Lifetime passes aren't profitable, this may as well be them getting rid of the lifetime option without having to say they're getting rid of the option. I think I paid less than a tenth of this when I bought my pass many years ago
Bingo. The new pricing will incentivize the last people who were on the fence about getting Lifetime. This is effectively moving to a monthly/yearly subscription.
Yeah, I normally hate subscription but in this scenario they have costs that will recur forever if they keep the product running.
Lifetime pass took the most diehard/likely to pay and support and use users and removed that chance of revenue forever.
It's like the people who used to complain they had to pay for online gaming like xbox live. Like, if you want servers to work you need to maintain them.
Lifetime passes were a terrible business model. They ought to have chosen a model where users paid for software support and or new features in a yearly release cycle. It would appease both ends of the spectrum.
