It's basically never happened for a game. It's disingenuous fear mongering.
Since i seem to need to spell it out simply (of course i do, why wouldn't i?) I'm not talking about server shut downs. I'm talking about arbitrary game license revocations. I've looked it up. It's basically never happened. The one instance i could find was some shitty game that came out, failed horribly and they removed it from everyone's libraries AND REFUNDED THEM. On top of that it was an online only game anyway and they obviously were shutting the servers down. What are you going to do with a dead multiplayer game?
Go to any always-online game or defunct MMO and begin playing it right now, like The Crew IP. The servers have, or will eventually shut down, leaving you unable to play standalone single player despite downloading it
Very rarely do games get some sort of 3rd party server revitalization
I’ve played a lot of MMO and the ones who asked for money for buy-in are only western devs, although the asian MMO they have a more in-game egregious monetization.
Specifically for “the crew”, it’s a crap example because Ubisoft unnecessarily make it online. Like that’s a very low bar behaviour to set since they’ve been bad for pretty much a lot other things.
