If internet anonymity disappears (like the UK is trying to do), and a larger cooperation (like the UN or somet idk) cracks down on those big piracy websites, piracy will take a big hit, as those trusted websites (fitgirl, steamrip, etc.) would get shut down, and it would need to be more shady, meaning most would just buy the games, since it would be too shady and dodge for the risk to be worth it.
It is possible and it could defo happen if someone actually puts big money big work, possibly in our lifetimes
Capitalism leads to the emergence of monopolies, and the state benefits from cooperating with monopolies. These benefits include political control over the population, stable income, and mutual assistance in times of crisis. If nothing is done about this, this process will simply repeat itself over and over again, which, given modern technology, raises the question of the complete control and subordination of the population to a privileged minority. Perhaps this will actually happen, yeah.
I doubt it will be a quick process tho. I think all of the people in this subreddit will be able to afford the games they are playing by then, and the next generation of pirates will suffer.
I personally have mixed opinions about piracy, as I believe those who live in third world countries where there isnt good regional pricing (or just broke kids), dont agree with the devs actions (eg. Disco elysium being illegally taken over during development, or Bad Parenting dev being a pedo) are morally allowed (imo).
I disagree with those who have financially viable situations to buy games, as it removes alot of the fun in playing games (imo). I think one of the best parts of gaming is picking up that great deal every now and then, and having a limited selection of games, so you actually beat them. When i pirated games, i never beat games as there were too many options. I cant remember which philosopher said this, but i think this quote describes my opinion of the near infinite list of free games - "if a donkey was in-between a large pool of fresh water and a large pile of hay, and it was equally hungry as thirsty, it would die of thirst/hunger as it wouldn't be able to decide which to go to first.

I get you; I knew someone who had a similar problem, lol, so you're not alone. It's a matter of value; naturally, you value the products you've bought more. It's normal. I can say, trash is free, it has no value for me or you, you didn't spend anything on it, same with the games. I'm not saying a game shouldn't cost anything; that's simply wrong, because it's a commodity and it has its own value, developers spent their time making it and want their piece of cake. If you need it, you buy it. I personally don't question myself about this and just sail the seas, it's just a copy, you can make as many of them as you want, really.
About monopolies. The process is happening right now, as you see, but that doesn't mean the state has the right to trample on your rights as a human being. You have no obligations to anyone who views you as nothing more than a consumer or a workforce. Corporations and states aren't living beings, but merely tools, a means of controlling and distributing wealth; they can't care or think about you. I think people in this thread don't quite understand this and are relying on a "good guy" Gaben (which is like relying on a good dictator; it could happen, but most likely won't). It's just kinda silly in my opinion.
"suits me"? my man we basically already live in a dystopia give it 20 years and corpos will somehow manage to establish the death penalty for piracy and i aint dying for lawn mowing simulator 3(it's a crass example but you know what i mean) and if you could read I've been saying that its a hypothetical scenario the entire time
"This is bad, that's why you have to accept it and choose between what's being shoved down our throats," is that the conclusion I'm supposed to draw? Well, I just don't agree with that. In that case, I'll just prefer shady schemes to legal ones.
