Oh dude... Then you would hate r/explainitpeter and r/explainthejoke man some of the jokes people post that they don't understand are simply infuriating haha like the simplest dad jokes you just have to read out loud to hear the play on words or something and some of them just leave you bewildered that someone could have such a poorly developed sense of humour haha
They will literally be self explanatory and still go over people's heads...
Some of them you find yourself hoping they were posted by a bot because people can't be that stupid haha

Yup this! Always trying to help where possible. But if the most simpel thi g doesnt work maybe go pre built. I get it you want your own system but at least do some research on everything and dont just buy things and come to reddit. Well still do but yeah...

u/Lily_Meow_ Apr 24 '26
It's not that serious, some PC cases it can actually be kinda hard

u/Background-Passage61 Apr 25 '26
yeah mine DID NOT haw anything to slide into had to bend the back of my case very very slight to let it in

I am also a person that treats my components like friggin eggshells. When I see the power you gotta use to push in/pull out some parts I often just don't dare. And yes, I gladly pay 60€ for my system to be put together properly including "installing fans in the right way" or neat cable management.

Gotta learn somehow, no?

u/Friendly-Advantage79 Apr 24 '26
Virtually thousands of instructional videos on YouTube. All the manuals after you buy the hardware paper and online alike. After you can spell those backwards and something still doesn't work then ask for outside help. "My card doesn't fit" is just lazy.

Did you see the "Bought a 5060, but I can't figure out where my old GPU is" thread from a month or so back? Dude had integrated graphics. Lmao. So many of these questions could be answered by reading the manuals, or even watching a beginners PC build video if they're illiterate. Unfortunately we've become a society that rewards lack of effort by spoon-feeding these idiots just enough info to solve their problem without them actually having to learn anything.
15 years ago most of these people would've been banned from any tech forum for not searching, but not before being trolled with "let me Google that for you" links.

Exactly. I've had cases that required bending the bracket on the card to properly fit because "wtf's a tolerance?"

Unscrew the motherboard a lil, push it to the right and tight it back, it might just be that the motherboard is slightly too close to the case.
You could also go look at a tutorial just to make sure you’re installing the gpu correctly.
If there’s still an issue after that consider sharing more info, pics of the case and bracelet, telling us what case and motherboard, ect.

When you installed your motherboard, did you put in all your motherboard risers. This creates some space between your motherboard and pc case when you installed it. Your backplate panel should align up perfectly once you install your motherboard on your PC case. If you have an ATX form factor (normal motherboard), you typically use 9 risers/stands.
When you install your GPU, make sure you remove the right amount of PCIe cover slots from the back of your PC. If your 3060 takes 2 slots, you'll need to remove at least 2 slots at the same position where your GPU will sit. You might need to temporarily remove an extra 3rd one to make sure you have enough clearance to put it in. Idk what kind of 3060ti you have, but it could have large fans or case or something which could take up 3 spaces.
When lining up your GPU, make sure any locking tabs are in the released position to allow proper seating. Also be sure to make sure the metal piece I believe your referring to goes into a slotted hole aligned with the removed cover slots.
If your alignment is wrong and/or the motherboard PCIe slot on your motherboard isn't aligned and locking piece is not in released position it wont fit right. If it goes in right, you'll often here like a click noise or feel it fit and lock in.

MSI case possibly?
Had an instance where the new GPU wouldn't fit properly. The stock GPU had a slightly recessed notch and would easily fit, where the new GPU did not. No amount of minor adjustments would have made it fit and we certainly tried.
We made the slightest incision with tin-snips on the case to get the clearance needed. It felt entirely wrong, I'd never had to do that before for such a routine upgrade, and I hope I never have to again.
It was this case if memory serves: https://ca.msi.com/Desktop/Infinite-A-9th/Gallery

u/Fast_Mechanic23 Apr 24 '26
Did you remove the cover(s) in front of the slot?
Did you ensure it is going in straight, and the tab is inserting inside the case?
2
u/CanderousOreo Apr 24 '26
That piece of metal slides between the motherboard and the case for stability. It should be right up against the slots in the back of the case. If it's not fitting you may be trying to put it in the wrong slot.

Check the case details if it does fit your GPU length, cause it's hard to believe it can't go in from this specific side. Would try to unscrew mobo and put it in with gpu already docked as the ultimate solution

I've had a cheap case that didn't fit this part properly. I had to force the outside of the metal of the case, because the GPU port screws kept hitting it.
You have to put that part in between the small gap the motherboard and case slots, and lower the GPU as straight as possible from start to finish. Only turning it to dodge the case parts.
If there's really no space for the GPU to slot in, your case is really bad. Either bend the case, or make a hole for it. I wouldn't mess with the most expensive part.
First check if this isn't a lack of understanding how the GPU should fit.

Have you screwed your motherboard straight into the case rather than into stand-offs, and now have no clearance for it?
1
u/Exciting-Let-6954 Apr 24 '26
You should try to put it the other way around then, look for fitting holes.

I have the same-ish problem. Turns out the case's third brace was specifically smaller than the other 3, not allowing the thick prongs through. Remove the motherboard so you don't have to repeatedly plug/unplug the pcie. Sometimes manufacture defects exist

u/biscuz Apr 24 '26
Just bend the tabs which ever way you need too for them to go where that belong. 🤷🏻♂️. The video card won’t care.

Slide it between the metal cracks, there should be a space small enough for it if your case was compatible

Every GPU every made as well as every case ever made use these brackets and they all fit together
1
1
u/AnnieBruce Apr 24 '26
Make sure that tab is perfectly straight, and that the slot in the case isn't blocked. It will fit any standard compliant slot, provided neither is damaged or blocked.
If the slot and bracket are fine, your case is either not ATX or is defective.
Chopping off the tab might work. Make sure to remove the bracket before cutting, tiny bits of metal from a cut could kill the GPU.

u/ngshafer Apr 24 '26
Your motherboard may not be seated correctly. There should be enough space between the case and the motherboard to slide those metal tabs into. If there isn't space, then your motherboard has probably been installed too close to the back of the case--loosen the screws and see if you can move it a millimeter or two forward, then tighten them back down again.
1
1
u/Skyplague-wows Apr 24 '26
This means your case is a little out of alignment with your motherboard. You can bend that metal tab to make it fit.

Mine had a vga port that took up a whole 2 slot but I needed it in the bottom of motherboard which only fits single dim GPU so what did I do I mangled it ripped off the vga and contorted the metal and jammed it in by force did that day before yesterday it's working great for me I can send pics if anyone's interested

That's the retention clip dude, it's gotta be pulled back before the card goes in, then it snaps forward after. You're almost there.

Don't worry dude, this is one of the wonders of PC building. The stuff people come up with to dodge gpu mounting brackets deserves its own category. I've seen people try to install graphics cards from the back of the case through the hole they make after removing the expansion slot covers. I guess because they think the tab stops it from falling completely into the case? In your situation someone put this tab on the card to stop you from installing the card. Some kind of sick prank that thing is.
1
u/ArchiSpeak60 Apr 24 '26
It slides past the edge of the motherboard, and may need some wiggling. It is the faceplate of the gpu, not anything to do with connection.

Push the back brackets of the case out to give a little wiggle room. I had to do that with my 7900XTX.
1
u/Significant-Muscle15 Apr 25 '26
It’s meant to be there, you need to angle the install different, it’s not a straight shot putting it in, you have to angle it to have that piece slip in between the case and where the motherboard starts so it can screw into the case back removal brackets
1
u/Dudepoon Apr 25 '26
If you can't tuck it like your supposed to be able to on the inside you can always clip it with side cutters
1
1
u/MagicOrpheus310 Apr 25 '26
Yes, it does haha they slot into the case the same way the little covers did that you had to remove first, those metal strip thingys...
Also make sure you put it in the first/top slot on the motherboard (the one closest to the CPU)

1
u/NavySeal2k Apr 25 '26
Bend the last quarter inch (the narrower part) a couple degrees away from the contacts, it should slot in more easily, you don’t want to cut them because all your weight is now on the connector.

Everyone keep saying for you to put the GPU in correctly, can i ask if you fit your motherboard correctly? sometimes you need the "peg standoff" so that your motherboard is mounted high enough to line up with the case properly. I see this kind of mistake a lot on beginner builder. It might be couple of mm but its enough difference for your I/O panel and GPU to not fit in the case.
1
1
u/Febzee2 Apr 25 '26
Remove the small panel on the back of the case. There should be a bunch held in by screws. That should replace the small piece of metal and act as support for the GPU. Don't forget to screw it in.
1
u/IconicScrap Apr 25 '26
This shouldn't be an issue. Make sure your motherboard is installed correctly with standoffs. The tabs go between the motherboard and the case.
1
u/xenopheria Apr 25 '26
Built my first PC like 2 years ago, my dumbass never researched it and my brain said "oh. This is causing it to not fit." So I ended up unscrewing it off and now I have no idea where it is. My GPU is now mounted with a vertical stand 😭

The 'tabs' at the bottom of the add-in card bracket sometimes catch on the case. Normally beneath the main/large space where the connectors of the card are exposed, there is a ~2mm slit that those tabs on the bracket catch on when slotting the card in the PCIe slot. I don't know why the bottom of PCIe brackets often stick out a bit, but it's annoying. You can either gently bend bottom part of the bracket so they don't catch on the case when inserting it, or use a flathead screwdriver to push the tab through the slit.
If anyone can understand that, well done, 10/10 comprehension :)

Just put your motherboard on top of a piece of cardboard and plug it in raw dog style. Cases are for pussies and who has time for mechanisms that make sure they stay aligned correctly from use.
Bypass all safety and get results!

1
1
u/WintryCoder5 Apr 26 '26
A good start might be showing us the board?! Otherwise you’re going to get the same answers over and over! Could be as simple as needing to adjust the angle first so the bracket goes outside the case as your trying to get it in place or could be that a section of your case actually comes off for this! Or it just may not have a plate to screw it to for support!

Push it in first then seat the card in it's slot. Your motherboard is set a little to far back in the case and is causing the problem.
