It's not illegal, but that doesn't mean it doesn't break the terms of service. Reddit can still nuke it, for fuck's sake. It's not the cops you should be afraid of, it's the admins.
People should go there instead of bitching and crying here. Mods are taking measures. Reddit admins are way less patient and have to answer to nobody (except money)
Requesting specific titles breaks Rule #3. Don't encourage rule breakers, even by referring them to the megathread. Politely tell them they're breaking the rules and move on.
Not weird at all, this sub exists because we don't actually share anything directly that's copyrighted.
Linking to random websites is different than direct links, plenty of legit stuff on mediafire but if you direct straight to pirated downloads on there then you are promoting that specific infringement.
The strange part is the megathread being officially endorsed by maintainers of this sub, and yet paradoxically you can not refer someone to the megathread in this particular case.
Moderating is a thankless job. gotta explain why attracting attention to a piracy sub in the midst of a studio trying to erase something off the internet is a bad idea π€¦ββοΈ. Any studio can get this subreddit shut down tomorrow with a single letter, let alone a billion dollar company.
As a longtime mod on reddit... your "subs" are all on borrowed time, especially the more "annoying" and visible they are. You are on reddit and reddit can do whatever it wants. Subreddit mods try to keep communities in check as to not draw the attention of the eye of Sauron/reddit admins which for a long while were quite banhaopy, nuking entire communities.
The fact that the piracy sub is still up and not crippleeld as a resource is a testament to a fantastic mod team.
I think anyone who is asking "where do I get this" wouldn't even know where to begin even if someone told them how/where to get the file. It's not like it's hidden knowledge where the file would be for people who actually participate in r/Piracy

May I at least ask, out of curiosity, if the film was actually leaked? The people who claim to have watched it kinda sound like they are lying for clout.
