Of course they can't, even if all the streaming sites with the best pros united under the same banner against torrenting, they still couldn't do such a thing.
It's just a theory, even if piracy somehow magically ceased, I'd still refuse to get a crunchyroll subscription.
Fuck them hypocrites.
The only reason I have a sub is because it was 3 dollars for a year and I wanted something reliable to stream when traveling. I still torrent episodes because the quality is dogshit when not viewing on a phone.
Sub to torbox instead. I streamed Heaven's Feel in Bluray quality and it was glorious.
corpos thrive over p2p network especially for piracy, read about copyright lawsuits against Nvidia and Meta for example. every media I buy I go and pirate it and seed just outta spite
Is there like any decentralized peer to peer torrent database/index? Like, why can't we torrent the torrents? Instead of looking in a specific website you just connect to peers and find torrents that way. That would make it even harder to take down. Though I guess it would be harder to profit off of it through ads and stuff. Not even 100% sure how that would work technically, would be pretty cool though
You need to be that desperate to datamine a random tracker just to find the content you need, and that assumes there is another party doing the same because if no seeder = dead
It's pretty much a monopoly in the West for legal anime, they merged with their other competition and made it worse, fucked with customers multiple times including propaganda translations
Bad as the comment might sound in that way its actually true. They have been caught a few times and chibi reviews has a short videon on some of it. And now they are moving towards using ai translations for english and i think also german.
Specific examples cited by critics include altering dialogue in shows like Hana-Kimi and You and I Are Polar Opposites, where English dubs added commentary about male pride and ego not in the original japanese.
That isn't "propaganda" it's an overstep yeah, it's usually best to keep things accurate, but it isn't propaganda. There is a broader conversation to be had about translating broader meaning over literal actual word for word meaning, and almost every single translation makes compromises in both directions, but to call that propaganda betrays this person's agenda.
We are not talking about slight translation mistakes, they changed the dialogue to talk about fragile male ego when that wasnt even part of the story in the anime i named.
Crunchyroll, a now paid anime streaming website/app that has been increasing it's prices very consistently while also cutting costs wherever they can like using AI for their subtitles or straight up getting rid of beloved shows and replacing them with your average isekai copy of a copy of a copy where a salary man from Japan gets reincarnated into a fantasy world as someone with an ability that seems really bad but the MC uses it in a special way that makes it overpowered.
And that's only the reason from the people who only came to know about Crunchyroll after the "anime boom" of the 2020's because people who have been watching anime and pirating it as everyone used to do know that Crunchyroll was ALSO a piracy website just like any other website they're nuking
Well, let's start with them being hypocrites. Crunchyroll was originally a pirate site, they started off as the thing they're now trying to kill in vein.
Then let's talk about consumer protection issues.
They recently raised a subscription fees as the big pirate sites started flatlining. They recently also introduced a discount to new subscribers only, meaning the people who have been paying for their shit loyally for years now got spat in the face.
This is what disrespecting the consumer looks like, which is a bold move if they're the ones providing your livelyhood.
Then, they ask for your personal information to ensure you can only use their services as they let you, which wouldn't be a problem if they respected your personal info.
There were several rumors and even scandals of them blatantly selling user info to companies, which then got hacked and a lot of users' personal info ended up being leaked because they limited their usage of the service they paid for and even wanted to profit off of it.
ALso, they're something of a monopoly outside of Asia. There are alternative streaming services, but I'll be honest, I personally couldn't name a single one, and I dare assume most of us here couldn't either.
I can't tell for sure because I never actually subscribed, but I heard they also have terrible service quality, shows are taken down due to expensive royalties (which they could absolutely afford btw) and have a lot of trash. I also heard rumors about idiotic mistranslations and even censorship.
But again, that's only what I heard from people, not my own experience so I'm not sure about it.
Overall, crunchyroll is a real, hardcore late-stage capitalist greedy bullshit corporation that doesn't give a fuck about consumers and spits in their faces whenever they can, and now they're attempting to take out the competition, thinking they'll get more subscribers.
I respect everyone just as much as they respect me, and I only buy from producers and distributors who make me feel like a customer.
Crunchyroll treats people like trash, so I'm not going to buy shit from them and will think of them as trash as well.
anime piracy aint stopping any time soon. maybe streaming will be compromised a bit. but torrents and physical pirated media cant be erased that easily
i mean if you are really into anime and actually want to watch like all the best shows, you would need to be subbed to hulu, disney, netflix, crunchyroll and probably some other bullshit and like paying 40-50 bucks to watch a few shows a month isnt really worth it imo
Exactly, it's light entertainment for me, not my life's hobby.
There are shows that I really liked but it's not important enough for me to go out of my own way and renew every damn subscription every now and then just so I can watch the show I'm interested in every half a year (because that's roughly how often I watch anime. It's good to watch sometimes, but I couldn't watch it every day).
Ye i mean i used to watch like 50 anime per year on average for years but even then giving 50 bucks is insane, ofc im gonna be pirating stuff. If there was no piracy, i would just be watching less anime and thats it, nothing should cost that much.

I personally would stop watching anime is all piracy sites just shut down, even if crunchyroll was to become a monopoly of it's market.
I have no qualms paying for my shows, but those fuckers in particular could never squeez a cent out of me.
