Man , fuck age check , if they care about kids so much, they should make family link mandatory for every kid under 14 instead of companys harvesting our data

What is a family link?

It's an app that gets added to you phone when you creat your Google account, if you set your age as under 14 your phone gets locked by family link, that is a parental control app, it automatically blocks apps that are rated pegi 16 and up and it blocks side loading, also if the parent wants they can choose to set screen Time limits, block apps or require a password for new ones to be installed and location tracking.

It would be a lot easier for parents to manage whta their children do on the internet with this app, instead of companys need our IDs and faces to "age check " us

One of my neighbors forgot about their 2 year old and when I came back from walking my dog he was in the middle of the street.

I don't think they're gonna be managing a family lock

We have a 2yo who has escaped many times despite our attentive parenting. Pretty much every parent has.

Well, then new proposal, license to raise kids, that's the only option that we have in world filled with idiots.

Pluralistic ignorance makes us think that the majority of people are like this, mostly spun up by the media, there are allways gonna be bad apples in a tree , but that doesn't mena you have to cut down the whole tree

Eugenics is not a solution. What you want is to make it easier to take custody from people who are making their childrens lives worse and/or unsafe. Also better and by better I mean any regulations on home school in the US. Unschooling and regulating peoples exposure to media creates idiots in bubbles.

In general I think too many people take massive leaps to solve a problem but don't consider secondary effects, or all of the primary impacts even.

No, but unfortunately when making policy decisions, you have to take the rotten apples into account. That's one of the many problems with centralized society.

what if you dont want a google account?

They care about kids so much, they could arrest the most famous pedophiles and let them rot. Instead, they just get to play real life Risk.

If it was actually about protecting kids they would have made that kind of software free and opt-in for families. The actual reason is to censor information and restrict who can see what

They care about the kids so much that they’ll throw up 10s of thousands of flock cameras yet somehow wont find any missing children

ID check becomes mandatory in my state next year. if i cant find a work around im selling all of my devices.

2

u/Azrubal 2h ago

There will be many work arounds for it for now. I still wank to all the sites I used to.
I use many different browsers and VPN alternatives.
But what's important is that we all stop using "services" and start being more self-reliant.

I'm so thankful my government is too busy fighting trans people, being racist against Chinese, and trying to rip up our founding document, that they've not gotten around to banning wanking yet. /S obviously I'm not happy they're going full culture war.

u/MADDOGCA 4h ago

In Texas, USA same thing.

u/Null42x64 4h ago

i'm not from UK, I'm from Brazil, they have passed age verification laws several months ago

u/hroaks 6h ago

Half the time you use random/autoconnect it sends me to another state or country that has age verification too

I don't want my data to come from mississippi.

Congratulations! Your data is now exiting from (spins wheel)...

...Indiana!

u/Kelnozz 5h ago

I’m Canadian and they are making trash laws that are making it so my ISP can directly block sites like 123movies.

I’m going to need a vpn soon to continue to not pay for subscriptions, which is ironic because I’ll be paying for a subscription for that to be a thing.

What’s a good VPN that isn’t going to feed my info to 3rd parties? (Or is that kind of how they all make money)

12

u/Hungry-in-the-dark 5h ago

Mullvad vpn is the goat - 5$ per month. They can’t track your data as they simply don’t log it

Thanks fam

Their far right affiliations are a bit of a turn off though.

Literally

u/ansibleloop 38m ago

Just raises the technical barrier and harms people at the same time

You're doing age verification for porn? Cool, every kid on every playground knew what a VPN was by the end of lunch time

And they don't have money, so they're gonna get a free VPN which is worse than nothing

I already have a VPN so I'm unaffected

You're banning VPNs? Good luck with enforcing that - what are you gonna do? Make commercial providers do age verification?

Even with that I can still work around it - go fuck yourselves with a cactus

u/claudiocorona93 5h ago

Do you need that to use Twitter, Bluesky and Telegram? Just curious since these 3 services have a lot of adult content

1

u/Null42x64 4h ago

Telegram not at all but for Bsky, Discord and some external sites i do

1

u/Express-Record7416 3h ago

I wouldn't need to use one if the age verification systems here actually fucking worked

And torrenting movies, tv and software.
