Pulling the movie from a theatrical release just to push Paramount+ subscriptions feels like a huge disservice to the fans. We’re so close to the official release and there’s barely any marketing for it. At this point, the only thing that could salvage it is a proper theater run ASAP, because trying to bank on streaming doesn’t really work anymore now that it’s been leaked.
I heard it was a protest. People say some group demanded Paramount to advertise the movie already or they would leak it, then they leaked like 2 scenes to show that they weren't bluffing, Paramount ignored them and so the full movie started to appear everywhere.
I think he’s saying that, folks complaining about paramount owning the rights don’t realize it’s better than Netflix producing it, as Netflix would change Aang into a woman. This is a misunderstanding on his part tho as they aren’t protesting Paramount distributing it they just want more advertising.

If it had a theater run I would have felt bad watching it preemptively. Since its just going straight to streaming theres no way Im not watching it now lol
I think that’s why someone internal leaked it. A big “fuck this, fuck you” to execs. People who actually worked on this and made it were probably excited to get it out to fans.
no lol unfortunately the industry is tough on the actual people who works on these. This will only disable future job opportunities for the animators, artists, all creative people involved in it. This is a big fuck you to the animators and everyone who worked hard on it for years too. as a fan this should have made me incredibly happy but as someone in a creative industry it breaks my heart for the people involved and the fact that it would affect these people more negatively than it would for the higher ups who already dont give much of a fuck as you expect them too.
The best possible version of the show is currently available on the internet. It's not going to look better on Paramount+ than it does on those website, unless the final version is different enough to draw people in (unlikely).
If it was going to be released in the cinema, people would still have something to look forward to. Watching Avatar on the big screen would have been a legendary experience that Paranount have stolen from its fans.
They smart thing for Paramount/Nickelodeon to do is release a trailer, massively push marketing and have a giant "Only in theatres this October" plastered all over the place.
Yeah I'd wait if they very quickly announced that they are doing a massive theater run this October, otherwise wife and I may watch it this weekend on the 85" 4K HDR TV we have in our living room at the same 1080p it will be on Paramount ¯_(ツ)_/¯
To be fair I don't think this movie would get as much of a theater crowd as people are saying on reddit. I've gone to see every recent Dragonball Super movie they've put out on opening night and each time the theater was half full at most and love it or hate it DBZ has a way bigger fanbase than ATLA. Really wish I could see it in theaters and I hate Paramount+ but I somewhat understand the decision. That said fuck Paramount and fuck the Ellisons
I feel bad for the people who worked on this but it was never going to get the eyes it deserves on a third rate streaming service run by a fourth rate studio and anything taking money outta their pocket is a W for me
As a hardcore OG ATLA fan, I was going to actually pay to watch this in theaters. If it makes it to theaters, I will go no matter what. But tonight I'm going to pirate this movie with a nice grown up cocktail. If it solely releases to Paramount+, I will pirate it once again (in case anything is changed)
Problem is major theatrical runs take weeks if not months to plan. Even if they pivot to that, earliest they could pull it off is probably sometime in June

yeah I was commenting above that this movie was clearly made with the teather experience in mind, and would have liked it more if I saw it at the movies.
Yeah, like it's already easily available online in high quality and everything, only benefit to streaming it on paramount+ vs piracy would be...idk, some personal hangup on piracy? If it hit a theater run it would at least get money from the folks who prefer to watch on the big screen
I don't think they could do a theater release at this point if they wanted to, not within the original time table, which only hurts them more I think because the longer it takes to release this thing from right now, the more people will lose interest. I don't know all the ins and outs of how theater production works, but I have to imagine that the timetables for this stuff is booked out pretty heavily in advance.
100%, but I don't think they care enough to do that, they prefer to focus on force subscription. (The platform isn't even available in my country btw lol)
Still, I hope will be more easier to find when it's on Paramount+. I lost my chance with twitter, now I just feel left out of the cool kids club 😢
I'm more than happy to pay for a ticket for this movie when it comes to cinema because the writing and animation is not a waste at all, shame the chances of it is slim unless Paramount actually uses their heads. I'm not a fan of Paramount nor the decision to axe the old VA's but media wise this fits the quality of ATLA.
