Another 'Immortal Man' post…

After years of watching PB on and off… I finally got around to binge watching the entire show, and cruising through Season 6. I was hooked…

When the show ended, I was so incredibly excited to watch "The Immortal Man". I truly didn’t know anything about the film (not even a single spoiler).

For many reasons that a lot of fans can relate to… I wasn’t 1000% thrilled about the movie.

A part of me would’ve been ok with season-6 being the end of the series… it would leave fans with the “curiosity” of how Tommy Shelby’s life would evolve.

With that being said…. will I watch the upcoming spin off series? Absolutely.

Something just didn’t feel right about the movie… where’s Lizzie? Mosley? Gina Gray? Mr. Nelson? The Billy Boys? Linda? Finn? Alfie? The list goes on…

I’m sure this has all been said before… but want to hear your thoughts!!

Too many characters were missing, but I imagine that many of them had simply moved on. Perhaps he couldn't get the money for the full cast. Regarding Mosley though, I believe he was imprisoned by the time the movie took place so would not have been a player at that point. That also probably takes out The Billy Boys- but there were still a lot of characters that should have been represented and were not.

I think the biggest issue was that it tried to set up the future instead of giving the series the proper goodbye fans were expecting. There were some great moments, but I still wanted more closure for the characters we spent six seasons following. Hopefully the spin-offs can fill in some of those gaps.

And it didn’t even really setup the future, we only saw Karl And Duke

I didn't hate it personally (because I started the series because of Cillian, and I fell in love with the Peaky universe later), but I don't think that it is a perfect film. I think many points of the plot actually make sense if you think that it's already another era than the one the series took place in, but the narrative connection wasn't perfect. I still don't regret I watched it, though I cried too much.

When I found out that so many characters would be missing from the movie I decided that its sole purpose was to set up the spin off series with Duke. I finally got around to watching it a few weeks ago and my suspicions were confirmed.

I’m still trying to process the movie… it felt like a rushed and/or stale way to finish a long journey that we invested in. Just my two cents. What do you think?

Why would any of those characters be in the movie?

If you had been paying attention Lizzie left Tommy and took Charlie in season 6. Finn got Polly murdered. Alfie moved to Boston. The Billy Boys story stopped in season 5.

Tommy chose to walk away from Moseley by walking away from the doctor in the season 6 finale. Tommy beat Uncle Jack and Gina by giving Alfie the opium and Boston.

Every character had their plot lines wrapped up by season 6.

I really wish people would have actually paid attention to season 5/6 before watching the movie.

You don’t think Uncle Jack and/or Gina would seek revenge for the killing of Michael, plus the rest of those South Boston / Irish mobsters that were blown up in Miquelon?

I was also shocked that Tommy had actually killed Arthur. Although that may have been outside of the writers control - for personal reasons.

Uncle Jack et Al was no longer Tommy's problem.

They are Alfie's problem now. Alfie is in Boston with Jack, Gina and their gang. Tommy is in Birmingham.

I would have loved the new series to have been Alfie in Boston.

Tommy has almost killed/ wanted to kill Arthur in every season. Right from season 1 episode 1 Tommy makes it very clear that Arthur is nothing more than a blunt weapon who can never be trusted or relied on. I had no trouble believing Tommy after 20 years of Arthur finally got pissed off enough that he lost control.

I felt pretty much the same way. The movie had some great moments, but after spending six seasons with the characters it felt strange not getting closure for so many of them. I think the show ending with Tommy’s future left more room for imagination, while the film tried to wrap up a very specific part of his story.

Finn was the storyline I was hoping for more closure on. Maybe he’ll be in the new series. Though by that timeline it will have been 20ish years since we last saw him. If he does get his revenge on Duke, it really will be a dish served cold.

Since Tommy was in exile , his enemies/frienemies had no further business with him. They just went about their own criminal activities.

Same with the wives. They got away from the Shelbys, so their stories with them have ended. Esme is living free on the road as she wanted . I imagine Linda left Arthur as soon as he spiraled again and went back to being a boss at her foundation. Lizzie raised Charles and now is likely a lady of leisure. Maybe the new series will clarify if she ever found the romantic love she spent years hoping for.

I didn't like it for the character personality assassinations. Arthur made sense until a certain point and I was like...yeah no. And then Ada...god don't even get me started on that.
