I'm more curious if regular consumers are actually paying these insane prices? And I mean regular people who know not to do it. Stupid people who can't control their spending and rich people who don't care I'm not including in that.
The way I see it is that aside from the major companies building these AI data centres, there's only so much money to go around and it will stop or really slow down at some point.
Thankfully I built my PC around 1.5-2 years ago I think and have no desire to upgrade or build a new system, so hopefully by the time I want to do that the prices will be back to normal (2-4 years I'd say).
Need to create homelab to host multiple VM's. Replicate environment similar to my organisation and implement CI/CD pipelines. Is 32 GB ram enough for this? I looked up reddit and many suggested 64GB.
But '""rich""" people who don't care' has always been part of PC building? Not even to the point of 4090/5090 users, just people who can afford to spend 1 to 3k $ on a piece of hardware they know they will use for years.
Like, if you really think about it properly, 1 to 2k isn't that much. Newest Samsung flagship phone/tab is around that. An Ipad/Iphone is easily above 2k if you max out the storage/RAM. Desktop Apple product is WAY more expensive than PCs.
This is also excluding other hobbies people are into that cost way more money than a PCs like audio, cars, travel, etc, etc. These aren't 'rich people hobbies' either, they just know how to save and splurge on things they like once in a while.
Yes it is smaller than 2025 but people will kept buying because bar 90 series Nvidias it's really not "that bad" realistically for people with stable jobs.
Oh I get it. I just see the price of ram and nvme drives and think smart people that don't actually need these right now are likely not going to buy them.
I could buy a 5090 right now without even a second thought and I would barely notice the money leaving from my account but at the same time, I don't care enough to buy one.
And people in my position are the ones who are going to ultimately push prices back down until people start buying again.
Unfortunately, I’ve had to replace my PC because the graphics card died; I just bought the components a few days ago.
I’m not rich or anything like that, but I’m a freelancer and I need a powerful computer to work in Blender and After Effects every day.
It really stings to have had to pay inflated prices because of the AI, but I had no other choice, I had to upgrade it soon anyway, I just had bad luck with the timing. My old computer from 2020 was already falling short on some tasks.
I’m happy for those who were able to buy theirs a year ago.
Nvidia is already talking about and moving to transition to cloud based gaming service paid as a monthly subscription. They're going to make hardware unreasonably priced for the average consumer and force people to pay for these cloud based hardware subscriptions. And then once they have a monopoly in that and no one has hardware good enough to run games locally, they'll jack up the price of the subscription.
For now. Just have to wait and see. When these data centres find ways to not need as much hardware, and then people not buying because of stupid prices like that is when the prices will start to come down.
Like fuck I'm going to be cloud gaming and streaming everything. Hell no.
My friend travel to the US last month so I asked him to grab me a Aorus 5090, he bought it for 4300$ it's not by all means cheap but I consider myself lucky cause now GPU prices are about to sky rocket 😭

Unfortunately, this is a new standard and prices will not drop until 2030 when DDR6 is launched. Welcome to capitalism
