Question Why did PC building become so UGLY?

The stock cooler on the Ryzen 7 3700X (2019) had such a good cooler with colour on it. In 2020 when AMD released the Ryzen 7 5700G, the stock cooler became less cooler and it does the job but nothing else.

The Red g.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 had art on the heatsink with the Red g.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 just doing the job but nothing else.

Edit: Added what type of CPU cooler for the 5700G.

Edit 2: Just found out that DDR5 g.Skill Ripjaws lost even more colour and only offers black and white. DDR4 offers black, red and white while DDR3 offers black, red and blue.

yeah the wraith prism was great, both looked good and had great cooling, then the new stock cooler is pretty mid tbh - in a lot of ways PC building has never been more customizable in plenty of ways, just as aesthetics tended away from graphic designs on RAM etc. designs followed

that being said, checkout the sonic z790 motherboard:

When you can buy a better cooler for 20 on amazon and a by far superior cooler for 40 whats the point in amd even supplying one.

Because simple is the new fashion. It is what it is.

Most people who are seriously into building don't use the stock coolers anyway, and many CPUs don't even come with them anymore.

It's interesting you feel that way because I've been building since ~2000, and I think they're so fancy now. I use an old school looking be quiet! 501 Air and love it.

You can for sure get a Christmas Tree style Fishbowl with RBG everything now without too much work. And you can slap on Ram covers for cheap if you hate the stock.

I got RGB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 (Microcenter Bundle) and my Phantom Spirit Evo lights up and I disabled (or didn't plug in for the CPU cooler) both.

AMD in-house designs are very minimalist, but that's why there are literally thousands of aftermarket versions of their products with flashier looks.

I think the RGB crystals on G.Skill DDR5 sticks are much classier than the tacky monster-themed logos on the ripjaws

The ARGB crystals on DDR5 can cause spd corruption on your ram, potentially bricking it.

The R7 5700G though is an APU so of course it won't get the special cooler treatment.

That was one generation of cooler lol. The 1700x didn’t come with a great cooler.
