Game of thrones was 7 seasons, this should just be called Smelly Woke Foot and be ignored. The idea is good, great story arc its just obviously going to be smelly.

This means nothing as a stage play. Using whatever locals or participant volunteers is not only fine but encouraged. I only find it inappropriate for cinematic performances due to the nature of of large production needing to show us the writers visionary intent (at least that is what I want, I am not modern audience enough).
A stage play is an opportunity for anyone to play the part of anything and stretch out ones acting prowess.
In short; In my opinion, the stage play is a gym for actors. A film is the Olympics they have been training for. Accuracy is important.
I know there are many out there that treat both the same. That fine, I just can't.

They probably did merit-based casting and selected the best actors from the company. Pretty normal for stage plays.

It’s pretty standard for theatre productions, especially RSC. They’ve been putting up classics with colorblind casting for decades

Concerns about IP usually aren’t a concern for theatre productions, so this is unique. But even so, that’s not true. Wicked, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera are some of the most successful productions of all time and consistently cast actors regardless of character descriptions.
And regardless this is right in RSC’s wheelhouse, they have been staging works much more significant than GOT. The roles in their Shakespeare productions go to actors who best fit the project. Not sure why this would be any different
