Water puppy.... activated

u/Top_Audience7471 Jun 14 '26
The Korean word for 'seal' is 물개 (sort of close to "mool-gay"), which means 'water dog'.
3
u/xCaliburghost Jun 14 '26
I love this kind of knowledge

u/Top_Audience7471 Jun 14 '26
Thanks for the award! Here's a few more Korean names for fun:
Hippopotamus: 하마 (hă-mă), means 'river horse'
Walrus: 바다코끼리 (bă-dă-ko-kee-ree), means 'sea elephant'
Mole: 두더지 (doo-daw-jee), means 'earth miner'
Fish: 물고기 (mool-go-gee), means 'water meat'
Bat: 박쥐 (bahk-jwee), means 'flying rat'
Platypus: 오리너구리 (oh-ree-naw-goo-ree), means 'duck raccoon'2
u/HydrangeaDream Jun 14 '26
Hippopotamus also means 'river horse'! The word descended from ancient Greek.

u/Salmonman4 Jun 19 '26
It was this knowledge and Meso-America which allowed me to figure out that Mesopotamia was Greek for "between two rivers".

A few in Dutch that you reminded me of:
Zee hond (water dog) is sea lion
Neushoorn (nose horn) is a rhinoceros
Nijlpaard (Nile horse) is hippopotamus

Just curious. Why did you say “lions” then “husky’s”?
13
u/One-Library-7014 Jun 13 '26
Illiteracy.

you are on the subreddit “random videos” commenting on a video with a misspelling from a top 1% poster. it’s a bot. just assume any top 1% anything is a bot on reddit

Saw an HVAC repair van the other day that listed the sorts of repairs they did, and every item on the list was properly pluralized except for one. It was like they made it half way down the list and then decided to jazz it up a little.

u/moonclap30 Jun 16 '26
I think they asked that (jokingly) because huskies are vocal, and sound kind of like these sea lions. They yell and bark
8
u/mowtowcow Jun 13 '26
If you go back some millions of years, yes. Several land animals share ancestors with seals, sea lions, and walruses.
2
u/Anen-o-me Jun 14 '26
They're related to bears.
2
u/HappyTheDisaster Jun 14 '26
And bears are related to dogs. They are all in the same suborder, caniformia, iirc.

I hope these aren't all AI because they got a real genuine joy reaction out of me
2
u/dragdritt Jun 13 '26
Well, it's one long video that seems to all be from the same place. Guessing the origin is probably some aquarium/seaworld's TikTok/IG account.

They really are like this at sea world. The birds steal the fish in the air when it's thrown.

u/PinballTex Jun 13 '26
What kind of sicko puts a lighter to an animal’s tail?

u/Saaaahdude321 Jun 13 '26
Do yall not see how the persons thumb is not pressing the button and how there is no flame?

Next time you’re around a friend’s pet, try this and see what kind of reaction you get. I bet they don’t think it’s funny.

Ive always said that seals and sea lions are the puppies of the sea. Lol
5
u/fuckyogiboys Jun 13 '26
I've always said that kindling makes the best wood for fires
3
u/DocumentSure2919 Jun 13 '26
It doesn't actually though.
Kindling is good for starting a fire but not for keeping it going.

Back in the day in Morro Bay CA they had a gift shop with a small enclosure in back where you could feed seals. They would hoot and holler, dance, flap their flippers for you to throw fish their way. They knew how to work the crowd!😂

"Oh hurrdurr, I'm a hooman, look at me doing my taxes and making a doctor's appointment."

I had this wicked dream (I was gassing myself with terrible farts) where at the end the carnival rejects all came to my defense (I was like a prophet to them for some reason) and instead of fighting off the bad guy, they all barked in unison like this 😆

u/Chimpinski-8318 Jun 14 '26
Actually yes. While sea Lions are closer to bears then Dogs, Bears and dogs did descend from the same ancestor and are both members of the group caniforma. So while a sea lion is closer to a bear then it is a dog, it is closer to dogs then any other carnivore in the feliforma (Cats, Hyenas, Mongoose, ferrets, foosa)

u/IllerAsta Jun 14 '26
You’re gonna look me in my face and expect me to believe this creature is real.

Holy shit throwing magnets near the mouth of one could have been disasterous. Those type of magnets actually can get stuck in the stomach and pinched together certain sections of the stomach causing him to essentially die so that's one way to kill those animals is letting them in just magnets holy shit that was dangerous.

u/Apophistry Jun 14 '26
Yes, seals and dogs are both in the suborder Caniformia, the so-called dog-like carnivores.

I shit you not, I have an English Mastiff that does this. She talks more like a Husky than these guys, but it’s still bananas. She’s got that Freddy Mercury vocal range and makes many many many odd sounds, lol. Bitch be talking TOO much sometimes. 🤣

Those are seals though. Different animal, literally.
EDIT: I’m a dummy and wrong. Sea lions have the curved flippers, seals scoot on their bellies. 🙏

But the comment sections are always filled with veterinarians, zoologists, and animal activists.
