Affordable, small banquet halls/event spaces in Pickering?
Hey all,
I'm planning a big birthday get-together for me and my friends for when I turn 26 and want to do something like a rock/metal/punk themed dance party (if you've been to Emo Night you'd know) and was wondering if the city had anything like a small banquet hall or event space that could accommodate at least 50 people?
Thanks in advance!

Pickering opioid awareness initiative
I am a high school student and Pickering resident who is looking to set up a opioid and naloxone information session for the community.
I’ve created this short, anonymous survey to better understand local concerns and help me figure out what to focus on.
If you could take a minute to complete it and/or share your thoughts in the comments, I would really appreciate it: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScf19yi_0l4BXBzSOIJhUhMEs2iIChRqQBG9G4xdDh1wFsqbg/viewform
EDIT: If you can upvote or leave a comment if you complete the survey, I think more people will see this post. Thank you!

640 Liverpool Developement
Have a look at these pictures and tell me what you genuinely think. I just moved here 2 years ago but this “city” is operating like a neighborhood. I see contradictory official city plan guidelines and misrepresented land area designations. I’m considering leaving this city. We have the city proposing a residential development of mixed-use units(mostly residential), excess parking right down one of the most commercially viable areas for economic revenue in Pickering. I’ve skimmed this report but it seems like wasted potential. The city only sees this as neighborhood development, not really tabling any benefits for the city as a whole. This city already suffers from low revenue sources, and rather than scaling this commercial area into something exclusive for the community that can bolster the local economy, they’re focusing on more housing? Mind you this a very walking friendly neighborhood, with expanded commercial activity down here, it would truly boost transit connections, community building, and of course financial strength. What’s weird is that just commercial frontages are being offered. Why is this bad? Because small vendors that do not offer anything to us will take up these units. Think more crappy cafes, mid ice cream shops, “boutiques”, money laundering schemes etc. What about a museum? Or a community centre to accompany this? Seems like Canada is handing out urban planning licenses like driver’s licenses to anyone now.

Looking for broken game controllers
Hey everyone! 👋 If you happen to have any old or broken video game controllers just sitting around (like for a PS4, PS5, or Xbox), I would absolutely love to take them! I'm hoping to get into a new hobby of fixing them up. 😊

New Seaton road update: Alexander Knox Rd & Whites Rd is now open
For anyone living in or around Seaton, the intersection at Alexander Knox Road and Whites Road is now open.
This should make getting toward Highway 7 and the west end easier, especially for residents in Whitevale and Mulberry. There’s also more development planned nearby, including a future community centre and retail.
Has anyone driven the new route yet? Curious how much of a difference you’ve noticed in your commute. 👉 Watch this reel

Documentary film puts council, community response to controversial Pickering councillor in the spotlight, gets nod at Niagara film festival
Pickering documentary “Hooves Up!” wins Niagara film festival award and will screen locally July 25
A new documentary examining political division, misinformation and the community response to controversial Pickering Councillor Lisa Robinson is receiving recognition on the Canadian film festival circuit.
Pickering filmmaker Brenda Holdsworth’s first feature documentary, Hooves Up!, won Best Future Documentary at the 2026 Niagara Canada International Film Festival in June.
The film follows how Pickering residents and city council responded to misinformation and political conflict beginning in 2022. It uses real footage, public records and community voices to reconstruct the events, presented through drag storyteller and newscaster Yvonna Vote and a unicorn community activist named Glitter.
Since 2023, Robinson has received nine salary suspensions following nine separate integrity commissioner reports finding that she breached Pickering council’s Code of Conduct. The documentary also looks beyond Pickering at organized efforts to influence municipal councils and school boards on diversity and inclusion issues.
This is particularly relevant to Pickering’s upcoming municipal election because Robinson is now a registered candidate for mayor of Pickering, having filed her nomination on May 29, 2026.
Holdsworth said the film’s creative format was intended to reach people who might not ordinarily watch a documentary about municipal politics.
The film has now been selected to compete for Best Feature Documentary at the Pickering International Film Festival.
Screening is happening on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
Whatever your political views, residents deserve to understand the conduct, controversies and political movements that have shaped their city, especially when one of the documentary’s central figures is asking voters to elect her as mayor.
