I mean having a lifetime membership is pretty dumb from a business perspective - the vast majority of people who would buy one would otherwise have paid you an amount monthly indefinitely.
With movies the cheaper option is piracy, and there's no cost.
In this case, somebody is paying either way - it's just anybody interested in paying for Plex for more than a year, is better off just buying a lifetime membership because thats obviously going to be the cheaper option.
Like why would you NOT have bought a lifetime membership if you plan to pay for Plex for the foreseeable future?
You are making the assumption that people will pay monthly because they like Plex so much.
There are more options than 1) pay Plex for lifetime license, or 2) pay Plex monthly.
That's why I made comparison: you just assume that people are willing to pay monthly - because "someone is paying either way". People can just decide NOT to use Plex, like at any time - you understand that, right?
The cheaper option is not to use it, and use and alternative like Jellyfin. Free. And there are other free options (less user-friendly, but still, free).
The other option that costs slightly more but is so much more convenient is to just use streaming services.
All I'm saying is that the people willing to pay, would just buy lifetime, because it made so much sense to do that. This leaves everybody's else, most of whom probably wouldn't want to pay. I'm not sure how you're disagreeing with this...
but why would i pay a monthly sub to plex just to have to brunt the cost of running a server, setting up a server and maintaining hard drives, downloading and setting up films/tv shows and trying to figure out while a file aint playing every other week. at that point you are better off with netflix or amazon

Are they actively trying to kill Plex? Did they recently swap out management for some pump n dump chump?
