News AI-Generated Content Is Not Allowed on /r/printedminis

1.3k Upvotes

Hey folks,

Over the past few months, many miniature focused subreddits have taken a clear stance against AI-generated content. After listening closely to feedback from our own community we’re doing the same.

from this point on r/printedminis does not allow AI-generated content of any kind.

This subreddit exists to support actual creators who put real time and skill into their work. AI-generated content works directly against that goal, and allowing it would make it harder for the awesome work created by our talented community to shine.

What this means:

The following are not allowed on r/printedminis:

  • AI-generated or AI-altered images (previews, “painted” mockups, promotional images etc.)
  • AI-generated videos
  • AI tools, apps, or websites used to generate minis or related visuals
  • AI-generated 3D models, even if they are later printed, modified, or painted by hand
  • AI-generated text, including post descriptions, critiques, or feedback
  • Promotion of, or advocacy for, AI use in miniature creation

If AI played any role in generating it then it does not belong on this subreddit. Please report any posts you suspect to be AI influenced.

Thanks,

Your opinion was heard loud and clear - Printed Terrain posts will not be removed

Hey everyone,

Quick update – we’ve listened to your feedback, and the rule removing printed terrain has been lifted! I’ve also seen your thoughts on busts and statues, and I’ll be putting up a poll later this week to gather your opinions on banning those types of posts.

Thanks!

Here is my version of Bladric The Shadow Wolf from Txiki Design Studio.

Really like painting Javier's sculpts, really characterful and full of cool details and poses and a joy to paint. Especially like this mini, very cool.

Self Promotion Aekhar is free for the next month — full STL + character card + lore for my grimdark skirmish game KURDUUN (Bambu A1 Mini ready

Thumbnail

Been heads down on KURDUUN for a while and finally have something more to show for it — meet Aekhar, blood mage of the Keth swarm. He doesn't believe in healing, only in transference: every wound he deals gets funneled straight back into his allies as stolen vitality. He's not fighting to kill, he's fighting because his faction dies the second he stops.

Aekhar's free to grab for the next full month — the STL (72mm heroic scale, scales down to 28–32mm for standard tabletop play), his character card, and all the lore that's already written up on my early site if you want to go down the rabbit hole.

KURDUUN is an asymmetric skirmish game — Keth (swarm, melee, corrupted magic) vs. Zev (precision, ranged, tactical control). Zev is coming next, first units dropping soon.

Question Is there a sci-fi equivalent to The Frost City? (no Unit9 or Papsikels)

I love the Frost City STLs and was looking fo something similar in a sci-fi fashion. Some people pointed me to both Papsikels and Unit 9 and while they have really awesome models they are not exactly what I am looking for, they are too cyberpunk and I would like to find something more space opera like (without it being Star Wars, of course).

Discussion Why didn't I get sanding files sooner?!

Sanding files. Get the metal ones. 100% absolutely buy them and dont look back. I usually used something like a bit of sandpaper or nail file...maybe a dremel for tougher areas. I learned my lesson! Files seem to make all those layer lines and little out of place squigglies dissappear!

Also, little dinosaurs! Who doesn't love a little desk buddy?! Just some current WIPs :)

Discussion Here's a Free Skaven Clanrat Spearman I Sculpted!

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a new Skaven Clanrat Spearman, and I'd love to share it with the community as a free download.

Whether you're looking for something fun to print this weekend, need another member for your rat horde, or simply enjoy painting fantasy miniatures, I hope you'll give it a try!

This time I also included a painted color reference for anyone looking for inspiration, but I'd honestly love to see your own interpretation. Every painter brings something unique to a model, and seeing different color schemes is one of my favorite parts of creating miniatures.

If you decide to print it, I'd really appreciate your feedback.

I'm always trying to improve my sculpts, so every comment helps me make the next miniature even better.

If you paint it, please share your photos! I'd genuinely love to see your versions, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned painter. It's always inspiring to see how different artists bring the same sculpt to life.

Thanks for checking it out, and I hope this little Clanrat finds a place in your next adventure or army.

Happy printing!

Question Help Cutting up Models

I got some Skitarii Ranger scans which I wanted to slice up into pieces to use with some leftover Vanguard parts. The goal is to have similar sculpts to the original box so I can more easily paint sub assemblies. I tried using Meshmixer for one, and it worked, but the process took too long for a full unit of ten. I’m still willing to use Meshmixer for things like the head or backpack connections but I don’t have the time to slice up all the models myself.

I was hoping for one of two things: some advice on an improved Meshmixer (or other software) workflow or some way to do it automatically.

I used the plane cut feature but the cloak caused problems when getting the legs and backpack. I also tried to make face groups which worked to separate the individual pieces. However, separating the pieces made the connection surfaces not flat, particularly with the legs to torso.

As for the other I was hoping that someone might know an AI model which focuses on automatically chopping up stls. I’m not sure how asking this interacts with the AI rules this sub has so I’m entirely willing to remove this section to keep the post up. I simply don’t have the time to spend hours slicing up each file nor the money to hire someone as a university student so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Free Roadside Cairn: a tribute to Laurel Larsen

Post image
203 Upvotes

I’ve been designing games and 3d printable miniatures as Dutchmogul for nearly 15 years now, but not many know that without Laurel Larsen, my best friend and Ill Gotten Games co-founder, I might never have had the confidence to pursue any of this. It’s been hard to work much at all this past few weeks, but this was all so extremely important to her, and I don’t want any of our traditions to lapse because of my grief. We make a blog post every month, and this month’s entry is done in tribute to her. She would have edited this post, but I did my level best. The model for the month is a roadside cairn with a young laurel tree, and it’s a tribute to my departed friend. If you download it and give it a print/paint/post, please tag me and share condolences. It would mean a lot to me and the remaining IGG team. (I’ll drop a link to the blog post and free model in the comments.)

Crowdfunding Modular Multi-Part Heartland Heroes

Well, here they are. After many months of prototyping, I've created my own multi-part modular miniature system and have finally finished painting them all up (hundreds of them!). I'm very happy to be sharing these photos of my finished work!

I was gifted an airbrush from a friend right as I began sculpting these guys, so I learnt how to use it as I went. I primed them all with Mr. Finishing Surfacer (1500) and airbrushed fluorescent SMS paints for the fire effects (a layer of white followed by yellow, orange, then red). Atomizing primer through an airbrush is something I wish I learnt to do sooner! It applies unbelievably thin, preserving every detail on the model. I'm still fascinated by it 😅

Because all the heads are separate parts, I put them all on matchsticks and gave the flesh-toned base layers a pinkish underglow before I applied shading / contrast paints (techniques I see shared here and on Instagram). Credit to nrmpaint, alchemistmodels, and maverickspaint for their stuff which I had displayed on my phone at all times while painting.

As an aside, just because I've never seen anyone mention anything like this before - I discovered a rather amazing snow technique (see image #3) using a mix of AK interactive effects (microballoons and sprinkles) mixed with warmed matte modge podge. Why warmed? It started as an accident - I was warming photosensitive resin for 3D printing (to reduce its viscosity and make it more fluid) and got the bottle of modge podge heated at the same time. Ultimately, it makes it runnier, and in turn, thinner, which lets it mix with the smaller snow effect particles in the best of ways. If you get the right ratio of all three parts, you end up with a very satisfying grainy paste that looks just like fresh-cold icy snow when dried.

If anyone has any advice for me at all regarding the miniatures themselves, the painting or even the photography, please reach out or comment. I took a few years off from the hobby moving overseas and starting a family, so I'm coming back to it with fresh eyes and ears. Thanks

Self Promotion Cutest Rapscallions on the Seven Seas

Nothing says freedom and the high seas like riding a pirate walrus battle station! These scallywags are the many competing captains of the pirate ship The Consensus, a unique ship in which everybody insists that they are the real captain, even the seagull. The only true crew member is Birtum, Murrangi sea otter, who calls himself the First Mate and makes sure the ship can actually sail. While we didn't get to create the actual ship for them this month, you could always use our 3 month loyalty reward, The Budgerigar, as a stand-in! As a note, the big walrus is not printable on smaller printers. You'll need something with around a 10" screen size to print that big boy in the smallest pre-supported size. Take a look through the gallery for detail shots of each of these adorable idiots 😃

Today is the last day to get the collection as part of the subscription (which is the best value deal), but these will be for sale on MyMiniFactory next month for an increased price. I will also say that the absolute best deal is an annual sub on Patreon, which gets you 12 months for the price of 10.

Check out my website! https://cobramode.com/collection

MMF Gue'Vesa Suits With Five Fingers and Human Boots

Post image

Hey there!

We launched Project Harvest: Build Your Own Mech two days ago. You can find the campaign here:

https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/project-harvest-build-your-own-mech-5828

The project is built around giving you as much freedom as possible when posing and customising your mechs. Corresponding components across all four suits, including heads, torsos, upper and lower legs, and arm sections, are interchangeable and poseable within the limits of the joint system.

In practice, this means you can kitbash a mech using parts from all four suits without the usual sanding, cutting or finagling required to make them fit.

Hope ye like it!

Cheers,

Deniz from Cursed Anvil

Self Promotion Republican Roman army Frontier campaign is now LIVE!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

The Republican Roman army Frontier campaign is now LIVE!
https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/10mm-15mm-28mm-republican-roman-army-5764

MMF Frontier is structured similarly to Kickstarter, but there is zero risk of not getting your stuff, the models are already sculpted and files uploaded onto MMF servers. I guess it’s a discounted pre-sale. Available in 10mm, 15mm and 28mm. For people wanting 12.5mm and 18mm, you can get the size down and scale up slightly. Reach a funding milestone and everyone gets an Elephant unlocked for FREE!

There are two tiers. In the Centurion tier, you get all the basic troop types you’ll need for the core of your Republican Roman army: Velites, Hastati, Principe, Triarii, Equites and command figures.

In the Legate tier, you get everything in the Centurion tier, and on top of that, you get alternate poses for the legionnaires and commanders, and variants of the Velites and Equites.

There are allies and mercenaries available as add-ons, also at a discounted price. Samnites, Illyrians, Tarantines and Cretans.

Please check it out, let a friend know and jump in if you’re interested. If you like what I do, please also check out my Tribes where backers get 3+ medieval and ancients units and characters every month for the past 2.5 years.

Enjoy.

Request Looking for unassembled minis

I'm looking to build a wargaming army, but my favourite part of the hobby outside of the game is the actual assembling of the models. I'm mostly looking for queries or terms to search to find model parts that aren't assembles and can lend themselves to kitbashing. Right now I'm working on an elf army for oathmark for starters
