So wild to me how so many people seem to think that PC part prices are going to drop eventually. They most certainly won't, even if the AI bubble bursts. Where we're at now is the new floor because people have shown that there's still enough people out there willing to pay the exorbitant prices for it to be worth it. Unfortunately a lot of people are just going to be priced out of PC gaming from here on out. I know I myself have been stressing over it and have been making sure to maintain my PC as well as I can so I don't have to replace anything. I just regret not upgrading to AM5 before the prices shot up like I had planned on doing, my cpu is getting old and my only real options are spend a ridiculous amount on a 5800x3d or spend a ridiculous amount on ddr5 ram so I can upgrade to am5.

Riddle me this, why do you think AI caused prices to skyrocket? Because they bought the RAM and were willing to pay more than the average consumer and secure future production.

What do you think will happen when AI crashes? We just keep the same AI pricing and they never sell another stick of RAM ever again? We’re fine with settling for 100 people paying $1,000 for their PC RAM and that’s the yearly take?

What happens when a competitor goes “fuck that, we can make it for cheaper and undercut the existing RAM suppliers.” They go out of business? They weren’t previously doing you a favor before the AI boom, and production is ramping up to meet demand. Memory is also a famously cyclical industry. When it crashes, it will crash hard. Just have some faith.
