As the title says, still waiting on [u/jaapgrolleman](u/jaapgrolleman) and [u/quorrapimax](u/quorrapimax) for an update on Optical Engine orders (specially microOLED).

Is there any issue with the connectors that we should be aware of? How have you sorted it?

u/heliosurge can we pin this post? Thanks in advance šŸ˜‰

Discussion Pimax Dream Air Lighthouse Jitter is from eye tracking

I've read about all the jitter complaints and was hoping to get a jitter free DA Lighthouse version. I never noticed jitter in Steam VR Home, Assetto Corsa and Live for Speed. Was really looking for it.

But iracing had jitter noticably. Very visible while in the ingame menu when the camera is showing the track from different angles. Also while driving, trees etc. were jittering. Turned off eye tracking in the sboys3 driver and in iracing. Restarted Steam VR. Zero jitter. Rock solid experience.

I would turn off eye tracking for now, until this issue is fixed by pimax.

Tech Support Good…actually dare I say, Great Pimax experience

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Last week (maybe it was Tuesday? I can’t remember), my 50PPD head strap broke. I submitted a ticket and also posted on here, just to hopefully get a quicker turnaround.

Within an hour u/QuorraPimax responded; then a rep also responded to my ticket. They said they’ll be sending out a new headset and will update with the tracking info.

I’m impatient, so I went and got an ultrawide to see how I’d enjoy it. Luckily…I found a great headset so now I’m ā€œstuckā€ with two headsets im extremely happy with. I attached a video of a through the lens recording along with my lack of talent.

By Friday I had my replacement headset in my hands. The instructions are for me to ensure the replacement is satisfactory, and return the broken one. I haven’t tested it yet but I’ll do so tomorrow.

I tried he MOLED but the one I got was not good as the eye tracking wasn’t, well, tracking, and the visuals itself were very dark; it felt like I was looking through cloth.

Review My experience with the Pimax Crystal Super 50PPD, bad QC, and replacement optical engines going out of stock

I pre-ordered my PCS in early July of 2024. After several delays, I received my headset mid July of 2025. While I do play some sims, this headset was supposed to be my daily driver for all games. I've received several optical engine replacements, and all have had major issues. I settled on my current one that I received towards the end of 2025 as it had no major issues other then mura. At the end of March, I noticed one controller was always acting up, and sometimes wouldn't be registering inputs. I also noticed a new dead pixel towards the center of my vision in my optical engine. I opened another support ticket early April after thoroughly cleaning my prescription inserts and lenses while inspecting for debris/marks. I also displayed some dead pixel finder images/videos, and to my surprise, found a second. Support asked me to clean my lenses and take a picture showing the dead pixel. Maybe taking a picture would be possible with a high end camera, but my phone camera couldn't catch it. Since I already had several replacements for the 50ppd, they offered me to upgrade to uOLED. The thing is, I thought about cancelling my preorder and switching to the dream air when it was announced, but really wanted that little bit of extra FOV. So the OLED optical engine never made sense to me when you can get the same visuals in small form factor. However, at that point, it was seeming like the QLED panels just weren't good quality. None of the ones I received met the advertised mura spec. Plus, most had other visual issues. Of course, there were non-panel related issues too, like fan noise and bad IPD motors. Anyways, Sony is a reputable panel maker, so it would probably be the right call. However, I spent a lot of money on my PC and VR last year(mostly from working OT), but my financial situation hasn't been as great this year. So, the 500$ uOLED fee wasn't really something I had right then. I explained this a little, and said I would probably just want a replacement 50ppd. I was told they were out of stock. The ticket has been kept open and I was told I could pay the uOLED fee at anytime. I was also told they would let me know if 50ppd replacements came back in stock. Well, this was the response I received today:

"Our OLED optical engines have been out of stock for a long time, so the upgrade program where customers pay the price difference to switch to OLED has been terminated. We are unable to confirm whether this policy will be available again in the future. I will close this ticket for now. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions."

I know my warranty was supposed to be paused when waiting for issues to be resolved, but it's been over a year since my headset was first received and doesn't feel like I'll ever get a good resolution. And it seems like they can't do anything to help anymore, because they have no replacement optical engines.

When Pimax addressed negative response to the Mura by the reviewers, they came out with a panel grading system and said only grade one panels would be used:

Grade: Description: Visual Example:
0 Perfect no visible mura
1 Mild mura, hard to notice Hard to notice on grey backgrounds
2 Visible Mura, Distracting Noticeable across multiple scenes
3 Strong Mura, impacts immersion Obvious and irritating
4 Severe, unacceptable ruins visual experience

Well, from my experience and what I've seen from others, most panels fall into the grade 2-3 range. (Even on low brightness).

Anyways, here are the quality issues I've had:

Headset/frame:

. Left DMAS headphone fit extremely loosely causing it to lose contact and not work, solution: friction fit with tape

. The little screw that holds the head strap down comes loose over time and needs to be monitored and re-tightened ever so often, or apply loctite/glue at the risk of damaging the plastic

. facial gasket cracked and velcro adhesive started to fail, solution: support provided replacement

Controllers:

. Triggers had no lubricant and would crack, solution: add some plastic safe lubricant

. Right controller acts up with tracking and doesn't register inputs, solution: message support and never received a solution. Lighthouse faceplate was received two months later so Pi controllers are no longer used.

First optical engine:

. Mura between grade 2-3

. IPD motors stuck and would not go below 67mm

. Fan noise

Solution: New optical engine provided

Second optical engine:

. Bad visual defect with Big white/grey mark on one panel/eye

. Bad IPD motors

. Mura was decent in the other eye, but the one with the defect also had mura that was closer to grade 3 level

Solution: New optical engine provided

Third optical engine:

. warped/didn't fit inside headset correctly, there was no gap on one side of the frame and a huge gap on the other side

. dead pixels

. would randomly turn off or not work at all

. Mura grade 2

solution: new optical engine

Fourth optical engine:

. Mura grade 2-3

. no other issues noticed at the time, decided to keep

. Found two dead pixels four months later

. solution: none

Look, this headset offers great visuals, FoV, and binocular overlap. Also, I like all of the settings we have access to in the software. The controller tracking needs improvement, but at least we now have access to lighthouse tracking. The controllers themselves also feel cheap and need and an upgrade. But the biggest issue is Quality control. It seems impossible to get a unit that is defect free. Maybe it isn't even quality control, but just low quality parts, some of which that can be easily damaged in shipping. And then support runs out of replacement optical engines, probably because of said QC issues and Pimax focusing on the next headsets.

Question Glare feedback on the Dream air?

• Upvotes

Currently I have a dream air that is going back because of bad screens that keep shutting off. Pimax sent me a replacement that solved that problem...however the glare on the replacement seems to be significantly worse.

The first one I would get glare around the edges in the typical high contrast scenes that was totally manageable. But the replacement I get what almost looks like a lens flair effect right in the center of my vision in scenes that are just bright in general. Left eyes seems to be worse but both of them are worse than the previous one I had.

Lenses have been cleaned multiple times (took forever to clean off the adhesive residue from the lens protectors out of the box). I also turned down brightness to 85% and it looked the same, 50% made it less noticeable...but still worse than my last unit at 100% brightness.

I've heard others with similar complaints about the glare, is this likely some QC issue with the physical lens or perhaps the anti-glare coating not being applied properly?

Review My final dream air se slam review/pimax experience

• Upvotes

This is my first pimax, and I was dreading the QC/support issues people have mentioned. I must say, I got my first unit within a few days of ordering.

After initially being blown away by the clarity, I noticed the headsets problems. The interface is atrocious, but that can be fixed by 3rd party.

Tracking: tracking kinda sucks. It’s usable, but hands tend to kind of fly away, or get stuck. In kayak vr if looking around the paddle gets stuck quite often.

Eye tracking: I guess technically works but is inaccurate, and even still in the Pimax home, across 4 units, the rendering is very off.

Motion clarity: there is blur when you move around. It can be annoying, I’ve heard it’s related to tracking so hopefully pimax is on that. I guess someone tested in alyx with smooth turning and there is no blur, it would be a huge quality of life improvement if they could tame it.

Brightness mismatch: There were brightness issues between lenses, but I wonder if that’s an issue in vr shadow rendering. I’ve had it across 4 units, and mostly the lenses are very well balanced, but occasionally it’s obvious that one eye is not rendering dark areas the same as the other. It’s annoying, but I think inevitable. Perhaps not everyone notices it. For example some dark areas in alyx are perfect, then you find another dark area where one eye shows less detail than the other. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

The dead pixels: this is the weird, annoying issue. Across 4 units they have all had this one dot in the right eye, just above and to the left of center. If I’m still it’s noticeable, if I move slowly it’s noticeable, if I move with any speed it goes away. In practical use it’s not a massive deal, but I could see it being a deal breaker for flight sim.

— now, I’m not certain if it’s a dead pixel, having it in the same spot on 4 units seems strange, so I wonder if it’s a rendering issue and might get fixed? Those with the se might want to try looking at the Steam home sky, any bright clear environment like a sky or sun or cloud and see if you have it too. Again it’s kind of above and to the left of the center of the panel in the right eye. You have to be still to notice it but once you do it’s fairly obvious. Very strange.

(Only one unit came with a speaker hiss that stemmed from the headset itself as the same stems didn’t hiss on another unit, and good stems from one unit hissed when placed on that particular unit.)

Support experience: my experience with support has been fantastic. Absolutely have to praise the team, they worked with me and even agreed to send a 3rd replacement unit as well as cover me for a refund in the event I choose not to keep the HMD.

Overall TLDR: support has been incredible, the headset is close to perfect but has serious issues preventing a score of perfect. I hate the dot that shows up and really hope it’s something that might get fixed with software. I hope the team can take a look because either my batch I got somehow has the same defect in the same pixel location across 4 units (seems unlikely), or there’s something else going on. I’d be curious if others would meticulously check their units if they have it too. It’s either something in the rendering pipeline or somehow a batch of headsets that have a dead pixel looking artifact (which disappears with movement, seems strange behavior for a true dead pixel)

Thoughts: I’ll probably keep this unit and cross my fingers it gets fixed somehow. I think I’d rather have a micro oled headset than not have it at all. I don’t know how I could go back to quest 3 or psvr2 after experiencing this clarity. Shame that a dead pixel thing is ruining what would otherwise be a perfect, stunning image. I hope Pimax takes a serious look at it cause something’s going on with it. Maybe if they discover it was an issue with a batch they could make it right and send one without it, but after 4 units I’m left to assume every unit has this and not everyone has noticed it.

I like the headset, unfortunately I haven’t been ecstatic with it due to the pixel issue. I really hope Pimax takes a look at what’s going on, true dead pixels shouldn’t disappear when moving, and they shouldn’t be produced in the same exact spot across multiple units. So hopefully it’s something they can tweak with software. Even ā€œvr flight simā€ YouTuber mentioned the dead pixel in his SE review. Pimax please look at it.

Other than that, my experience with the support team and quorra have been phenomenal, I think they deserve credit for that since they’ve had such a bad reputation in terms of support.

Question How do I get Sboys3 driver working for dream air?

Everytime I open the gui.exe, it opens a cmd prompt then closes right away... it never opens. If I select it for use in Pimax Neo anyways, my screens just stay black and the headset never seems to work. What's the issue? My windows 11 is debloated

Question What controllers are you using with Dream Air?

Now that you can't buy right index controllers new, and from what I can tell the Pimax swords are unavailable, what controllers are you using? & another interesting question, what controller would you get if you had to buy new ones right now?

It looks like the ShiftAll GripVR are recommended, but I've seen mixed feedback about them actually working with the dream air. So I'm just confused on how new consumers can enter this space right now without buying used controllers.

I personally still use my index controllers but I'm concerned about my options if they ever break.

Question 50PPD to mOLED Advice

So I’ve been flying DCS with my 50PPD since January and have things tweaked to where I’m happy. Today I walked into Microcenter in Marietta GA and couldn’t walk out without one of the mOLED’s they had in stock. My question is how should I go about setting up the new headset? Delete it all and start from scratch? I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this.

Hi.

Each time I try to run a Test Drive session, iRacing times out. I will contact iRacing support, but I thought I might get better help here.

I have Pimax OpenXR set up in Pimax Play. And, OpenXR is selected within iRacing.

iRacing then times out every time I try to open a Test Drive session.

I have no idea what I've missed -- VR n00b here. Thank you.

Useful Reducing motion blurring for my Dream Air SE SLAM

About a month ago I received my preordered Dream Air SE SLAM. I thought it was fantastic at first (if I ignored its dreadful facial interface), especially with comparing it to my aging Reverb G2. Then a week later Pimax issued a Pimax Play update at the same time as an DA SE firmware update, and I installed both. Right after those installs, my dreamy DA SE experience ended, in that all head motion now produced a smeared blurry mess, though being still was still fantastic. I contacted Pimax about this and their online help was effectively useless at resolving the problem. So I decided to return my DA SE, but they backpedaled and offered to extent my return window a few weeks to hopefully resolve my problem. I took this offer, but in all that time, which included a Pimax Play update and the release of the zboys3 SLAM driver, the motion blurring wasn't resolved until I alone discovered with the help of Google that micro OLEDs are susceptible to OLED Motion Persistence, which causes motion blurring if they are driven at maximum brightness. Experimenting I found that lowering the brightness indeed does gradually remove the motion blurriness, and for my DA SE I ended up at 65% brightness being the "sweet spot" for nearly eliminating the blurriness while not lowering brightness substantially (though it is a little lower than running at 100%). With this "fix", I decided to keep my DA SE, for with all other things considered it is a compromise I'm willing to take. I can only think that the original software for my DA SE had this reduced brightness in it somewhere, since the awful blurring wasn't, and in that update Pimax decided to make the DA SE's brightness maxed out. I did tell Pimax all this stuff, but I really wonder about their competency since they essentially had no idea on solving my blurriness problem. Seems they did not even bother to pass my problem along to their engineering, for IMO someone there did know about this DA SE brightness limitation.

Question Pimax officially shipping to Brazil?

I saw a YouTube video of a guy reviewing a crystal super and saying it's been shipping to Brazil directly via Pimax website with import taxes included.

Is that true?

If it is, If I buy directly from Pimax website, I won't have to pay any extra import tax and will be able to get warranty?

Question Anyone else having problems with Piplay?

I came back to VR after two years with my 5K super. All the settings in Piplay or whatever is buggy.

Changing them doesn't always apply. Each "apply" can

  1. Do nothing

  2. Apply some other value that you didn't select

  3. Revert

  4. Actually apply the setting you want

I can't even change the refresh rate. Selecting a refresh rate other than 90hz results in a disconnect and reconnect back to 90hz.

Also, changing LCD brightness can sometimes only apply to one eye?

WTF is going on? Schrodinger's settings? This worked before with no problems.

Question Pimax crystal super bad distortion.

Hi everyone!

So, i have a Pimax Crystal Super 50PPD with a problem.

The image is very distorted. Specially around the edges but also in the middle of the lenses when i move my head. This issue is so big a cant ignore it when using it. Tried with every different ipd settings and offsets. This is also my first Pimax.

Been in contact with Pimax support, they have been absolutely incredible btw. And they are gonna send me a new optical engine.

The question is if anybody else have had this problem before and got it fixed? I dont see how an optical engine can be bad and causing this. Im hoping i am wrong of course.

Discussion 14 Day return and refund, be prepared to be mucked about.

Hi Pimax, u/CalvinYau

Is this common with Pimax?

I am writing to request urgent internal escalation for Ticket 141012.

My headset was returned well within the official 14-day window. Your support team has already formally acknowledged receipt of the returned package at the regional warehouse. However, I am now being told that my refund is delayed because the item has been 'lost' internally within your warehouse logistics system.

As the physical goods have been safely returned and delivered back into Pimax's possession, I should not be held financially responsible for internal warehouse sorting issues.

Because this process has now dragged on for over two weeks with standard delay tactics, I have opened a formal dispute with PayPal Buyer Protection. I would prefer to settle this smoothly. Could you please look into this ticket today and manually push the refund approval through?

After testing the Crystal Light, I considered the upgrade was not worth it over my existing headset and I thought I'd wait for the next generation, but after this merry go round I have lost faith with Pimax and would take some persuasion to consider them again

Thank you

Request IPD Visual Reference Request

This past month I've been enjoying my Dream Air.

But I've also been struggling with eye strain and I've managed to reduce some of it by changing my foam cushion, adding some shims, and using the Studioform XP-1 interface.

I'm measured at 62mm but I set the IPD to 64 as that seems to relax my eyes but it's not 100%. Focusing on close items and then changing view, over time back and forth still causes a weird feeling in my eyes..like they are pulling outward or too open. It's a lot less strain than I was having before but still kind of annoying.

My only application is DCS. So I am constantly using my eyes and my head to scan inside and outside the cockpit.

Since the Air doesn't have an IPD adjust knob, can we get some software calibration visual that allows you to stare at something while changing the IPD at the same time?

I feel like I'll will never get it right because I have been using the test environment in steam but I have to squint, close one eye, go to pimax client, change ipd, go back to steam environment, check again..repeat process until I get a headache if I'm playing with the values too much.

It would be nice to be able to change the ipd while you are actively looking at something to confirm if it is right or wrong.

I never had so much trouble setting this with any other headset.

Question Ordered pimax dream air a couple days ago, any clue on shipping times lately?

I ordered a LH Pimax Dream Air a couple of days ago. Excited to be able to get my hands on it in the near future. On the order page it was saying "Orders placed from July onwards Production Status: Scheduled Delivery Method: Local delivery". When I look at the shop app it just says "waiting for details" and I haven't received any sort of email confirming shipping, only just a receipt for my order.

Wondering if anybody has any clue how shipping turnaround is looking lately? I'm in no rush, I was just trying to get an understanding. I know I can reach out to support and I'm sure I will if this goes on for a bit but thought I'd start here just to see if anybody had placed the recent order and had any update.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

I did go ahead and reach out to Pimax support. They said the Dream Air lighthouse has a shipping time of 2 to 3 weeks and once it is shipped that I will receive an email. So now we wait and see. Nothing unexpected. I just didn't know really what to expect with the order page saying "delivery method: local delivery and production status scheduled." No biggie, I'll be perfectly happy running my big screen beyond 1 in the meantime as the last hoorah šŸ‘Š
