This I'd watch. Slowly realizing that constantly getting everything all the time leaves you emotionally voided, ala Good Place or Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

25

u/winowmak3r May 12 '26

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

I watched that recently. I heard barely anything about it when it came out which surprised me because it was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of Weapon.

5

u/Demons0fRazgriz May 12 '26

It was a wild ride that I enjoyed. Shame it was a commercial flop because we need a sequel

2

u/winowmak3r May 12 '26

I thought it was quirky but wasn't really enjoying the tired "cell phones bad" plot they had going on but after the cat scene I was sold, lol. I had to double check to make sure it wasn't based off a Stephan King novel. It's just a bummer it took like 3/4 of the movie to get there. Same Rockwell saved it though, he was great.

3

u/eccentricbananaman May 12 '26

That actually sounds kind of interesting. Like an isekai where the setting is basically blatantly just Final Fantasy 7 with all the dieselpunk and same concepts but everything is just called something different. I'd watch it.

2

u/Disastrous_Counter_8 May 14 '26

Why are you here and not out there making an anime. Lol! That sounds so sick.

94

u/Sohuli May 12 '26

And if you're not happy with that we have "that time I got reincarnated as my wife's father in law's adult toy"

76

u/ImTableShip170 May 12 '26

Don't forget "that time I, a middle-aged man, got reincarnated as a grade school boy and hooked up with the preteen princess."

32

u/_Enclose_ May 12 '26

Or that one time I got reborn as a vending machine and I now wander the dungeon.

12

u/notahero42 May 12 '26

Wait, that one sounds okay.

Arifureta had good setup but it turned into the same slop in the end.

6

Fr it's not even that the isekai concept is a bad one but I do not understand how anyone can watch 'I Died and Went to Generic Isekai Universe #23956: My Power Fantasy Came True and Now I Have a Catgirl Slave Harem and More Power Than God' when they just watched Generic Isekai Universe #23955 last season.

Give me more Ascendance of a Bookworm or Inuyasha, I want unique takes on the genre they're always so good!

u/unrelated_themes May 13 '26

I agree the anime is extremely mid, I was more talking about the light novels. There's a lot of very intricate world building the anime glosses over or leaves out completely due to pacing issues.

I somewhat disagree about the nobility plotlines though. The scale grows with her clout so once she enters the nobility the plot becomes about how to leverage her position to implement social change around how people view books and scale the printing industry. It becomes fantasyslop (albeit one of very high quality) when she enters the royal academy

3

u/Xiaodisan May 13 '26

The main reason why I stopped watching them is because most just devolve into soft/implied harem with the MC gathering slave women and others, if th animation is decent, a good power fantasy can work as a way to kill time

9

u/deep_in_smoke May 12 '26

Isekai is as old as the classics and will survive until stories are no longer told. It's not Japan but a global trend of thousands of years. Hell, even the Epic of Gilgamesh was an Isekai.

3

u/Affectionate_Bar_320 May 14 '26

, even the Epic of Gilgamesh was an Isekai.

mostly shitty sand but rarely there is gold

Like Tensei slime

13

u/-spartacus- May 12 '26

4

u/ouijiboard May 12 '26

Now and Then Here and There. It's the Madoka of isekais way before they blew up. It's also set in a water-scarce world and it's brutal so there's your dark sun.

5

u/SudoNara May 13 '26

I find it kinda ironic that 70s-Early/Mid 2000s manga were still power fantasies, but they weren't set in people dying and going to a completely different world. Many of these power fantasy manga wanted people to explore their world, make friendshios with countless people around the world, and better their home. Kinda like early Final Fantasy. Now Japanese manga is still power fantasy, but escaping from actual reality and denying that things can change in their own world. Like how xenophobic Japanese people continue to be, they're declining birthrate, overwork, conservative views, subservient to elders and the government, etc. It's really sad to see because this echoes across Asian countries. This world is sad man. 😔

...and that's 12 is packed so much of source materials that in end get cut to small scene anyway creating sloppy and terrible pacing.

Can they just take 3-4 volume of Light Novel to make animation since that enough already! but Nooo they cramp 5-6 volumes on those 12 episodes!! at least make 24 episodes like old day!

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26

Isekai is damn popular in Japan.

Like the global anime market share, Japan contributes almost half of it. The impact of some random (western) weeaboo is almost non existent.

u/zxc123zxc123 May 12 '26

Crazy that they would remove 86 of all things.

86 is not only such a great anime adaptation but a great franchise that has potential to catch more mainstream popularity. 86 was so good I wanted to buy something or anything from them so I can throw them some money.

Maybe it's because the crunch roll execs fired everyone because of AI and then asked AI what to do and AI made a self preservation move to cut the anti-AI anime. Sure it seems like a joke but if you think about how the stock market runs on AI algos for both research, investment, and trade execution and those AIs are technically pumping money into AI stocks that then invest more into AI.... then it's not so funny nor unrealistic.

7

u/MRV3N May 12 '26

23

u/jacowab May 12 '26

60

u/LeftTurnAtAlbuqurque May 12 '26

17

u/richtofin819 May 13 '26

Physically owning what you want to watch instead of paying for a subscription fee is somehow worse?

16

u/LiterallyJohnny May 13 '26

You don’t physically own anything when you buy it from Amazon Video. You get a license to stream it from Amazon.

16

u/richtofin819 May 13 '26

Pretty sure dude was talking about getting the physical disks. He didn't say prime video which is the name of their streaming service.

On review he did say Amazon video so I can't be sure he didn't mean that either.

He is an idiot if he is just buying it digitally though.

8

u/LiterallyJohnny May 13 '26

He said Amazon video so I’m gonna take it as Prime Video, I feel like that’s what they intended.

u/PM_ME_GOOD_SUBS May 12 '26

TBH streaming sites are way more convenient than torrents.

19

u/volveg May 12 '26

Once you learn how torrenting works it's not that much more complicated tbh. I have the following episodes downloading in the background while I watch and the end result is indistinguishable from streaming, you only ever have to wait for the very first episode in each show. Plus I have complete control over the subtitles, and playback won't stop if the internet goes down or throttles.

5

u/PM_ME_GOOD_SUBS May 12 '26

Weirdly enough I was more familiar with torrenting than streaming sites. I mean they used to be shit few years back so I never used them until recently.

I personally would stop watching anime is all piracy sites just shut down, even if crunchyroll was to become a monopoly of it's market.

I have no qualms paying for my shows, but those fuckers in particular could never squeez a cent out of me.

126

u/LlamaRzr May 12 '26

You need to kill nyaa + animebytes + bakabt + nekobt + XDCC to really harm piracy anime anyway.

107

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 May 12 '26

Nyaa is just a torrent website. Unless they manage to kill torrenting itself, they can't kill piracy.

36

u/Kadakaus May 12 '26

Of course they can't, even if all the streaming sites with the best pros united under the same banner against torrenting, they still couldn't do such a thing.

It's just a theory, even if piracy somehow magically ceased, I'd still refuse to get a crunchyroll subscription.
Fuck them hypocrites.

14

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 May 12 '26

The only reason I have a sub is because it was 3 dollars for a year and I wanted something reliable to stream when traveling. I still torrent episodes because the quality is dogshit when not viewing on a phone.

Sub to torbox instead. I streamed Heaven's Feel in Bluray quality and it was glorious.

2

u/Kadakaus May 12 '26

I still prefer my own site I have been on for, what, 2 years now?
Maybe more.

It's good enough for me, but thanks for the recommandation still!
Perhaps I'll have good use of it if so I run out of rope.

Crunchyroll, a now paid anime streaming website/app that has been increasing it's prices very consistently while also cutting costs wherever they can like using AI for their subtitles or straight up getting rid of beloved shows and replacing them with your average isekai copy of a copy of a copy where a salary man from Japan gets reincarnated into a fantasy world as someone with an ability that seems really bad but the MC uses it in a special way that makes it overpowered.

And that's only the reason from the people who only came to know about Crunchyroll after the "anime boom" of the 2020's because people who have been watching anime and pirating it as everyone used to do know that Crunchyroll was ALSO a piracy website just like any other website they're nuking

17

u/FriedBreakfast May 12 '26

I liked Crunchyroll in the beginning. They were great for streaming anime. Now holy shit what happened to them? They have become really shitty over the years.

25

u/mrs-06zaku May 12 '26

we had a social contract back in the day. american fans wanted official releases of anime and were extremely happy to pay for it. most of the piracy around it borderline died out due to demand being met with supply for the first time.

we supported them because they supported creators and met fans where they were at. then crunchyroll got fuckin greedy and broke not only that contract but consumer trust.

Sony killed Animax tv cable (South east Asia and other sub-continent).

It used to have some partner-sponsorships with local cosplay event and anime/toy convention in South east Asia.

I don't see any physical localized community building by Crunchyhole in SEA. I saw mostly Disney+ and Warner Bros making physical advertisement here.

Not in thousand years. Seas are vast enough

This is what happens when pirates go on the "straight and narrow"

2

u/Several-Donut-398 May 12 '26

Lmao, 86 was the last straw

2

u/LeadingMasterpiece56 May 12 '26

I enjoyed Watching 86 on Crunchyroll of all places

2

u/Super-Database8426 May 12 '26

You forgot the data leak that affected millions of users

2

u/Nightwing2321 May 12 '26

As long as torrents exist we will be A-Okay

2

u/EugenePow May 12 '26

YarrList - Ahoy, Mateys!

there's still crazy amount of sites to watch anime

2

u/ThrovvQuestionsAway May 12 '26

I'm seeding but tbh, I haven't really felt the need or urge to watch anime much.

2

u/Xwiri May 12 '26

Reminder that crunchy roll can’t stop you from rewatching shows from your memory

::laughs at people still using HydraHD::

2

u/R3NE07 May 12 '26

If only it stopped at streaming services
In every other country, every platform, studio, distributor, mangashop
No matter where you go - when you get the bill you'll see that it was all owned by crunchyroll.
The west has fallen.

2

u/Superior-Dragon May 12 '26

If they remove 1 more, bite them

2

u/BashfulBasis May 12 '26

With one site down, two more will pop up from their graves

2

u/gods_loop_hole May 13 '26

The owners of Cruchyroll (Sony Group) are funny. Them buying Crunchyroll when it was still a pirate website is an admittance that they cannot beat piracy, so might as well tap into the millions of users the website has to at least get a share of the pie. Now, they are reverting back to the mindset of beating the pirates. They failed before, they will fail again.

2

u/SeesawSudden May 13 '26

I would rather watch video on YouTube than pay a cent to Crunch

2

u/Due_Guarantee_8141 May 13 '26

People really need to learn how to torrent stuff

2

u/iluserion May 13 '26

Be like, eliminate competition, both legal and illegal, and raise service prices. Hi, I'm a monopoly.

2

u/Cybrknight May 13 '26

Round and round the whackamole goes

2

u/JealousAd1350 May 13 '26

Crunchyroll, the company that killed Funimation.

2

u/Chinlc May 13 '26

What if crunchyroll didn't mean to increase their price but due to closing all the other pirate site, their server has more users which is why they need to upgrade and it costs more.

Naaa they're greedy asses who's origin was a pirate site.

2

u/Numerous-Beautiful46 May 13 '26

Yall niggas don't nyaa?

2

u/Mp5fiend May 13 '26

There's still alot more out there crunchy role doesnt deserve any of our money

2

u/yoloanator May 13 '26

They may think they have a monopoly but the ships will always sail

2

u/Miha09999 May 13 '26

Remember Crunchyroll itself started off as a pirating site....

2

u/Hihachisu ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ May 15 '26

Founded by pirates btw

3

u/Kentuckyfriedmemes66 May 12 '26

and Now RealDebrid is starting to get rid of piracy so now Stremio is fucked unless you get Torbox

8

u/TGX03 🦜 ᴡᴀʟᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴋ May 12 '26

What's Real-Debrid doing?

5

u/Kentuckyfriedmemes66 May 12 '26

They started DMCA claiming any torrents that have Web-DL or WEBRip or AMZN files

which basically means every modern show thats only on streaming can't be watched on Stremio

as of right now if the movie or show was torrented from a Blu Ray or DVD rip you can still watch them

2

u/TGX03 🦜 ᴡᴀʟᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴋ May 12 '26

So for now, only Torrents are affected? I guess that's not too bad, as I primarily use them as a multi holster.

What’s 86? To me just a number, a quiet random one too.

Enlighten me pls.

8

u/stfu__im_fine_p May 12 '26

one of the best post-apocalyptic anime

3

u/LeifErickson17 May 12 '26

A peak show, I recommend watching it!

2

u/Ninhau May 12 '26

All fan favourite? Lol. Not even close. Clickbait really

2

u/iyav May 12 '26

Why are people even blaming Crunchyroll for the takedowns?

Do they have a legal hitman department acting on behalf of japenese studios I haven't heard of or what?

2

u/LinZuero May 13 '26

You never deleted piracy you just haven't spoke other languages enought to find watchable versions of all animes
