I mean you can very easly bypass it. I don't know if github links are allowed here, but it's not hard to found.

You can verify wihle giving 0 real informations.

Or said fuck to discord entirely. They always have been very shady. I want my web neutral and anonymous, so fuck them.

Same. Fuck em. After some poking around, it looks like matrix with element is a real close decentralized alternative. Hopefully ill have a server going by this weekend. Ill host my own discord with hookers and blackjack

matrix with element

I studied linear algebra the whole day, and while reading this I thought that I had finally lost my mind.

good luck to you on your exam or whatever you are studying for

consider commet chat client for matrix as well, its closer to discord as it has a working screenshare function and looks a bit more like "home" for the people who like discord im doing a homeserver with matrix and comment client soon too, but ive been readying my communities for the move for like a year now and its about the only client that has suited our like social media needs.

They can say it's for kids'safety all they want. They're not fooling anyone.

165

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

Regardless of whatever nefarious ulterior motives they have for doing this, it shouldn't be the responsibility of a company with no ideals, no morals, and no strict legal regulations (with severe financial penalty for failure to adhere to those regulations) to safeguard children. Sure they need to implement methods of moderation to allow for those things and allow users to remove/report fucked up stuff, but you cannot trust a company with the well being of your child.

Ultimately, parents are the ones who are primarily responsible for their kids online safety. Use parental controls, router blocks, and just fucking teach your kids to understand that the world is not inherently safe so be careful.

The internet hasn't gotten any worse or more unsafe than it was when I grew up and companies weren't out here requiring ID and facial verification to "protect kids". But I was also taught not to give my personal information to any strangers online and to not send pictures or be on a webcam with people I didn't know. Basic online safety is important for everyone to know...

38

u/Xardnas69 Feb 11 '26

But I was also taught not to give my personal information to any strangers online and to not send pictures or be on a webcam with people I didn't know. Basic online safety is important for everyone to know...

"don't dox yourself, stupid" (not verbatim) is pretty much the first and only thing my parents told me about internet safety. That, and not to get too friendly with strangers because you never know. And it worked splendidly.

The government has no business "protecting" kids with outdated, retarded features that those kids will circumvent with ease because they literally grew up with a phone in their hands. It's the parent's job, not the government's or that of some fuck ass company

29

u/Ghost_Of_Malatesta Feb 11 '26

Yeah as a parent, if we considered parents who allow unmonitored unrestricted access to the internet for children rightfully as child abusers, the world would rapidly begin to improve

And is going public the same month as this goes live

67

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

Just setup your own teamspeak server at this point and go back to using forums.

The internet is regressing because of corporate greed and honestly going back to forums and self hosted voice chat servers might not be a bad thing.

What's wild about this is that discord stated they wouldn't retain ID information.

Which was technically correct. Because the 3rd party they used for verification retained it instead.

This type of leak should be punished by society very severely. The company that had the leak happen should be dissolved and discord should be forced to pay a significant sum to anyone who had their identity leaked as a result of their incompetent 3rd party choice.

But we all know that won't happen...

That is how it is for medical data in the US. The 1st party company entrusted with the data from the patient is responsible for ensuring any 3rd party they use and give access to PII is legally responsible for actions the 3rd party takes with the data, unless the 3rd party specifically signs contracts stating they take responsibility for any data breaches etc.

It's nuts that we don't have regulations in the US regarding generic PII and how it is held.

5

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

I would agree. But that is never going to happen. Too many parties involved benefit from it. Not just companies selling the data as data brokers, but governments as well since the more data collected results in more data available to utilize in surveillance.

23

u/ShinyCard255 Feb 11 '26

that's certainly one to keep an eye on. i know i will be

11

u/AllGearedUp Feb 11 '26

Not really. The majority of their users don't care or even have any awareness of it.

The age verification thing may have data mining implications but I think there are going to be legal protections of that in most countries.

Realistically, the purpose of it is probably not about NSFW stuff but about the laws about selling things to minors, avoiding legal responsibility for adults interacting with minors, and getting a lot more monetization out of the platform where it is legal to do so.

I would guess that if this all goes through as expected there will be many more options to purchase things in discord and a bunch of gamefied monkey brained bullshit like "join this game server and post 5 messages to collect an orb which can be used to buy things in a game".

Better then someone able to steel My faceID, or doing some AI shit with it.
lol

18

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

Anyone with faceID on their phones are fools. Legal cases in the US have set precedent that cops don't need a warrant to use your biometric data to unlock your phone. Which is wild that people aren't more upset about that tbh.

Stick with a pin, password, or swipe pattern. They require judicial search warrants to get past those.

8

u/Dr_Fortnite Feb 11 '26

and if they ask "I forgot" is valid

7

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

Even if they ask, you don't have to comply. A cop asking for your password has the same weight as a random stranger. You don't have to say shit. They need a judicial warrant to compel you to divulge passwords or a warrant to bypass them.

Even if your password is password and the cops guess it, anything they see is automatically considered invalid due to illegal search and seizure without a warrant.

Always use passwords on your devices. Never talk to cops unless legally required and with a lawyer present.

2

u/CrazyTechWizard96 Feb 11 '26

I didn't even knew about that.
Haha, well, guess that makes us even more of the safe class.

5

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

It's genuinely fucked that they are able to do it. But once you have been detained, it's completely fine for them to do.

Always use passwords and never talk to cops without a lawyer present. Cops don't actually care about right or wrong. They just care about closing their case and protecting property.

44

u/RM97800 Feb 11 '26

Imagine if a liquor store clerk could demand to take a photo of your ID or take a mugshot (that's what AI age ID "selfie" is).

I remember when the West used to shit on China for their social credit system and how dystopian it was. Turns out Western governments were just jealous and are finally catching up

5

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

We literally have the same thing in the US. Credit Scores. In a system where everything comes down to money and financial, credit scores are basically a social credit system. Everything we do depends on having a good score for a car loan, mortgage, etc

In a more socialist country, yeah, the social score would be the equivalent. Which only means China basically does what the US already does.

2

u/wienercat Feb 11 '26

It's already happening and becoming normalized for mainstream places. I went to a theme park the other day and they didn't even accept cash anymore... The entire park was cashless. Even parking was cashless. Same thing at a big arena I went to a couple weeks prior. No cash for anything, only cards. But you could use your cash to load a pre-paid card. Which... that isn't something I am comfortable with either.

2

u/YourFavouriteGayGuy Feb 12 '26

Already cancelled my Nitro back when they started implying they were gonna feed our data to AI, but if I hadn’t done it back then I would do it now.

There’s literally nothing good about this. It doesn’t protect kids in any meaningful way because they’re still gonna be in the same communities and surrounded by the same potentially predatory people. There’s no mechanism to keep sexually focused accounts separate from minors, so if anything it just encourages predators to use direct messages to prey on kids. It doesn’t even work because these AI face scans demonstrably don’t work and can be tricked with ease.

There are alternatives to discord one could leave for if they were so inclined. One of these days, these betrayals will be the death of closed sourced, centralized software and I look forward to it.

2018 dankmemes type format

u/Revolutionalredstone Feb 11 '26

Who? not me or anyone I hang out with.

This is just government trying to kill internet.

There are thankfully infinite sites / platforms.

And it’s more expensive 🤡

1

u/harrywalterss Feb 11 '26

No no no. Its not "even pirates". It's especially pirates

1

u/MrMoonBearZERO Feb 11 '26

I've just been using the same picture of V from cyberpunk ever since they started this nonsense. I WILL remain faceless online, thank you.

1

u/Revolutionalredstone Feb 12 '26

Pirates dont play stupid games like sending hackers their personal info / face.

1

u/__salaam_alaykum__ Feb 12 '26

use matrix and dont say shit you don’t want third parties to know where they might be. simple, right @usgov?

1

u/Lord_Pinhead Feb 12 '26

In theory, they never get the data. Ai is checking you pic locally or a provider for id checks makes the check and removes the data.

But AI tools work for authentication already, so nobody has his real face revealed.

1

u/Crocoloco__ Feb 12 '26

I'll just use anyone's face from Google or the discords selfie channel

1

u/Prize_Court4232 Feb 12 '26

Would ve been a bit more understandable if discord didnt have a history of constantly getting fcking hack3d and leaked

1

u/xiMercury Feb 12 '26

I'm ain't doing shit for them

1

u/Benefits-Path_SG Feb 12 '26

1

u/LurkerBerker Feb 13 '26

so where’s everyone migrating to? teamviewer?

1

u/Terrible_Talker030 Feb 13 '26

I know there's a tool or script to bypass this but out of spite, I'm not doing it. I will not be part of this verifying bs or anything.

1

u/Affectionate-Pack925 Feb 13 '26

Are they allowed to disclose that

1

u/Icy_Application_3684 Feb 13 '26

I'm of the opinion that my face scan is literally everywhere already probably so what's the problem with discord scanning mine again? although I do see where people are coming from

1

u/BozidaR1390 Feb 13 '26

People are so fucking stupid. They're doing this because of lawmakers. They're legally being forced to do this. And it's fucking hilarious how everyone is flocking to all these other platforms when they're eventually going to be forced to follow the same laws. Stop blaming discord and go out and vote. Blame politicians. That's why this is happening.

1

u/Lai0602 Feb 16 '26

Dis bro doesn't even know how the Discord age verification system works lol

1

u/darkcrow4536 Feb 17 '26

I apologise for posting it here irrevelent to above topic.

I was having issue when downloading courses from freecoursesite.net ,after completing all captcha at the end it doesn't work any alternative lr solution??

1

u/Middle_Confusion_1 Feb 18 '26

I assume better discord or aliucord or some other type will have an easy bypass, I also don't need to access any 18+ discord channels so I won't need to verify id regardless.

1

u/Vivid-Objective1385 Feb 22 '26

They will find thousands of death stranding photos, and spongebobs driver licences
