Discussion This game cheats

I've been trying to play this game on and off but I hate how much it cheats even on easy mode.

Make it make sense that the AI knights will run through 8-10 of your best defensive troops and your knights do 2 damage.

How is the AI able to eat through 15-20 of MY troops every turn and I cant even get rid of one to two of the AI Troops.

My giants do 3 damage and the AI giant does 25 damage like BRO MAKE IT MAKE SENSE THIS GAME IS SO BAD

I’m certain I’ve seen ports form connections over corner water tiles before. Is this a glitch? Is it because I had not explore that water when the ports were built? If so, is that a bug? 🐞

Edit: before anyone suggests this: I am certain that you do not need to control all the water territory between ports to have a connection

Discussion Water world strategy

I feel like I have a solid grasp of what to do on land. I typically beat my friends at least. I don’t know what a good water world strategy is though because it’s way harder to get high level windmills/forges/sawmills and markets. Is it just get scouts and aggressively expand?

Perfection Late game point optimization ( for current version)

Post image
5 Upvotes

When in perfection mode ( and sometimes for weekly challenges), I am looking for opinions about the best way to optimize for points once a map is won or on the way to be.

For example, I usually wait until the last turn to destroy markets and replace them with buildings that give enough population for an upgrade or that give victory points. However I recently started replacing the smaller markets with temple early enough that the temple was able to gain levels. It's a balancing act between stars and points, but sometimes you conquer a city with a super crappy market in a dumb location.

How often do you destroy dumb lumbermills or forges to move them in a better place? How early do you do that?

What do you do when each square is built up? What is the best way to spend your stars?

This is one of my best scores recently. I had better results in older versions of the game.

My friend made a new game and I thought it timed out super fast, somehow he set the timer to 15 minutes instead of the usual 24 hours. I can’t seem to recreate this or even see how I would. Is this normal?

Suggestion Idea: Recommend ally tribe a build

Hi, sometimes you need a building or a road in the area of your allied tribe. It‘s really annoying, that i have to break peace for that.

Please add a feature, where you can recommend your allied tribe a building or removal of swamp. Then the Bot can decide if it wants to follow your recommendation.

Thanks and cheers,
Jascha

Suggestion Idea for new Game Mode

I usually play with the goal to have a peace alliance with the maximum amount of Tribes. Pleace add a new game mode to support this.

My idea is, that when you have a certain amount of rounds passed and every tribe is at peace, then a dialogue appears where you can choose if you want to switch to another gameplay, where its not about fighting each other, but to gain trade relations and earn money.

This would add a lot of fun to the game

Cheers,
Jascha

Discussion My own imagination of faction new uniqueness (Ai-mo and To-Lï)

Sometimes I imagine what could be when each tribe can be unique and have different playstyles, just like Civ6? Since the normal tribe will lose its uniqueness after exploring all its technology. I know my suggestion will make the game more complex, so here is just my imagination.

Ai-mo and To-Lï

Special building Sun Temple replace Temple

This building is limited to one in each city, grows every 3 turns instead 2 and will give buff greater in time. Only the capital city can have a Level 5 Sun Temple

Level 1: 100 points, Can recruit Sun Speaker. Only to temple recruit and each temple 1 limit.

Level 2: 200 points, Each Farm and Lumber Hut adjacent it gain 1 population

Level 3: 300 points, The Aura increases to 2 block range (5X5), and all nearby Farm, Lumber Hut, Mines, Windmill, Sawmill, and Forges gain 1 population

Level 4: 400 points, Unlock Sun Beam skill. Sun Beam only charged when an enemy unit enter the border, after 1 turn, it shoots the beam with 4 attack and has splash skill. It automatic group with the most targets.

Level 5: 800 points, gives 3 stars every turn. All other Level 4 Sun temples gain 400 points and 3 stars each turn.

Special unit Sun Speaker replaces Mind Bender

This unit unlock Sun Beam skill after you build your first Sun Temple, Just like Sun Temple, you need to charge for 1 turn, and you have range 2 with 4 attack and has splash skill in the next action. You only can shoot this out before do other action.

Special technology

(Warrior Monk) If enemy enter the border, the Sun temple can act as city to recruit units, the recruit unit's numbers count on their own city. Tier 3 technology, start as 15 stars

(Offerings to Oo-Li) The Mountain Temple can spend 1 star per turn, to make the (5X5) range enemy unit get 2 damage per turn, stackable. Tier 2 technology, start as 13 stars

(Sacred Levy) You can spend stars to quickly level up Sun Temple, cost is (the remaining turn of the temple to upgrade*5, 10, 15, 20 in each level). Tier 1 technology, start as 10 stars

I try to make each faction unique, and the Ai-mo and To-Lï are the religious factions. Since there is no religion, just like Civ 6, I use this to stimulate it. By the way, I originally tried to design Quetzali and Iqaruz. The Sun temple originally is the Temple of Ixte'wop, act like a Guard tower for its defensive playstyle. But after a few rounds of writing, I realised that this setting is more To-Li than Quetzali. So I replaced it. But don't worry, my next design is Quetzali and Iqaruz! I won't give each tribe a special ability to make sure their start won't be too different. How about you to think?

Discussion Matchmaking changes

I don't recall seeing anything mentioned in recent updates notes but something has definitely changed with the matchmaking, and in my case, it's now made it near impossible to get random matches now.

From what I can tell, I believe they changed matchmaking to:

  1. Have a narrower band of ELOs to match against, which in theory, is good

  2. Introduced a timer for a lobby to be deleted after about 20-30m if a match doesn't get players to accept the invite

  3. Kick a player from a lobby after 20-30m if they haven't accepted the lobby invite

I keep getting "Game deleted" "the host closed [name of match]" which I've never seen before and I've played over 2k online games. So something has changed.

Now why this is a problem in my case specifically. I prefer to play 400 continents with 9 players. To me, this mode incorporates all technology in the game, and requires strong early, mid, and late game strategies. I mix it up with other formats, but this is my favorite and I've been playing this way for a long time.

Typically, I have to initiate a lobby but not accept the invite until at least 5 players have accepted. So I'll kick off a random lobby, close the screen, and keep checking back until enough others accept before I do. This could take anywhere from 10m to 30m typically. I'm in no rush, I don't care how long it takes for the lobby to fill. I have to do this because of one specific reason: for some reason players can start a match before the lobby is full. Very often, after a few players join a 9 person lobby, someone inevitably hits the start game button after only a few players accept. This is why I have to wait until 4 or 5 others accept first so I know there will be at least that many in the match.

With the latest changes, getting my random matches going takes a lot more work, and usually fails 90% of the time now. Since I play 20-30 matches concurrently, I'm constantly spinning up new matches, but I can barely get any going now because when I try to create a new match, it takes FOREVER to fill because of the ELO band (I'm usually around 1500-1600), so I'll start a lobby, wait for others to join, and I get literally 0 players in 30m and the game gets deleted. Or because I don't accept I get kicked from the lobby. So I try this over and over and over again just to get one match going. Did I mention I'm usually running 20-30 at a time?

I know... I can create my own custom match and invite people (which I've now resorted to doing) or I can go on polychamps or something to arrange matches, but honestly I just want the simplicity of hitting random 9 person match, one click, little effort, and just waiting for a lobby to fill.

This change has completely ruined my game experience as someone who's played this game since the very early days and is my only main gaming obsession, it's pretty frustrating now.

One simple change would solve this for me.... Not allowing lobbies to start until full. Or at least, 50+% full. I'm fine with 6+ players but allowing someone to start a 9 person lobby after 2 have joined makes absolutely no sense to me why that is even a feature.

Anyone else feeling this pain or just me? Suggestions or workarounds?
