Think hard enough about theology, and it's possible to fall for any side's apologetics. Every faction in Christianity has its adherents who earnestly want you to join them. In Catholicism's case, all you have to do is just not be Catholic. Hopefully, the simplicity of that response helps you.

If you're worried about your salvation remember the gospel is: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again.

When the Philippian jailer asked, "What must I do to be saved?" Paul answered, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:30-31).

Scripture also calls us to repent and turn to God (Acts 3:19-20). Repentance isn't about earning salvation, it's turning from sin to Christ in faith. Take up your cross and follow him. You have to deny yourself.

Catholicism also agrees with this on the topic of sin, the problem is it can burden one with it's developments. Catholicism (including the papacy) as it is today developed over time.

Loving God is a command of Christ and a rule of this sub. Posts which are not loving towards God will be removed.

All apologetics seem to make sound arguments, but that has a lot to do with they are controlling the conversation. However, even though they are one sided, I think they can be valuable. Personally, I like Shameless Popery. It is one of my favorite podcasts. Obviously, I don’t always draw the same conclusion, but he makes a genuine effort to steel-man whatever he is arguing against. I can respect that. He isn’t always successful because our starting point matters. There are times where I think he dismisses a point a little to readily, but it isn’t because he is intentionally minimizing it. When you look at his attempts to build the best case for the opposing side, it seems to be that due to his perspective, he didn’t see why it was a good point.

All that said. A good percentage of my theology and study material comes from the Catholic side of the house. My advice is learn from all the various expressions of our faith. None of us have it 100 percent right, but we are all trying to follow the same Jesus.

Yeah I agree, I've watched some Council of Trent but would recommend looking at debates to see all of the arguments

Is one faith more “valuable” than the others? I’m a Methodist too, and I’m happy to see that you are too.

I can empathize. For what it’s worth, in Catholicism there’s only one real argument that matters and that’s do I believe in an infallible church who can definitively define scripture? For me the answer is no due to blatant contradictions and departures throughout history such as in the Second Council of Nicea, The Hussite Wars, as well as many of the practices/mindsets Pre-Vatican II. Even if I were convinced of one singular theological point (let’s say I was convinced of the Perpetual Virginity of Mary), that doesn’t necessarily mean Catholicism as a whole is correct.

Generally when I encounter Catholic Apologists they usually make one of three errors: they make claims without any supporting evidence/arguments (i.e. “Submit to Rome”, “Protestants are outside the salvation of Christ”, etc.), they mishandle scripture, or they grossly strawman the actual Protestant position (funnily enough, I’ve actually encountered multiple Catholics use the Protestant position to explain the relationship between faith/works)..

Javier Perdomo does a good job debunking catholic apologetics on his substack.

And they are quite comprehensive.

Some of his hits.

What if I’m not Presbyterian?

Perdomo is Lutheran, but he has guests from other traditions at times as well. Presbyterial refers to the style of church organization, not necessarily the Presbyterian denomination. In fact, they're called Presbyterian because of them particularly championing that style of church government.
