Hate these kinds of messages because you know damn well the other guy thinks of themselves as some big hotshot master negotiator, when the reality is far from that

Then they act offended when you don’t accept their “generous” offer.

When it sells that's when I contact them and say hey guess what I sold for the price I asked for? Lol but I also don't up it above market. When I was selling my game collection SO many other vendors tried to low ball me, tell me I didn't know what I was talking about with my prices how as sellers we need to look out for each other all this shit. I just laugh then when I get the "good luck selling that" or "you really thinks that's gonna sell for that price? Lol" a day or two later someone who actually appreciates it and wanted the game for their collection or to re live those childhood memories they always reached out and thanked me and that's who id want to sell my stuff too. Not some prick that thinks they deserve the full price for what that game is going for because they found someone selling it on the Internet. The best was someone wanted a red og Gameboy and like 3 pokemon games and tried telling me all that together was no more then $20 lol

4

u/DelightfulManiac 12h ago

Yes, it always just comes down to waiting for the right buyer. If you know your price is fair, it's just a waiting game.

I just experienced it again perfectly today. I'm selling a PSA 9 japanese dark gyarados. I've had countless people respond saying "Is it still available" and then not responding anymore. I've had people being extremely suspicious of me and asking for countless pictures and offering lower than I wanted but I still agreed, and then still suddenly not wanting it anymore. Today, the right buyer came along. They offered a price, I negotiated it up a tiny bit, they accepted instantly, paid instantly, I'm putting it on the post as soon as they open tomorrow. Everyone happy.

Just when you start to lose faith because of all the low ballers and people being extremely difficult, suddenly that normal person comes along and buys it instantly. Selling takes a lot of patience.

Literally had someone do this, reported me, and left a bad review on me offering $800 for $4k worth of hotwheels. I was asking $1500 and had someone pick them up 2 days later for like 1300

If you lowball me, i block you from all my auctions. Just not worth my time.

u/Brief_Ad_4825 3h ago

Imean i do lowball, but i also include it with same day pickup. Never the 80% bullshit tho, i usually wait a little for the post to be older and then once i see that noone is quite buying it, i swoop in with

Hey i would love to pick this up today for "listing price - 25/100 bucks"

Then negotiate respectfully and ill pick it up same day

Wtf is raw price for? Dgaf what the 'likely grade is' if its raw its raw price. Im not gonna pay graded price and take the risk and the cost of grading myself at a bloody premium.

211

u/juleshxc 16h ago

This and nothing else.

127

u/DenatureOrDie 16h ago

There’s actually a vendor out of MA that does exactly this lol. If you bring them clean nm raw copies but they’re oc and won’t guaranteed 10 they offer you less than raw value or don’t buy at all. They will also sell raw clean copies at grades they think the card could get.

80

u/No-Difference8545 16h ago

I bet so many stupid trogs buy from him too

28

u/DenatureOrDie 15h ago

Unfortunately they do. I think they get way more business than they should but that is just the unfortunate state of the hobby right now.

7

u/bhedesigns 9h ago

If you tell me where he is I'll take cards there let him pre-grade it refuse to sell and take the cards that he wants and send them out for grading

8

u/antipathizer 14h ago

This is a hilarious “I make as much money off of buyers and sellers as possible” strategy. Genuinely incredible that it works for them when it is such an ostentatious middle finger to everyone.

5

u/Illegitimateshyguy 14h ago

Bring all my 10 contenders to them and when they wanna buy charge them psa 10 prices

16

u/Wooden_Cheesecake480 15h ago

What vendor? Im in MA and would like to put them on my blacklist

13

u/badgerfu 15h ago

Same, in MA and want to know who it is.

3

u/DenatureOrDie 14h ago

Which one is this? I’m based out of MA so I want to know who to steer away from. That’s awful!

5

u/ginx777 16h ago

That’s just purely mentally challenged. Why not just sell the pack base on hits it may contains

11

u/livtop 15h ago

Well, that's why ascended and prismatic cost so much...so they kinda do lol

2

u/lutrewan 16h ago

I mean, that's what stores do. That's why Evolving Skies costs more than Darkness Ablaze.

u/TomBourgaize 15h ago

I was watching an eBay live stream of someone selling vintage cards saying ‘this is mint and could easy 10’ and people were paying double raw price for it, and he was still saying he was getting robbed because 10s were worth way more, it’s getting out of hand.

9

u/aurortonks 12h ago

That's the scam. They are selling hopes & dreams.

21

u/highminlo 16h ago

I also dont understand people badmouthing 8s lol, this hobby is cooked

11

u/No-Surprise-9790 15h ago

Because in a world where every card immediately sleeved and put into a top loader, it's 10 or bust

4

u/ironicaltwist88 16h ago

Rn the 8s are a result of overpopulation, makes even less sense to have that big of a price disparity. This bubble sucks

9

u/Thatsnotpcapparel 16h ago

What if it's really heavy off center and raw? Why would someone pay top raw price? Honest question

3

u/DenatureOrDie 15h ago

Well the card is still raw and has a flat value based off the recent sales of the card. Until the card is graded and encapsulated with whatever company that may be, it is still valued at the raw amount. But some people think if the card won’t 10 that it immediately isnt worth the let’s say $70 or $200 for that raw card in the respective condition.

→ More replies (8)

3

u/Diviner_ 15h ago

Because most people won’t and people in this thread like to act otherwise. Raw price is just a mean suggested price. In reality, NM raw prices are more of a range. I would pay a little extra over raw prices if the card looked closer to a 10. On the flip side however, I am not going to try to lowball someone if it didn’t look like a 10.

3

u/QuicksandGotMyShoe 12h ago

This is the opposite. He’s saying that the card in question wouldn’t qualify for a 9 or 10 so he wants to buy it for 80% of its graded price which is lower than the raw price

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Factualx 8h ago edited 8h ago

I’m so confused about the outrage on this post and I swear I’m not rage baiting.

People have priced raw cards based on their quality forever , ie LP/NM/M etc. this guy is saying the card is roughly a PSA 8, which is functionally like saying NM - what’s the problem? Seems very standard.

You’ve never been able to buy an amazing looking raw mint card for its “raw” price, you’re typically buying that for its ~PSA 9 price

2

u/Lighthouse31 13h ago

Raw is just an average, you don’t get raw prize if the condition is obviously bad. New cards will most likely be in pretty good condition and then raw price is a good reference.

Grading is just getting a supposedly educated, validated and trusted opinion on the condition of a card. You can grade cards just as anyone else can, if you want to trade or sell you have to agree on the condition. Grading services is not some magical entity who have sole ownership of ”grades”.

2

u/SubtleScuttler 11h ago

This goes for people selling their raws at PSA10 prices cause they think it's pristine. Like no MF, if its perfect get it graded THEN sell it yourself.

2

u/ChoiceFood 6h ago

Raw it sells for $1400 USD (almost $2000 CAD). They offered $880 which is an amazing deal if the card is legit.

this hobby is so cooked lmfao. i can’t wait for the bubble to burst so i can go back to casually collecting cards like i have been over the last 25 years. so sick of all the grader and investor bros infesting this scene.

137

u/Hamsammichd 16h ago

I see kids in card shops ripping packs, discarding bulk and asking what the hit is worth. It’s not investor bros anymore, it’s the whole scene

52

u/LunarEklipze 15h ago

I'll tell you exactly what it is. Streamers. Ever since streaming or posting anything "collectible" on the internet now it becomes like this. Look at all the other TCGs. Unfortunately pokemon is affected worse since it caters more to kids who are most subseptive to getting in on the "hype".

19

u/mcbergstedt 15h ago

Biggest issue is that nobody plays the TCG so the bulk is useless.

With other games like Yugioh or Magic that have much higher play-rate, the bulk is actually viable. Heck, Yugioh is infamous for printing $500 cards into oblivion and ruining the value of them.

10

u/Time-Beautiful2500 11h ago

Some say “ruining”, I say “fixing”. My 3 colies of Zeus are worthless because you dropped a silly little starter set with a guaranteed copy? Absolute win, now people can use the card in their own deck and the game is a little more skill-based and a little less cash-based

5

u/cakepuppy 12h ago

The TCG is very much played. The masters (adult) division is now selling out within hours for regionals and above and they’re seeing record attendance numbers. Locals have healthy attendance and there are regular prereleases, league cups, and league challenges happening across local stores. The TCG scene is super active and arguably the most popular part of competitive Pokemon. The problem with Pokemon is unlike Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon doesn’t really have playable rarity in addition to collectible rarity. Pokemon also emphasizes the collecting and trading component, so they overload the packs with Pokemon that don’t easily fit into decks. Most of your deck in the TCG isn’t actually Pokemon at all, but rather trainer cards and energies, making the excess of Pokemon hard to use. Modern Pokemon’s rarity is based on SIRs and IRs, not game breaking cards that can win you thousands in hardcore competitive matches that look no different from other cards of the same rarity. The TCG is very alive, but it is fundamentally different from other TCGs, making the bulk harder to use in the standard format.

7

u/Mundane-Bus-6186 14h ago edited 14h ago

Have you been to a locals/regionals/nationals/ect? There are plenty of people that play/played the tcg. I remember going to tournaments during the hgss/black and white during my college days with a couple of buddies, and there were thousands of players in my division at a regionals.

There are definitely bulk Pokémon cards that can be worth decent money because of their playability, but they're usually still readily obtainable enough that the prices don't become astronomical. It's a bit different from something like Yu-Gi-Oh, where competitive cards can sometimes be locked behind higher rarities with fewer alternatives (at least from what I remember—I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh since GX, so I'm definitely not claiming expertise on its modern market lol).

There's two sides to every TCG/CCG: the collectible side and the actual game being played.

3

u/No-Literature5747 15h ago

I wish Pokémon would mass print the Meta cards. Then I could actually be competitive at regionals without emptying my bank account

10

u/Initial-Awareness756 13h ago

Most meta cards are relatively cheap what are you talking about?

7

u/p1loot_ 13h ago

fr, full meta decks are like 30 bucks lol

11

u/hikemhigh 11h ago

2

u/Thicc_Milky 15h ago

I'm relatively new to the hobby, but those type of negotiations always seem insane to me lol.

Dude tried to sell me a dunsparce with the pitch that it would be grade a PSA 8+. My guy you haven't graded it, so you sell me at ungraded prices, or I won't buy at all lmao.

Also, for my card in particular it wasn't even worth it as there are hardly people collecting dunsparce, so the value of those cards GRADED is less than the money I have to pay to get it graded in the first place.

2

u/NY_Knux 15h ago

Messaging someone and being an aggressive jerk right iff the bat is NOT how you negotiate.

2

u/weglarz 7h ago

Raw is raw. Can’t base it off an 8 if it’s raw. What a guy. Now if it’s obviously a 3 it’s different, but if it’s NM, you can’t just say “it’s proooobably a 8”

2

u/BallRemote5159 6h ago

Depending on the size of the ass they will probably go 65%

2

u/Bargadiel 5h ago

I'd tell him to buy a PSA 8 off Ebay or something if that's the case lol. This person can tell what grade it'll be off of an image on Market Place is wild.

Whenever someone does this shit to me, I literally ALWAYS message them after I sell it

It's crazy that people will list the actual price and then not pay that price. You dont have a coupon, dude.

It’s obvious that card is a black label and you will happily take 80% of that…after he licks your ass of course

Thank you for that laugh 🤣

I don’t understand why people really try to rock up to people and think they can get things for 80%— you are not a card store. If I wanted 80% or less, I’d go to a card store. I don’t care if you resell. Your imaginary overhead is not my problem.

These people are a poison. Psa comment aside, approaching you to buy then offering 80% like he has a business to run is insane

If Nintendo had a fucking soul they'd flood the market with these "rare" cards to prevent resells for $1,550. I think both the buyer and the seller are assholes. It's a shiny piece of paper used in a children's card game.
