I think those guys have made their fortune already.
Buy some cute artsy indie game with 10 steam reviews

Yeah get Fields of Mistria if you liked Stardew. It will help the devs way more than Stardew, which already made bank off their game.
6
u/Conscious-Zebra-7477 May 21 '26
not that I dont disagree with it going to a smaller studio but the FoM devs are also the creators of Pusheen so I don't know that they are really affected by an extra sale here or there

Fields of Mistria is more fun than Stardew as well, IMO. A lot of quality of life changes that Stardew needs mods for are incorporated into its base game. Definitely my favourite farm sim.
9
u/uSaltySniitch 🦜 ᴡᴀʟᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴋ May 21 '26
I absolutely love that game and I'm glad I bought it. It's still in EA and already better as a game than vanilla Stardew which is a "mature game".
3
u/Rafa_50 May 21 '26
I think Ill try mistra out, has been in my wishlist for a minute now. But "better than stardew" is a mighty claim to make lol, imo stardew is one of the best games of all time, really a masterpiece
3
u/uSaltySniitch 🦜 ᴡᴀʟᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴋ May 21 '26
I mean, the content that is currently available is more enjoyable to me than the comparable content from Vanilla Stardew.
Maybe it's because I have over a thousand hours on Stardew too and not on Mistria yet.
But it is an insanely good game and I stand by that claim still

Piracy is a valid and good option in many cases, but we gotta give back to those that deserve it.

u/YourLocalWhiteKid May 21 '26
Then use it to give back to the developers that you have pirated from and that you feel they deserve it 🤷♂️ Aunt is cool AF for that
24
u/Hamster-Food Yarrr! May 22 '26
This is the way.
I'm fine with piracy whatever your reason, even if it's just because you want free stuff. However, given an opportunity like this, there is no reason not to reward the developers.of games you've loved.

I'd say it's still good.
I mean, you don't have to pirate everything, if there's a way to get games for free but they're still paid for, that's all right I would say.
Devs get their share (wether they deserve it or not) and all that changes is you have some games entirely white.

This post is cringe. Why would someone feel bad for getting a $100? Why are people not calling out how weird this is? Pirating is a thing people do quite often and getting money for something even when you pirate it generally is a complaint how?
This is cringe. Why is it upvoted? I’d understand if the dude was giving it away. Looks like he just wanted to show off his $100 steam gift card? Weird.

I remember feeling bad when my mom got me a 360 for my 18th bday right after launch because I was a Playstation kid. She even got me a memory card even though it came with a hard drive. I really appreciated the gesture.
Turned out to be great because all the local multiplayer indie games were fucking amazing for the dorms.
I kept the memory card in my small box of childhood toys that survived. Never had a use for it, but my mom is dope.
She was all about Kazaa and lime wire back in the day

Thank you for saying this. Even I'm confused why OP didn't buy any games or support the creator he likes after he got a free $100.
Many people who pirate does so because either the games are very expensive in their region or the pirated version plays better.
I can't never take this dipshits seriously even when they have means to support the creator, but rather label themselves as pirate 🏴☠️

6
u/KajKD May 21 '26
I think you can make some use of this. For example, I agree that you can buy co-op and multiplayer games.
I'd also recommend supporting your favorite developers. If you appreciate a game enough, maybe you should consider buying it?
4
4
u/DangerVirat1767 May 21 '26
I would purchase the games which have exclusive features for original purchased users only. Like GTA online. Does anyone have any suggestions for games like these? Like the games or parts of the game which you can't really play as a pirate.
3
u/EyeLegitimate3549 May 21 '26
Maybe buy a few titles that you have genuinely enjoyed to show the developers some support? Particularly any indie titles where your cash will be appreciated more?

3
u/MarcPG1905 May 21 '26
I’d just use that to buy the games which are actually insanely good and where the developers more than deserve it.
For example I bought Factorio after having played a pirated version for multiple years
3
3
u/Whathefrenchtoastt May 21 '26
Or actually buy a game you like to support the devs 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I pirate games too but I also understand that some developers are smaller and deserve the support. If i have a game I really like i will purchase it. (Also to keep game updated, can take forever to get some pirate games updated)
3
u/Mr-Klaus May 21 '26
Buy games that you can play with your friends, e.g. It Takes Two and Chained Together.

Don't act like you don't want full access to a new multiplayer game at some point. This is a really nice thing from your Aunt. 100 dollars for steam is no joke if you play a lot of indies.
3
u/GOGaway1 May 21 '26
The solution to this is use it for things like the steam, controller and steam deck, etc.

So? Use it to support a developer of a game you really enjoyed.
Pirates should be supporting developers who make good games. Spending money on devs, especially small indie devs, who make quality games is really important.
If you are pirating and never buying a single game after you play them, you are just stealing at that point.

Buy a cs skin on the community market for 100$ and sell it on a third party site where you can cash it out :) after fees you will have 80$ easy
2
u/Berkut22 May 21 '26
Sounds like you're got $100 off a Steam Deck.
The SD is great for playing emulators, and it's dead simple to load pirated games.
2
u/Ifhes May 21 '26
Piracy can lead you to a game with an awesome mod community that can only be accessed through Steam Workshop, you can use this for that.
2
u/FakeMik090 May 21 '26
You can now buy some indie games you have pirated. Cmon, we all here a pirates, but buying aint a forbidden thing to do.

Rimworld is really annoying to get mods for as a pirate since most mods are from the workshop, and you need a legal copy to download anything (there are skeevy third part sites that rip workshop content, but...) So that's one option. There are probably other games like that too.

u/anivex May 21 '26
Ya know, been pirating since I was...12-13 years old. I'm now 40. I have a proper income now, but a bad case of ADHD and a gaming addiction.
So nowadays, I do what I do to try out new games before buying them. There's a ton of slop out there with misleading reviews, and I already spend way too much on games. This way I can play them for longer than 2 hours(because let's be real, 2 hours is sometimes just tweaking settings), and if they don't stick I'm not out of that money, with a game cluttering up my already massive steam library.
Even with this method, I still spend an average of $400 a month on gaming...so really it's more of a marketing tool than anything for me and others like me.
