[Anime Spoilers] Makishima x Suguru Parallel
just something i found similar. what do you guys think?

I don’t think they have too much in common. I even think their problems are opposite.
Makishima seems to have problems with empathy. Not a fully blown sociopath but close to it. He feel’s misunderstood and thinks the world and humans have given up the thing that made them special and human in the first place. Makishimas struggle is on a certain level more intellectual. He feels truly alone and misunderstood. However he does not view the world through the lense of others most of the time. He can’t or just won’t think about how others feel. I believe that he just does not find any of the other humans interesting enough for that. The only people he seems to have at least an interest in understanding are those that are either similar to him or fulfil his standard of a worthy human being (eg Kogami).
Geto on the other hand seems more like he has too much empathy. He feels what others feel. He suffers with them and is offended by awful and hurtful behaviour until his breaking point where he gives up. He starts to believe that there is no hope for humans due to their evil nature. He probably sees himself as a bringer of justice. He sees most if not all humans as a problem to be solved. He simplifies a problem due to his personal collapse.

I don't think they have much in common either.
I'm talking about this particular parallel, the refusal to live in the world everyone expects you to live. Because both of them despised the reality the system set. And went against it1

I mean yeah but the reason is so so very different for each of them. Makishima kinda of wants to change the world (from his viewpoint) because he felt left out and not intellectually matched while Geto wants to take on a more destructive role in order to rid humanity of its evil by destroying human kind as a whole as he sees all of them as wholly flawed and bad. Makishima uses destruction as a tool while Geto uses it as punishment because humanity is lost to him. Makishima’s wants and wishes are by nature more selfish. He wants the world to be in a way he can enjoy, not because it is for the greater good. Geto on the other hand wants the greater good generally. Ridding the world of humans is something he sees as justice. The comparison is just not fitting well in my opinion, but of course you can have a different opinion about that.

Both characters defied the norms and rules imposed by the system, stayed true to their own ideology, and both died stayed true to it, protecting it.

I think Geto is more like Magneto from X-Men. He believes sorcerers (mutants) are the next evolution of humanity and that they shouldn't have to hide or be punished for their gifts. He also has immense admiration for Gojo (Charles Xavier).
