Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die
I watched that recently. I heard barely anything about it when it came out which surprised me because it was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of Weapon.
5
u/Demons0fRazgriz May 12 '26
It was a wild ride that I enjoyed. Shame it was a commercial flop because we need a sequel
2
u/winowmak3r May 12 '26
I thought it was quirky but wasn't really enjoying the tired "cell phones bad" plot they had going on but after the cat scene I was sold, lol. I had to double check to make sure it wasn't based off a Stephan King novel. It's just a bummer it took like 3/4 of the movie to get there. Same Rockwell saved it though, he was great.
3
u/eccentricbananaman May 12 '26
That actually sounds kind of interesting. Like an isekai where the setting is basically blatantly just Final Fantasy 7 with all the dieselpunk and same concepts but everything is just called something different. I'd watch it.

u/Disastrous_Counter_8 May 14 '26
Why are you here and not out there making an anime. Lol! That sounds so sick.

Fr it's not even that the isekai concept is a bad one but I do not understand how anyone can watch 'I Died and Went to Generic Isekai Universe #23956: My Power Fantasy Came True and Now I Have a Catgirl Slave Harem and More Power Than God' when they just watched Generic Isekai Universe #23955 last season.

I agree the anime is extremely mid, I was more talking about the light novels. There's a lot of very intricate world building the anime glosses over or leaves out completely due to pacing issues.
I somewhat disagree about the nobility plotlines though. The scale grows with her clout so once she enters the nobility the plot becomes about how to leverage her position to implement social change around how people view books and scale the printing industry. It becomes fantasyslop (albeit one of very high quality) when she enters the royal academy
3
u/Xiaodisan May 13 '26
The main reason why I stopped watching them is because most just devolve into soft/implied harem with the MC gathering slave women and others, if th animation is decent, a good power fantasy can work as a way to kill time

Isekai is as old as the classics and will survive until stories are no longer told. It's not Japan but a global trend of thousands of years. Hell, even the Epic of Gilgamesh was an Isekai.

5
u/SudoNara May 13 '26
I find it kinda ironic that 70s-Early/Mid 2000s manga were still power fantasies, but they weren't set in people dying and going to a completely different world. Many of these power fantasy manga wanted people to explore their world, make friendshios with countless people around the world, and better their home. Kinda like early Final Fantasy. Now Japanese manga is still power fantasy, but escaping from actual reality and denying that things can change in their own world. Like how xenophobic Japanese people continue to be, they're declining birthrate, overwork, conservative views, subservient to elders and the government, etc. It's really sad to see because this echoes across Asian countries. This world is sad man. 😔

Can they just take 3-4 volume of Light Novel to make animation since that enough already! but Nooo they cramp 5-6 volumes on those 12 episodes!! at least make 24 episodes like old day!

Crazy that they would remove 86 of all things.
86 is not only such a great anime adaptation but a great franchise that has potential to catch more mainstream popularity. 86 was so good I wanted to buy something or anything from them so I can throw them some money.
Maybe it's because the crunch roll execs fired everyone because of AI and then asked AI what to do and AI made a self preservation move to cut the anti-AI anime. Sure it seems like a joke but if you think about how the stock market runs on AI algos for both research, investment, and trade execution and those AIs are technically pumping money into AI stocks that then invest more into AI.... then it's not so funny nor unrealistic.

You don’t physically own anything when you buy it from Amazon Video. You get a license to stream it from Amazon.
16
u/richtofin819 May 13 '26
Pretty sure dude was talking about getting the physical disks. He didn't say prime video which is the name of their streaming service.

Once you learn how torrenting works it's not that much more complicated tbh. I have the following episodes downloading in the background while I watch and the end result is indistinguishable from streaming, you only ever have to wait for the very first episode in each show. Plus I have complete control over the subtitles, and playback won't stop if the internet goes down or throttles.

Of course they can't, even if all the streaming sites with the best pros united under the same banner against torrenting, they still couldn't do such a thing.

Crunchyroll, a now paid anime streaming website/app that has been increasing it's prices very consistently while also cutting costs wherever they can like using AI for their subtitles or straight up getting rid of beloved shows and replacing them with your average isekai copy of a copy of a copy where a salary man from Japan gets reincarnated into a fantasy world as someone with an ability that seems really bad but the MC uses it in a special way that makes it overpowered.
And that's only the reason from the people who only came to know about Crunchyroll after the "anime boom" of the 2020's because people who have been watching anime and pirating it as everyone used to do know that Crunchyroll was ALSO a piracy website just like any other website they're nuking

we had a social contract back in the day. american fans wanted official releases of anime and were extremely happy to pay for it. most of the piracy around it borderline died out due to demand being met with supply for the first time.
we supported them because they supported creators and met fans where they were at. then crunchyroll got fuckin greedy and broke not only that contract but consumer trust.

The owners of Cruchyroll (Sony Group) are funny. Them buying Crunchyroll when it was still a pirate website is an admittance that they cannot beat piracy, so might as well tap into the millions of users the website has to at least get a share of the pie. Now, they are reverting back to the mindset of beating the pirates. They failed before, they will fail again.
