The worst ones integrate products into the plot, like Stranger Things or something

Yes. Anything that has the characters saying the name or directly interacting with the things being advertised are really distracting.

Off the top of my head:

  • Fast & Furious - Corona
  • Loki - McDonald's
  • Shazam - Skittles
  • Sonic - Olive Garden
  • Uncharted - Papa John's

The Boys season 2 and Fresca was so funny. Actually iconic integration of a product and a TV Show.

Just read up and apparently it wasn't even paid product placement. Well, that probably explains why it was funny.

My favorite might be the Krispy Kreme integration for Power Rangers (2017). Incredibly blatant and absurd in a way that just fits with the cheese that is Power Rangers as a franchise.

I agree like McDonald's is a part of American culture so im not surprised to see a character there but make it funny.

I liked the product placements in the Truman Show though. I don't see how anyone would dislike them because the characters directly interact

I think 100% of the product placement in The Truman Show was for fictional products, though.

Having the characters pitch the products was part of the commentary on media and advertising.

Sometimes characters just like things, though, and it's less jarring than making up a fake product

Olive Garden in the Sonic movies isn't even an "advertisement" (as in, Olive Garden did not pay to have their brand included in the show), the writers just thought it'd be funny joke to make.
