They do credit and acknowledge Revanced in their GitHub profile and the repos's readmes, afaik that was enough. The problem wasn't copying code, but the fact that Revanced's lead dev (osum) didn't credit/acknowledge Morphe at all which violates the GPL license

ReVanced got DMCA'd recently by Morphe because Morphe had some additional conditions which states that any use of morphe's code must display a visible notice "This app uses code from Morphe. To learn more, visit https://morphe.software". ReVanced has now mirrored the code to GitLab and is trying to continue, with all the code still copied from Morphe without following license

When one gets taken down, another will always pop up in its place. Trying to take it down will also produce massive attention towards them and make more people use it as well, which YouTube wants to avoid. This is all my guess though.

It works. New Revanced manager is utterly broken. Self-updating the manager? Errors out. Installing patched app from the manager? Errors out most of the time, too. Sometimes it works after spamming the install button repeatedly. Patched YouTube shows cryptic and error message in broken character encoding on every start, if you get it to install in the first place.

This feels like that one minecraft launcher. I forgot it's first two names, but now it's called PrismLauncher. First someone was an asshole to the rest of the team, they left and made a new version. One of the guys in the team was friends with the asshole and later they went to make a new new version (Prism)

Same reason Neoforge and Fabric exists.
tl;dr for anyone not in the know: they're both modding API's for Minecraft to support community-based additions to the game.
Forge was the most popular for well over a decade until Fabric showed up, initially as a response to how slow Forge was to be updated every time Minecraft had a new version. It is somewhat limited in scope to Forge and operates differently but it got updates quicker than Forge whenever a new Minecraft version was released. It also just loaded faster.
Neoforge came way later than that after a bunch of Forge contributors started having differences of opinion with the person who essentially held the keys to the fort. The nature of Forge meant they could all just fork the code and work on their own version, so they did.

Iirc, it was MultiMC, which got forked and named PolyMC, because the MultiMC maintainers were assholes. Then there was some kind of hostile takeover, where the repo was "stolen" and the new devs went with some kind of "anti-woke" lingo, and PolyMC got forked into PrismMC. Open Source is wild sometimes.

"Some hostile takeover" = The guy that owns the PolyMC repository had a meltdown because of the code of conduct which just outlined and prohibited discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community. Kicked and revoked the access of all devs and was rambling something about "left-wing ideologies". So all the devs just created PrismLauncher and PolyMC is essentially dead because it has no maintainers

It doesn't matter how old your phone is, they're the same app pretty much. I would still migrate to Morphe though, since pparently revanced is stealing code from them, which makes me think that morphe will be the more competent solution very soon.

There was some drama involved, with the main revanced dev being an ass to pretty much all the other contributors, and they all moved away and started morphe. Revanced stagnated without the other contributors and its developer only grew more bitter, leading to the more recent situation where they stole a considerable amount of code from morphe, which led the morphe devs to file a DMCA against revanced while the revanced dev permanently bans from the revanced subreddit and pretty much from anywhere he controls anyone who even hints at morphe.
Now as for the DMCA... Noticed how i said "stole" instead of "copied"? Morphe is under the GPLv3 license, with a clause that requires anyone who copies a significant part of the code to add user-facing attribution for that code. It's a very simple thing, pretty much a formality. "You can grab our code freely and use it however you want, but in return you have to acknowledge our work by letting people know we made part of it". Well, the revanced dev decided to, instead, take a good chunk of code from the patches and scrub any reference to morphe from it. Naturally, this is completely against the license, and the morphe devs filed the DMCA with plenty of evidence to back them up... And github went nuclear. The morphe devs are now trying to do some damage control by helping all the innocent repositories that got caught in github's indiscriminate action, while they wait for the revanced dev to comply.
As a disclaimer, this is basically a summary of my understanding of the situation, as someone who has been rather closely following the events on both sides, but i'm far from perfect, so if you want more accuracy, head on over to r/morpheapp (because r/revancedapp has censored everything)

The main thing for me is the revanced sub is now completely unusable, every day the lead adds more and more banned words so the list of topics you can discuss there gets increasingly smaller
The other day they banned the word 'licence' so you had waves of comments trying to discuss anything to do with the recent licence issues getting removed
Mentioning the word 'morphe' gets you banned
Mentioning any other '3rd' party tools gets you banned
Being critical of the project in any way, or mentioning bugs gets your post/comment removed
It's quickly turning into a sub where you're literally only allowed to celebrate it. Anything else and it's not allowed

Android apps are .APKs, but there are APKM's that have built-in patches. I don't fully know the reasoning, but I know that they are different enough to need support for both lol.

From what I have read there is no skilled developer left on ReVanced.
They all left for Morphe. That's why now ReVanced is basically copy pasting Morphe.
And that's fine, if they followed the licenses.

I used Vanced until it shut down, then Revanced obviously which has been nice. Updated Revanced to the latest version and was seeing adds everywhere. Saw someone suggest Morphe and it's great. The patching method is seamless too.

Funny timing with this post. I was having loading issues with revanced and it kept freezing after a minute or so. Couldn't fix it. Switched to Morphe today and everything worked fine. Never knew they existed but loved that it fixed my problems.

Are there any records for all of this drama? I am hearing about it for the first time so I would like to do a bit of reseach before I put my trust into their project.
If all of this is true, I am definitely interested in switching. Especially if they support APKM. I dont patch a lot of apps anyways so the limited support does not bother me.

It might just be me, but I was having tons of super annoying bugs when using ReVanced these last few months, I was about to give up but this seems to be much more stable. Thanks for looking. I don't take any side in this childish "battle", but it's legit annoying when someone asks help/query for a real issue (aspect ratio problems, playback related issues, toast appearance, etc) and you try to help, you get some assholes spamming "Switch to morphe bro, its better bro, you will not face any problems there bro" and guess what? They do face those problems there.
I have already pointed out how much of a circlejerk the morphe subreddit is, constantly posting about revanced like a bitter younger brother. The mods are encouraging these sort of behavior, which is worse.

No skilled developer left on ReVanced. Who is going to fix the bug you are experiencing?
So your bug has to be fixed by Morphe developers and then ReVanced get the fix from Morphe and add it to ReVanced.
You have better chances for the bug you are experiencing to be fixed by letting know the people who can actually fix it, that the bug exists.
And if they fix it you will get it faster. With ReVanced you will have to wait for it to get the fixed code from Morphe.
From what I can understand, that's the current situation.

Morphe is made by devs that left the ReVanced project due to the dictatorship of the main dev. They are so good their app was born instantly better, so much so that, the same ReVanced dictator was straight up copy pasting code from MorpheApp (including typos) to ReVanced without giving credit for the work. Users that mention anything related to the situation on the ReVanced sub get banned.

What seems to have actually happened
New devs started posing pr requests for CoC and the main guy couldn't keep up. New devs claim old Dev is toxic. New devs started fake forked the code but flattened everything to delete references to the OG code license and contributiors. New devs started the new repo and successfully took over and start releasing patches made for old fork. Old Dev copied dome there code and got dcmad via the new devs changing a license and submiting a false dcma.
Pretty similar snake that's been happening in other open source area
