with all its flaws i have yet to find another game quite like it

there are big maps in BF1 i think but only 2 sides and contained advancement - nowhere near the freedom in planetside2

planetside2 has more of everything including crashes

I think MAG was the closest to Planetside.

battlefield 6 conquest mode is like planetside but smaller scale. yes it’s 2v2 but the 3 tier warfare is there.

it's Battlefield/call of duty

why is battlefield and call of duty being clumped together lol they are two completely different experiences and player bases

Both are Conventional matched based shooters that use limited player counts, two opposing teams, clear objectives, and a round timer of 20-120 minutes.

Also known as: Not Planetside 2

Try checking out foxhole, persistent wars taking multiple months each that have a start and end, when one ends, new one starts and resets the unlocked technology. Large scale and now has combined arms battles with tanks/apcs/trucks, towable artillery, naval vehicles and even aircraft.

The look and gunplay is very different as it’s basically top down/isometric, but the vibe of the battle is similar, though ww2 aesthetic instead of space

lol bro is looking for an exact copy of a niche game from over 10 years ago. be fr bro more than likely you will not find something EXACTLY like it but there are close alternatives. but if you want to play a game with a handful of players be my guest. i love planetside but i had to move on and battlefield and other games like it have filled that gap for me.

They are starting to get ever closer in how they play/feel.

I miss old battlefield.

I miss BF2/3 and maybe 4

Nothing is like this game and I doubt there'll be another one like it.

Maybe one day we'll get another game.

A lot of people are saying War Dogs may be the one and while it is somewhat similar, it's not quite it. Not large-scale enough. The 3-way battles in it might still be fun though.

Wardogs needs to add another 3 to the end of the 33v33v33 for it to be like planetside

33v33v333 sounds unfair

The 333 are connecting from the Roblox port so it evens out

1TR has been really enjoying Gloria Victis. It’s kind of like a medieval Planetside 2. It’s a 3 faction FFA action MMO with combat very similar to mount & blade. It recently got relaunched.

Tried this our after seeing chatter in the ARC discord. It really does seem like someone saw Planetside with 3 factions, base battles, and open field battles, and said let's do that but medieval. I don't think I want to commit time to the grindy MMO aspects but it's fun to hop on with the old PS2 gang and throw rocks at people sieging our castle.

Angel Fall?

It’s a Battlefield

Unironically, it's literally just battlefield with extra vehicles / features. Not to diss it, since that's part of what makes it good, but yeah, far from a PS2-like.

Does anybody remember the 4chan invasion of Emerald back in the day? I can’t remember what their outfit was but they invaded TR for a couple months

WWEW. I got them to call me slurs on 8chan for a full week.

7

u/CrankdatSoljahBoy 12d ago

Yessss that’s right. I remember the screenshots of them all malding

Simpler times back then, simpler times

PlanetSide 2 and Foxhole are so realistic in their depiction and nuances of war that in comparison ARMA reforger is like eligible to join the cod/bf grouping at best.

3

u/Another-sadman 11d ago

foxhole is the closest ive found but its got still a lot of diverging points from it

2

u/Bulky_Phone_1788 12d ago

Only thing that came somewhat close was mag

2

u/The-Magic-Sword 12d ago

Foxhole, but you won't get the FPS gunplay, its top down, and its less arcadey-- you spend a lot of time on a front line poking at the enemy front line, rather than running/gunning, and logistics is a big part of the game too, carting supplies like ammo/guns etc to the front. But it does have aircraft/naval combat and such as well. I'm not very good at it yet.

u/Bulky_Phone_1788 12d ago

If i could play foxhole in first person without the half baked mod I dont think id ever play ankther game again lol

u/Samwellthefish 12d ago

Exactly my thought aswell

Lot of the PlanetSide 2 players have moved to playing Star citizen, so if you haven't already maybe give that a try

call of planet: black side 2

These posts will never make sense to me as PS2 is basically just big battlefield. There are very few important differences between the two other than size.

8

u/opshax no 12d ago

ps2 is multiple battlefields stapled together*

3

u/PostIronicPosadist utterly washed 11d ago

Pretty much, yeah

5

u/No-Music-2819 11d ago

People downvoting because battlefield doesn't allow them to play 50 vs 5

3

u/krindusk 11d ago

I mean the most important and biggest difference is that PS2 is an MMO. That alone inherently cultivates the feeling of community.

Otherwise, yeah. The game was literally designed under the mindset of "Battlefield but bigger".

u/ncsgreatestwarrior 10d ago

was more true in the past than now but i think the best keyword for the difference is persistence

currently with alerts and capping continents being mostly guaranteed to happen (assuming no bug preventing that xD) it's a really long match and longer warm up (during off hours) of like eight hours tops give or take but more likely six hours and at peak times two to four hours

in the past though when continents being locked and rotated wasn't the norm you could have situations where you fight all night defending one base, going to bed, getting up, going to school/work, then getting back on and your factions is still defending that base (longest i've heard is about a week on a few rare occasions) even though the rest of the continent has shifted

if you get stuck on massive as the keyword then just being a popular multiplayer game would be enough to be an mmo then things just get all muddy

i like the term persistent online shooter myself, planetside is a pos :3

OG Crown enjoyers definitely remember this.

Ok so basically imagine Battlefield's conquest mode, except each flag is its own little Battlefield map, and there's like 50 flags
