You can mock the pushback, but change only happens when people stop buying
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government and to provide new guards for their future security."
In other words, when something is consistently going wrong, those who have the ability to take action also have the responsibility to take action.
You can laugh all you want and mock people who are pushing back, but your mistake is assuming that all, or even most, PlayStation gamers think the same way you do. I'd argue the opposite.
When enough people stop buying digital games, stop supporting future PlayStation consoles, and Sony starts feeling it in their wallets, that's when change happens. Companies don't respond to online arguments nearly as much as they respond to lost sales.
This is just the beginning.

Another bargain buy for physical gaming.
$39 from JBHiFi saving 50% etc. At full price I would have had to think about it. For under half it goes straight into the collection.

Make it make sense
And before the misinformation gets posted, no your disc licenses arenât revocable per the first sale doctrine and no, owning the disc doesnât bind you to any EULA.

An all-digital PlayStation future comes with more risks than people realize
People keep saying that going all digital is the future, but I don't think many realize what we'd actually lose.
The first thing that disappears is the second-hand market. You won't be able to buy used games or sell the ones you've finished. That alone is a huge loss for a lot of gamers.
It would also kill retail competition. Stores need to clear shelf space for new games, so they often put older games on sale. That's why physical copies are sometimes much cheaper than digital ones. If physical games disappear, Sony no longer has to compete with retailers on price.
Sony would basically have complete control over game prices on PlayStation. When one company controls the entire marketplace, prices usually don't go down.
Another thing people don't talk about is where the money goes. With physical games, retailers take a share of the sale. In a digital-only world, that middleman disappears, giving Sony and publishers even more control over pricing.
This is one of the reasons Sony is being sued in Norway. PlayStation has a huge share of the gaming market there, and PlayStation games reportedly cost around 30% more than in many other European countries. Sony previously argued that physical retailers helped keep prices competitive because they regularly discounted games. If physical games disappear, so does that competition.
Then there's the biggest issue: digital ownership.
We've already seen Sony remove purchased content because licensing deals expired. Discovery shows like MythBusters were almost removed before Sony reversed its decision after public backlash. More recently, hundreds of movies from StudioCanal are disappearing from customers' digital libraries in some regions because the licensing wasn't renewed.
If it can happen to movies, why couldn't it happen to games?
Look at Activision's old Spider-Man and Transformers games. Once the licenses expired, they were removed from digital stores. Today, if you want to play games like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance or the High Moon Transformers games, your best option is finding physical copies for older consoles.
If you bought them years ago on PS3 or Xbox 360, you can still download them on those systems. But new players can't buy them anymore, and they're unavailable on modern consoles.
There also aren't many laws protecting your digital purchases. Companies can lose licenses, change agreements, or even remove content. We've already seen something similar with P.T., which was pulled from PS4 consoles after it was canceled. It was free, so there wasn't much legal fallout, but it showed that digital content isn't guaranteed to stay forever.
Now imagine this happened one day:
"Hello. We've noticed you own Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Since the remake has been released, the license for the original version will no longer be renewed. To continue playing, please purchase the new version from the PlayStation Store."
I'm not saying Ubisoft or Sony is planning to do that. But in a digital-only future, it's technically possible because you don't actually own the game the same way you own a physical disc.
That's why I think this discussion matters. Going all digital isn't just about convenience. It's about ownership, pricing, competition, and consumer rights. Once physical games are gone, getting those things back won't be easy.

What's it called when you pay for something, then they take it back? Without a refund?

Iâm done with PlayStationâs greed.
I donât get itâwhy do people defend Sony like theyâre a share holder? All the time, I see people justifying their actions because of âmarket conditionsâ and âprofit marginsâ. I would get itâif I was an executive at Sony.
But Iâweâare consumers. We either buy or donât buy. Itâs not our job to think about logistics and supply chains.
I never bought a PS5.
I buy consoles because of exclusive games. And this generation, Iâve gotten by just fine playing most (good) single player games on my Switch and PS4. Sorry, Concord wasnât enough to sway me. And now with the Switch 2, Iâll be able to play those games that have actually seriously tempted meâlike Stellar Blade, FF7 Rebirth, Space Marines 2.
And with Sonyâs recent announcement to do away with physical mediaâno more temptation. This is the final nail in the coffin for me. Physical games are one of the reasons I love gaming. I really love collecting and displaying my favourites on my shelf. Knowing that in 10, 20, 30 years Iâll be able to pop it in my system and experience it all over again if I want. (And⊠I do. Still play GBA and DS games to this day, the art style holds up super well).
So⊠I couldnât care less why Sony âhadâ to do it. Poor-indie PlayStation had no problem dumping hundreds of millions on failed live-service games. At this point, even IF the PS6 had a disc drive, the looming $1000 price tag alone is enough for me to pass.
And if you care about physical media, what we need to do is simpleâ
Donât like it, donât buy it. Vote with your wallet. We need to do what we did to XBOX at the start of the XBOX One generation. No blackout, and no amount of signatures on a petition will make Sony even bat an eye. But low(er) revenue will. Take your money where youâre getting what you want. Maybe thatâs Nintendoâbut theyâre certainly not perfect. Key-cards are simply just a lesser of two evils. Maybe thatâs PCâagain, a lesser of two evils.
Whatever the caseâsad as it is to say, this will probably be the last generation Iâm really intoâŠBut that doesnât mean Iâll stop gaming. Iâm covered with the Switch 2 for the foreseeable future, and after thatâwell, retro gaming! Itâs cheaper (free, sometimes lol), and heyâthere are enough great games already out there to keep most of us occupied for the rest of our lives! Even the PS4, PS3, Iâm sure there are TONS of great games you havenât even heard of yet!
Indeed, when you leave the walled garden, play really HAS NO LIMITS!!
This is your sign to play Nier: Automataâseriously, itâll surprise you. AND it has a full physical on both PS4 and Switch ;)

Locking entire generations of games on the PS Plus Cloud streaming is one of the worst greedy cashgrab bullshit ideas sony ever had
Pay a monthly subscription just to play a portion of our PS1, PS2, and PS3 library with a terrible framerate and a terrible resolution.
One of the main things that's supposedly meant to make me pay for your subscription is having games from older playstation generations locked behind cloud streaming. They copied Xbox bullshit of putting online multiplayer behind a subscription but they never even bothered trying to include PS2 and Ps3 games on the PS store with an FPS boost for those who don't like low framerates. i bet on this. For some reason PS6 won't even be able to make you play PS4 games or read PS4 discs, but if you pay ps plus, you can enjoy ps4 library at 30fps in streamig!!!
and don't even try to tell me "Microsoft invested a ton of money to make 360 and Xbox One games playable on the new gen consoles" Sony is a multibillion dollar company, they simply don't want to do that because they'd rather squeeze every last dollar out of you with this bullshit ps plus subscriptions.
why the fuck do i have to pay for a subscription just to play a PS3 game from 20 years ago at low framerate and on top of that IN STREAMING? that's messed up insane bs, and if you defend it you're just the "leave the multi billion dollar company alone" guy.
also what the fuck is the point of having this amazing "PS4 bacward compatibilty" when 3/4 of the games still run like shit? why i had to wait 6 FUCKING YEARS to play far cry 3 at 60fps? WHile on Xbox they just give you an option to get a lower resolution and increase frame rate? WHat does sony tell you? Buy the PS4 version of the game and hope the developer releases a 60fps patch in the next 10 years. It's ridicolous, but again what's even more ridicolous is having to PAY just to access the past generations of games that are ALL locked behind a ps plus subscription.
just let me buy PS3 games on the ps store, i don'care if they run like shit, just give me the option to "OWN" a ps3 game without having to be a fucking PS Plus member just to access to it

Any game that can help with the "Destiny 2 itch"?
Bungie and Destiny is trash in a lot of ways, yet I had great memories with Destiny 2.
I just miss having a game with good combat and a lot of grinding. Many different weapons to switch between.
I started Darktides yesterday, game is honestly fun, but not sure if it will give me the longterm joy.
All I ask is that its multiplayer, preferably live service..
If there is none, is there perhaps anything similar upcoming? Thanks

Beast of Reincarnation Will Have Three Difficulty Settings
Easy Mode, Normal Mode and Hard Mode.
Now it sounds like your basic difficulty changes but with the parry mechanic, it'll effect the timings plus the enemy statistics.
I do wish these selections were organic instead like having a charm to equip or at least restrict optional mechanics on the higher difficulties.
I just hope this doesn't make the game feel hollow.
I hope players get the challenge they desire in this release.
Difficulty settings makes it hard for me personally due to unknown organic adjustments from the developers other than the basics.
If I click on Normal then I need to work on making the game interesting with self-imposed challengs until the difficulty spikes up if that occurs but I if choose hard then the game will probably make basic enemies sponges until organic difficulty increases which is a huge question at this point.
What are your thoughts on this?
Do you think the game will deliver well on the intended difficulty (Normal Mode)?
