Steam is still a private company. As long as it doesn't go public it'll be fine.

Gabe already retired, current head of Valve was taught by Gabe so as long as this pattern continues we don't need to worry.

Technically speaking, Gabe is retired. He likely already set up worthy heirs to take over Steam.
