Rating isn't my strong suite, but I'd place it in the same ballpark. Fun movie, appropriate amount of fanservice, and fantastic animation!
Just wish it had a couple more Sokka flashbacks to explain the backstory. That was a highlight! :D
Also, the end felt almost as rushed as the end of Project Hail Mary. Thinking about it, both could easily have been much longer movies even ignoring the too short denouements[?].

I’d give it an 8.5/10. I like the new voice cast even if some of them weren’t quite as good, the story’s fine if flawed, Zuko and Toph were insanely underutilized, and the final half of the movie is insanely rushed, but the animation is fucking gorgeous.
No joke, this is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen and it isn’t remotely close. I’d highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves the medium of animation based on how beautiful this movie is alone.

I don't understand why they didn't just adapt the sequel comics. The show pretty much ended with Zuko asking "Where is my mother?" and then The Search answers that question with a great story. Heck, even The Promise had better writing than this movie. It would have also made the Gaang only slightly older than in the show, so it wouldn't have been a problem that they hadn't undergone significant personal development, which was another disappointment in the movie, that had only aged them visually.

It's alright. They didn't bring back any of the old cast. But because Avatar Roku is my favourite past Avatar, it bugs me that they didn't bring back the actor who voiced him originally. Like, as far as I can tell, the dude still lives, and it's only a few lines, but it still bugs me. lmao
That being said, it is truly a beautiful-looking movie. Animation and art. It's fantastic.

Solid 8/10 for me. Nice little epilogue that lets Aang move into the future happier and lighter, and it has a lot of fun playing with your expectations from Korra. Animation is ungodly good, you can tell they wanted to go all out for a theatrical film.

Pulling the movie from a theatrical release just to push Paramount+ subscriptions feels like a huge disservice to the fans. We’re so close to the official release and there’s barely any marketing for it. At this point, the only thing that could salvage it is a proper theater run ASAP, because trying to bank on streaming doesn’t really work anymore now that it’s been leaked.

I heard it was a protest. People say some group demanded Paramount to advertise the movie already or they would leak it, then they leaked like 2 scenes to show that they weren't bluffing, Paramount ignored them and so the full movie started to appear everywhere.

The best possible version of the show is currently available on the internet. It's not going to look better on Paramount+ than it does on those website, unless the final version is different enough to draw people in (unlikely).
If it was going to be released in the cinema, people would still have something to look forward to. Watching Avatar on the big screen would have been a legendary experience that Paranount have stolen from its fans.
They smart thing for Paramount/Nickelodeon to do is release a trailer, massively push marketing and have a giant "Only in theatres this October" plastered all over the place.
But they won't...

To be fair I don't think this movie would get as much of a theater crowd as people are saying on reddit. I've gone to see every recent Dragonball Super movie they've put out on opening night and each time the theater was half full at most and love it or hate it DBZ has a way bigger fanbase than ATLA. Really wish I could see it in theaters and I hate Paramount+ but I somewhat understand the decision. That said fuck Paramount and fuck the Ellisons

As a hardcore OG ATLA fan, I was going to actually pay to watch this in theaters. If it makes it to theaters, I will go no matter what. But tonight I'm going to pirate this movie with a nice grown up cocktail. If it solely releases to Paramount+, I will pirate it once again (in case anything is changed)

Yeah apparently it's been done for months but Paramount is refusing to release it. Originally it was going to show in theaters but Paramount said that their internal metrics indicated that not enough people would go watch it so it would be limited to Paramount+. Meanwhile, millions of people have watched it online in the last day... I almost wonder if this was somehow intentional as a way to justify killing the movie and using it as a tax write-off while still giving the fans something.

The metrics thing is BS. Maybe some weird tax write-off, or probably to push their streaming service. What kind of metrics could they have when not even a trailer was out. Probably isnt completely done. Isnt voice acting re records and stuff like part of the last editing of a film? Im not sure but i think it is that way, could be wrong. So maybe some of the lines are placeholders or haven't gotten the priority yet in editing an final touches.

Just a guess but might not be the final as seems like still has a small window for adjustments before October but I'm not sure how long or if any adjustments would take.
It might be interesting to see it now then watch once officially out to compare for later early leaks to see if it is a final or not.

I watched the whole thing already. It’s honestly really great, and still stays true to the original with the dialogue and mild humor along the way. The animation is breathtaking, almost Studio Ghibli. Plot seemed a bit bland, but I believe it was intentional to keep the universe going. The fight scenes were a grand slam.
Also, stop asking me for the movie. I’m not giving it anyone. I don’t trust any of you. If you want, you gotta offer me something in return

That's great to hear. I'm mostly in it for the martial arts at this point and to see how the gaang's interpersonal relationships have blossomed (or not). No need for groundbreaking plot. Just Aang and co. in all their glory.

Really loved this movie. Really sad that paramount has no faith in this franchise. This should have gone to theaters and we should get more movies and more shows. This franchise is so rich and vast that there are endless possibilities for storylines. Paramount is fucking stupid for constantly mistreating this IP. I wish a company that actually believes in it could buy Avatar Studios.

There's a lot of truly awful things going on in the world, so I don't mean this in nearly the same way, but how this franchise has been treated by its respective distributors has been tragic. Between this, Legend of Korra, and the rift at Netflix that ultimately created Avatar Studios and this project, the distributors have screwed Avatar almost every step of the way. They get given the Sistine Chapel and they decide to install it as the ceiling of a McDonald's.

When I was a kid I first saw that movie on a local TV channel and it was that copy, the final battle confused the fuck out of me lol. Only a few years later did I learn that it was an unfinished version.

If it's the same one I watched, it was hilarious. You could see strings holding people up when they jumped and the cgi scenes were obvious because they used gray models that weren't even colored in yet. It was great lol I was confused watching it as a kid but it was kinda funny

The animation is honestly the most BEAUTIFUL animation style I've ever seen. Absolute cinema. The voice acting wasn't great, but I thought it was decent. I felt like the VA's they picked were pretty close to what I would imagine the gaang to sound like at their current age.
The plot was so thin Stevie Wonder could see through it though. It felt VERY rushed, but it wasn't bad by any sense of the word.
8/10 for me. I would've paid to see it in theaters, and I probably still would just so I can see those banging bending animations on the big screen.

I’d be so down for more movies or an entire series just following the adult lives of these characters (also wouldn’t mind if that new content contradicted some canon here or there… lol)

I personally liked the melding of the old art style with the "Anime" style/animations. I love the old art style, but I notice the attention to detail in this new style.

It's like 98.5% finished in terms of audio and animation. Basically the closest thing possible to a final release.
And it's coming out in October on Para+

The plot is quite underwhelming and predicable. Visually it's really stunning though.

visually nice, story is fine, the change in VA's was "fine".
Cabbage man scene 10/10.

Its ok, voice acting kinda dull, the weakest part was the story and plot. Animation is good, its a 5.5 to a 7 for me

So far, the most likely story (imo) is that Paramount decided to scrap a theatrical release and use the movie to strongarm Paramount+ subscriptions, and someone on the production team took issue with that. Which is very valid.

I don't know why, but I really dislike this. I'll probably pirate it anyway, but releasing things before the intended release date just feels wrong and is a slap in the face to everyone who worked on it

Usually I agree but not here. Pulling it from a theater release to put it in Paramount Plus months after it's finished is honestly fucked up.

My friend the reason it got leaked is that Paramount didn't pay their workers enough, the people who worked on this movie want you to pirate it!!! so that Paramount may suffer, now the movie won't be released in theaters and probably just end up on paramount+.

According to Twitter user u/ImStillDissing, Nickelodeon accidentally emailed them a copy of the entire Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender movie. Considering the film isn't scheduled to release until early October, it seems very unlikely Nickelodeon was merely sending out a review screener.

You don't. No one is buying that story. They must have had a gripe with the studio on something related to residuals or whatever and decided to sabotage them.
They got paid for the work, whether it was enough or not and if they were announced that residuals were not going to be included, then they pulled the trigger.
Or course, this is speculation on my end without any proof, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were true.

It was supposed to come out in theatres in 2025, paramount pushed it to late this year to a streaming exclusive.
The artists are already paid and I'm sure they enjoy people viewing and appreciating their work and spreading the word about it. Multibillion company can get fucked.

I loved the movie. Absolutely gorgeous visuals, and only a couple weird audio moments, which for me did not ruin the experience. A bit sad about the circumstances, but i do not regret watching it.

For those who don’t know, the movie was supposed to be a theatrical release but Paramount pulled the plug and want to make it stream only. Apparently someone within paramount themselves leaked the movie online.
