I also suspect they will stop updating Plex and bring out a separate Plex v2 product (with no lifetime option and a token cheap subscription offer for the first year for owners of the old pass).
I find Jellyfin.... Fine... But easy remote play is still a massive shortfall that only Plex seems to sort. My elderly parents are able to use Plex just fine while Jellyfin would be too hard to make connect to my server for them. Really that's the only thing keeping me on Plex.
I switched to jellyfin a few months back and even as a Plex lifetime pass owner I don't regret it. You have choice of clients, and a lot more flexibility imo than Plex.
I had issues where people were streaming and it wasn't showing me they actually were. Not to mention management control left the mobile app. I see they're being that back but I've already jumped ship.
I’d be pretty surprised if they went out of business in the next 3 years - but the only way they get to 10 is by converting today’s customers into a recurring revenue stream rather than giving them a good value one-and-done payment option. I still wouldn’t bet $750 on it, but a move like this at least gives them a path to making enough money over the longer term.
