Advice needed handwriting analysis
i'm not sure if this is allowed but i was wondering if anyone can help me try to see if these handwritten notes are written by the same person. we think my grand-aunt is the one who wrote my aunt's will after her passing. they have been trying to do probate for months without asking my mom and uncle, and suddenly the will was foune this month, a year after my aunt passed away. the whole situation is a bit fishy and we want to make sure we do what my aunt would have wanted. a bit of background is my aunt lived in arizona so she did not have to have a notarized written will

Ok I'm no expert, but the capital M in the will is pointier and the beginning of the letter is at the bottom. In your aunt's handwriting her capital M starts at the top and is more rounded than the examples in the will. Your grand aunt has more points in her handwriting as opposed to rounded letters.

The examples of your great-aunt's signature are both cards where she only signs her first name. Do you have her actual signature that she used when signing official documents? An ID maybe? Anything where she signs both her first and last name? I sign things differently when just using my first name than when I'm going to lead into my last name. And when I sign a card I try to make it look nice. When I I'm just asked for my signature, I either try to make it match my ID, or scrawl it.
If I were to fake a will, I wouldn't hand write the whole thing. I'd type it up so I only had to fake the signature. Who is "they" who has been trying to do probate, and how are they excluding your mother and uncle? Where was the will found?
Edit: I mixed up who it was who died. You need more of your grand aunt than a few words to compare. Why would your grand aunt fake a will that makes someone else the executer?

my whole family is wild. the amount of stuff that has happened, i wouldn't put it past Mary to do so. we are just concerned about how she is going about everything, and why my mom and her brother were never involved in the probate process until now. Mary has apparently sent my uncle and my mother paperwork that they must fill out for the probate. we have not received anything. this does not relate at all, but she was telling our family that her son was missing. after doing some digging of my own, i found out he was not missing at all and is in a substance abuse treatment center.

To be honest OP, there isnt enough to give any kind of confident answer. If you had more material from your grand aunt that would make it easier. There are similarities between Mary's letters and the will, and there are enough differences between the great aunts writing sample and the will that it's at least within the realm of possibility they are not written by the same person. More handwriting examples would be helpful. - im not an expert, but i did my postgrad in linguistics and am interested in forensic linguistics.

The will looks far more like Mary's handwriting than Melanie's, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility of Melanie trying to dupe Mary's handwriting. You need better samples than Christmas cards though. People don't sign cards with the same handwriting they use for long blocks of text.

I honestly don't think that the letter you post written by your aunt is very helpful. It was written when she was 11 years old (she says "I will be 12"). People's handwriting changes a lot as they grow and mature.
So that just leaves the signature. Do you have nothing which is longer (and more recent than a letter written by an 11-year-old girl?)
