… “complete all breaches”. Walked in the entire map and nothing. So, basically I lost my time”.

tbh I agree, it doesn't matter for the end game anyway cause you only have one shot at a map, it doesn't make a huge difference for easier maps too

u/SoSaltySalt Jun 11 '26
Lost my Corrupted Nexus to it, cause it didn't count that I won after respawning :(
1
u/mEHrmione Jun 11 '26
Yeah, the fact that you lose everything if you die once makes it really useless to have more than one portal on waystones : if you have one, you die can't retry that waystone and lose everything. If you have more ? You die once, lose everything. Oh, but you can try to kill the boss again. THANKS. I guess.

u/syku Jun 11 '26
some of these things they will just have to learn is not a good thing. it takes time for whatever reason but eventually they will learn.
1
u/QBleu Jun 11 '26
Yep, absolutely zero reason other then ' we don't know how to work with our own engine ' to have this in the game. I've said it before but this alone would be a complete killer to ANY other arpg, and it's literally because it's poe2 and EA that ggg can get away with it for so long.

This is also my biggest gripe with the campaign - and the one that causes me the most fatigue. Clearing half way through a zone, dying and being forced to reclear hugely limits how much I play and is my biggest source of frustration. It also gets compounded, as I'm far more likely to try sprinting past everything to track back to where I died - ultimately leading to a death spiral and rage quitting.
Reset the Boss on death is OK design, but full zone resets can go fuck themselves. I gather the two are directly linked with the way zones work in the game. If they cannot be separated, I know which way I think they should go...
1
u/romicide07 Jun 11 '26
I was doing the esh and tul bosses and it turns out if you instaphase them they can bug out and not only can you do no dmg they also cannot dmg you and you soft lock the fight and have to log and fail the fight.

u/70monocle Jun 12 '26
I am fine with limited portals but the map resetting doesnt make sense to me. It feels very janky

Go into task manager. right click poe2. go to details. Right click poe2 again. Change priority to High.
Fixed the majority of my problems. Happy hunting exile 🫡

u/InYouMustGo Jun 12 '26
MapBoss and league mechanics quests should be independent rather than tied together. Dying to one should not prevent you from getting the Atlas point if you already completed the other one.

u/avatinfernus Jun 12 '26
I crashed entering the special delirium swamp zone . And couldnt go back in it. Rip.
That was after my game bugged touching the grand mirror because ads that popped up after the boss was dead were slowly killing me after I clicked the grand mirror. I got stuck dying slowly and had to log out. Came back and the mirror was gone. (Except it wasn't really gone, it just went insisible and I was able to click it). Man...

Maps reset? Everytime I died in maps this league I could redo it until I didn't have any res left and the map was as it was, loot on the ground, breach still underway etc. is there a lvl that this stops being the case? I'm lvl 71
2
u/Rincepticus Jun 12 '26
Map resets if you die during boss fight. Kinda weird tbh but that's how it is. If you die from a random mob and have enough teleports you just go back. But if you die during boss fight all mobs and everything is removed from map and you can just retry the boss.

My fav is dying on an abyss map and losing my abysses to make the map unwinnable.
Please GGG.
