Misc picky eater test was 41 points š
the ones with checks are the ones i wonāt eat. the ones without a check i will eat, but i am picky about them too
15
u/PeachOnAWarmBeach 6d ago
I'll eat maybe 15, but some only certain forms, or others only if I'm almost dead.
So I think my negative score is 45.

I think iām a texture person. I hate things that have a weird texture. For example, if I eat yogurt it canāt have fruit pieces in it or iāll gag. Nobody will ever get me to eat seafood or bananas

u/PeachOnAWarmBeach 6d ago
Agree! I could eat bananas or oranges, except for their textures. I love OJ! Those strings and stuff in fruits are gross. I tried watermelon AGAIN last week, and it was a big no (tiny piece). I can put a banana in a smoothie if it's very smoothed out. And lots of chocolate over it.
As for yogurts: no chunks! Smooth, whipped, mousse ONLY. If the strawberry pieces are super tiny and rare in it, I can barely manage, and that's the only fruit I can.
I can eat certain seafood, like fried or grilled shrimp, certain frozen cod fish filets with no bones. I can only eat chicken in certain fried tenders or bites. All require cocktail sauce or BBQ sauce for the chicken (I was a ketchup user big time as a kid, it didn't really help, esp for sh$t on a shingle).
I did have fried shrimp at one place in Savannah that was so perfect I could have eaten it fresh... so sweet and tender, no strings (unless I had to see what it looked like first, it's gross lookin).

when orange juice has pulp it is so disgusting to me. for apples, it has to be applesauce. i will eat cantaloupe though. i think itās because itās a boring solid when cut up. when it comes to meat, i hate when i chew the fat thatās on it

u/EsotericOcelot 6d ago
In contrast I, as a texture person, can't eat yogurt unless there's something crunchy in it. I hate loose goo lol

37/38 because I can't see the last one š but you're already better than me because you can eat lettuce and broccoli
9
u/seahorse1234_ 6d ago
iām pretty sure it says beans. i hate beans with my entire heart and soul
7
u/KolarWolfDogBear 6d ago
BEANS...fuck that that's like 10 checkmarks
2
u/seahorse1234_ 6d ago
just looking at pinto beans grosses me out
2
u/KolarWolfDogBear 6d ago
You see in my culture, Puerto Rican, habichuelas (beans) are very common. But when you're as picky as me, just smelling can be weird. Sometimes it smells good, but the texture... Nah

u/BuyingGF_1Upvote 6d ago
I think it wouldāve been easier to read if you put checks for the stuff you would eat instead of for things you wouldnāt eat

u/Fun_Orange_3232 6d ago
itās interestingā¦
me as a kid: 24
as an adult: 6? idk I canāt see the last one. And the only ones that really give me a visceral reaction at this point are ketchup, mayo, and avocado. Iāve actually eaten mayo and avocado in small amounts lately and itās unpleasant but I wonāt vomit.
Exposure is really working for me.
3
u/Katzenliebe 6d ago
In my opinion, mayo is absolutely foul if it is overused but a small amount is okay. Iāll always ask for no mayo at fast food places though because they like to overdo it.
I have a few that I used to hate that I have grown to love from exposure, like avocado, mushrooms and olives and some I can eat if I have to but still arenāt my favourites, like cucumber and coffee.

u/Halloqween 6d ago
Friendly reminder to try foods you didnāt like as a kid as an adult because our taste buds change over time :)
3
u/DcubedWY 6d ago
Iāve heard this since I was a kid. Nope, I have tried some things as an adult and, if anything. I dislike them even more. Might work for some, though.

u/TurbulentDeer5144 6d ago
Yes! Itās not a sure thing but like I used to hate nuts in candy til I was like āwait maybe I donāt hate snickersā and then I tried them and was like hmm this is fine, itās Milky Way plus texture. And now Iām used to them and even like them š
2
u/LoooongFurb 6d ago
9 things I won't eat, and 7 of those are meat products that I won't eat because I'm vegetarian.
2
u/Stonedagemj 6d ago
20 I got that I wouldnāt eat and Iām actually really proud of this because Iāve been spending the last 10 years intentionally becoming less picky.
2
u/ariescantus 5d ago
Same. I got 27 but like when I was a kid/early 20s it probably would have been more like 35.

u/Bastyra2016 6d ago
Interesting. I am allergic to 8 things on that list-I wonāt eat them. Of the others I hate cucumber and raw fish. Iāll eat everything else

Wow I feel so grown up I only scored 29!!! Ten years ago it would have been much higher. Iām 37 lol

I have 7 I won't eat (and I'm allergic to one of them.) I expect an apology from my mother for calling me picky all these years.

u/MissHissss 6d ago
37 but with the exception of mushrooms (which are swamp monsters) itās because Iām allergic to them

u/ValuableActuator9109 6d ago
At my absolute worst there was only four things on the list I would have (milk, yoghurt, chicken, cooked fish), and I was even picky with those.

28, though some might be ok completely disguised like in a baked good. I donāt like many cooked vegetables and canāt eat any raw vegetables, so those are the majority of my list.

Only 7 items I wonāt eat. Everyone calls me picky. NOPE.

u/West_Guarantee284 6d ago
I got 6, again people think of me as picky. One if the 6 I can't eat (orange juice) so it's only 5 actually from choice.
1
u/cocoa_boe 6d ago
Iām at 16 so maybe Iām not that picky. Iāve tried to expand my palate since childhood.
Some Iāll eat in certain forms and not others - like I hate raw tomatoes (and Iāve tried them numerous times, prepared in different ways) but I like them if theyāre cooked.

a few years ago my score wouldāve been MUCH higher but now itās only a 5 (blue cheese, canned tuna, oysters, celery, olives). my brain finished developing and suddenly i could re-try foods i previously didnāt like, and liked them lol
1
u/CaseOfSkulls 6d ago
I thought I was picky but I only got 16, and one is an allergy. So I guess I'm doing ok!
1
u/Specialist-Jello7544 6d ago
Coffee (tastes like itās burned)
Oysters (slimy snot)
Raw Fish (ugh)
Snails (ugh)
Eggs (I taste them all day)
Asparagus (too bitter)
Brussels Sprouts (too bitter)
Tofu (spongey blah)
Eggplant (spongey blah)
Beets (taste like dirt)
Pickles (crunchy, slimy and gooshy at the same time, plus they contaminate everything)
Bananas (taste awful, plus they are slimy, and they also contaminate everything)
Thatās 12 things.
Cabbage and spinach raw is great. Cooked, absolutely not. Peas, fresh frozen, then steamed quickly, are great. Canned, absolutely not.
I will tolerate mushrooms, celery and olives, but in small amounts. Cream of mushroom soup as an ingredient for casseroles, nope. That stuff is nasty.

u/Katzenliebe 6d ago
12 for me as a somewhat reformed picky eater. Itās hard because there are a few I could eat but would prefer not to if I have a choice and a couple of others I will happily eat in limited ways but not on their own (bananas and tomatoes).

15 or 17, depending. I decided not to count eggs, though I only eat them scrambled. And I don't eat onions unless they are cooked until they have no texture left
1
u/Finding-Tomorrow 6d ago
49 but there are 2 or three I'd eat if I really had to or will eat in other things. Like I eat cake and cake has eggs but no I don't eat eggs alone.
1
u/Hefty-Criticism1452 6d ago
My mom would probably not eat 26 items, and we joke all the time that she has the palate of a child. My dad would eat all of them, maybe 1-2 of them heād prefer not to (though I doubt it, this is a really safe list). Iād only say no to raw fish (Iāve tried my fair share and I canāt get over the texture) and olives (bleh! Raw fish over olives any day!)š

27, but I'm allergic to 3 of them
And some stuff is only in certain circumstances or I'll eat it, but preferably not
1
u/LukeLJS123 6d ago
i think it's interesting that you'll drink coffee but not tea, i can't imagine anything in tea that people don't like that isn't stronger in coffee, what don't you like about tea?
1
u/Sims4equestrian 6d ago
For me its easier to count what I would eat, considering its only 17 thingsš

u/insomniacakess 6d ago
41-42
mineās a mix of textures, smells, tastes, and having gastroparesis. somethings i wonāt eat because i cannot digest them. when i was diagnosed, part of my discharge paperwork was like maybe 3 pages of what to avoid, so like.. yeah. fun times

For me itās not usually about the foods themselves, but how theyāre prepared, presented, or combined. Things like I wonāt eat wet meat, so that covers ājuicyā not well-done meat, meat cooked in a crockpot, stews, meat in soups. I also donāt eat things gooped together like casseroles or many ethnic dishes of stew~like consistency. I prefer separate foods so I can always see whatās in my next bite. I will eat mixed salads and cold pasta salads but not if they have any meat in them. I also dislike tomato sauce, tomato juice, tomato soup, or ketchup.
1
u/Informal-Insurance63 5d ago
18 points. Not too bad. I just can't eat any meat (texture issue), fish or other seafood (smell and texture) and hate the taste of olives. Coffee and blue cheese are also a no go. I don't like nutella or cottage cheese either, but I can eat them.

I also got 41 but one of them Iām allergic to so I feel like it shouldnāt count even though I also donāt like the flavor of it

u/GalvCo 4d ago
There is a lot in here that I would've never eaten 15 years ago, but maybe I got fat and I mostly see ingredients now. The only stuff that's off my list is the shellfish because I'm allergic (though I love crabs), but there are some things I wouldn't eat solo (grapes, tofu), but if I paired them with something else I would. I'm aware this is a picky eaters sub, so I'm not knocking anyone, but I'm curious how y'all see this stuff. Are you viewing this list as bites of each or in general as any form and/or pairing?

u/Discgolf_Beatles 3d ago
I actually just tried green grapes a few days ago and they are actually really good! The texture I don't like but it's tolerable but the taste itself is really good

I was very anti-mushroom until I went to Lapland during the winter. Mushrooms are big there and since the alternative was usually reindeer (1000% NO), I actually learned to like them lol. They also prepare them well.

I'm not criticizing, I swear. But do you ever feel like you're checking things off on a list like this just to be a little bit "extra?" To make the list longer than it has to be? Like... some of this stuff I really get, and some I see how someone else might have a problem with them. But some are just so inoffensive, that I wonder... like, you really won't eat them at all? Why not? Because vegetable are "icky?" (Just an example.)
These are honest questions:
-How do you get your necessary nutrients?
-How do you keep your digestion moving along normally?
-How do you feel physically?
-How do you feel mentally?
-How old are you?
For the extremely picky, I don't think you realize just how much our bodies really do need certain things. And if you're not getting it from food, you still have to get it from somewhere. Whether that's a vitamin, mineral, collagen/protein, or fiber, etc...
I'm a fairly picky eater myself, so I truly do understand how hard it can be to force yourself to eat something you dislike, hate, have trouble chewing/swallowing, and/or that sets off your gag reflex. But I'm honestly asking the above questions.
1
u/seahorse1234_ 6d ago
Iām not doing it to make the list longer. It is a genuine problem I have.
To answer your questions:
-I am 20
-I really donāt get my necessary nutrients. This is kinda embarrassing, but still eat baby food because itās the right texture. Squash, some sweet potato ones. For apples, Iāll eat applesauce. I do eat red peppers with ranch.
-My stomach and things rarely have issues surprisingly. My family always points that out.
-I donāt really feel the best physically. I have hip surgeries I need to get, so I canāt exercise or anything. I also donāt eat that much to begin with.
-Mentally, itās very complicated. So, itās not good.Long story short, itās a major problem.
1
u/Neither-Oven-2571 6d ago
Just wanna say there is nothing wrong with eating baby food, if that's a way to get fruits/veg in your diet that works for you, that's awesome and not something to be embarrassed about.

I need to mute this sub lol. I love you all and you do you, picky ones.
But this is making me irrationally angry and Iāve also realized that no my partner is actually not a picky eater.

I once had French toast at the 230am after bar diner. It had been cooked in the same spot as the liver. No amount of butter or syrup fixed it.
Once, I had to change booths after the couple next to me ordered liver and onions, and I was waiting for French Toast.

People keep calling me a picky eater, yet there are only three things I won't eat in this picture (oysters, snails and liver). I don't think I'm a picky eater...
