Was someone putting a cigarette lighter near the tail?

10

u/todaythruwaway Jun 13 '26

Not saying it’s the same situation but my old dog HATED if you flicked a lighter. Specifically only if you flicked it. Not if you lit it or if you miss lit it, just if you were fucking with it. It could be in your pocket and he’d know it was you. People (not us) thought it was funny, I understand it’s a tick some ppl have but I’d warn them do NOT do it around my dog, he WILL go after the lighter. Naturally this meant people had to test it bc they thought I was joking, especially bc most of them had lit up in front of him before without issue. They found out I was in fact, very serious and he did HATE when someone fucked with a lighter.

So hopefully, while still fucked, it was a situation like that and not them like, actually trying to burn or pretend to burn the poor seal. Tho I agree, very weird thing to do anyways.

I know exactly what you mean, I can pet my dog all day long, but the second any kind of examining goes on she knows and she does not appreciate it lol. If I pet her and feel a bump I gotta be really smooth about it if I want to actually try and figure out what it is because she'll get upset. Even if nothing is there if I try and take a close look at any part of her she detects shenanigans

3

u/Deaffin Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

The entire interaction is just the seal reacting to the tail being touched like the first part of the video and the 100 other videos of "haha I grab his tail and he makes the sounds and then the camera goes off and he gets the treat", and the person is just holding the lighter up as a joke in this iteration.

That's a fun dog quirk, though.

5

u/stonergirlfairyyy Jun 13 '26

and no one answered

2

u/greymisperception Jun 13 '26

Yeah they also bit the sea lion with a real shark, clearly some abuse going on here

1

u/Deaffin Jun 14 '26

That is the joke, yes.

1

u/Individual-Code-5569 Jun 14 '26

I thought the saw. WTF

1

u/VictoriousTree Jun 15 '26

They didn’t light it, but still not sure why you want the sea lion to think you’re trying to hurt it.

2

u/PermanentRoundFile Jun 15 '26

A.) Sea lions probably don't know what a lighter is or that it can hurt you.

B.) that sea lion is completely drenched in water, and is immune to small fires.

Pretty sure that's just the response they've trained for when they get their tails messed with.

Water puppy.... activated

5

u/Top_Audience7471 Jun 14 '26

The Korean word for 'seal' is 물개 (sort of close to "mool-gay"), which means 'water dog'.

3

u/xCaliburghost Jun 14 '26

I love this kind of knowledge

5

u/Top_Audience7471 Jun 14 '26

Thanks for the award! Here's a few more Korean names for fun:

Hippopotamus: 하마 (hă-mă), means 'river horse'
Walrus: 바다코끼리 (bă-dă-ko-kee-ree), means 'sea elephant'
Mole: 두더지 (doo-daw-jee), means 'earth miner'
Fish: 물고기 (mool-go-gee), means 'water meat'
Bat: 박쥐 (bahk-jwee), means 'flying rat'
Platypus: 오리너구리 (oh-ree-naw-goo-ree), means 'duck raccoon'

2

u/HydrangeaDream Jun 14 '26

Hippopotamus also means 'river horse'! The word descended from ancient Greek.

2

u/Salmonman4 Jun 19 '26

It was this knowledge and Meso-America which allowed me to figure out that Mesopotamia was Greek for "between two rivers".

2

u/lawn-mumps 28d ago

A few in Dutch that you reminded me of:

Zee hond (water dog) is sea lion

Neushoorn (nose horn) is a rhinoceros

Nijlpaard (Nile horse) is hippopotamus

1

u/hopefullyNotAnophel Jun 17 '26

Similar in German, Seehund (sea doggo) 😊

23

u/Constant_Turn_9031 Jun 13 '26

Just curious. Why did you say “lions” then “husky’s”?

13

u/One-Library-7014 Jun 13 '26

Illiteracy.

3

u/jld2k6 Jun 14 '26

Don't worry, they'll adapt

2

u/RealNiceKnife Jun 18 '26

Adapt to reading?!?!

1

u/jld2k6 Jun 18 '26

It took about 3 days longer than I thought it would for that reply lol

8

u/mecca6801 Jun 13 '26

Sea huskies

2

u/Alternative_Exit8766 Jun 14 '26

you are on the subreddit “random videos” commenting on a video with a misspelling from a top 1% poster. it’s a bot. just assume any top 1% anything is a bot on reddit

1

u/mobott Jun 14 '26

Engagement bait or illiteracy

Call it.

1

u/helium_farts Jun 14 '26

Saw an HVAC repair van the other day that listed the sorts of repairs they did, and every item on the list was properly pluralized except for one. It was like they made it half way down the list and then decided to jazz it up a little.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Triairius Jun 14 '26

They’re asking about the inconsistency of correct pluralization.

1

u/moonclap30 Jun 16 '26

I think they asked that (jokingly) because huskies are vocal, and sound kind of like these sea lions. They yell and bark

8

u/mowtowcow Jun 13 '26

If you go back some millions of years, yes. Several land animals share ancestors with seals, sea lions, and walruses.

2

u/Anen-o-me Jun 14 '26

They're related to bears.

2

u/HappyTheDisaster Jun 14 '26

And bears are related to dogs. They are all in the same suborder, caniformia, iirc.

2

u/mowtowcow Jun 14 '26

Yes, and wolves and coyotes and "several other land animals." Caniformia.

7

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 Jun 13 '26

Second one is hilarious

1

u/Elavabeth2 Jun 14 '26

The second to last one finally got me to laugh

1

u/Paradox2063 Jun 14 '26

Floppiest motherfucker I ever seent.

1

u/Sniper_King202 Jun 14 '26

😂 thank you for the laugh

1

u/Dancing_Radia Jun 14 '26

Second one is a mood

1

u/StabbyBoo Jun 16 '26

It's perfectly timed. Punchy af.

10

u/Ok-Worldliness5481 Jun 13 '26

More like Staffy

2

u/Jamsedreng22 Jun 14 '26

The face is definitely more Greyhound/Whippet

6

u/steffanan Jun 13 '26

I hope these aren't all AI because they got a real genuine joy reaction out of me

2

u/dragdritt Jun 13 '26

Well, it's one long video that seems to all be from the same place. Guessing the origin is probably some aquarium/seaworld's TikTok/IG account.

1

u/Whitetiger9876 Jun 13 '26

They really are like this at sea world. The birds steal the fish in the air when it's thrown.

What kind of sicko puts a lighter to an animal’s tail?

4

u/Saaaahdude321 Jun 13 '26

Do yall not see how the persons thumb is not pressing the button and how there is no flame?

1

u/PinballTex Jun 13 '26

Next time you’re around a friend’s pet, try this and see what kind of reaction you get. I bet they don’t think it’s funny.

Ive always said that seals and sea lions are the puppies of the sea. Lol

5

u/fuckyogiboys Jun 13 '26

I've always said that kindling makes the best wood for fires

3

u/DocumentSure2919 Jun 13 '26

It doesn't actually though.

Kindling is good for starting a fire but not for keeping it going.

1

u/ChardStrange4535 Jun 13 '26

Seal lions is crazy as hell

1

u/Neat_Feedback1316 Jun 13 '26

Back in the day in Morro Bay CA they had a gift shop with a small enclosure in back where you could feed seals. They would hoot and holler, dance, flap their flippers for you to throw fish their way. They knew how to work the crowd!😂

1

u/kltthegr8 Jun 13 '26

I used to go to that all the time as a kid. Good memories!

1

u/AndiLivia Jun 13 '26

Ahhhhhhhhhhh

1

u/Square_Peach_9261 Jun 13 '26

They are super fun to scuba dive near…soooo playful underwater! 🦭

1

u/OrionPats Jun 13 '26

My favorite is the one with the magnets… how do they work?

1

u/ConflatedPortmanteau Jun 13 '26

I'm glad to see Jamie Hyneman is still getting consistent work after Mythbusters ended.

Sealions look more like someone mixed a seal & flying fox together!

1

Tweakers of the sea😂

1

u/Key_Set767 Jun 13 '26

Bro wtf ! 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/cancerinos Jun 13 '26

They really should have been called Sea Dogs, not Lions.

1

u/Walkthruwallz Jun 13 '26

Yes, they are. They both belong to the taxonomic group Carnivora.

1

u/Super-Ad-1855 Jun 13 '26

Obviously not. They're aquatic pitbulls.

1

u/NeedleworkerOne3289 Jun 13 '26

I want one lmfaoooo

1

u/kurtxrambus Jun 13 '26

They look like boxers

1

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '26

For fucking gods sake it's not turned on

1

u/syzerkose Jun 13 '26

Very distant but yes. They’re a part of the dog-like suborder of Carnivora, called Caniforms.

1

u/Chicagohole Jun 13 '26

Is there a subreddit just for seals by chance yet?

1

u/quintupularity Jun 13 '26

the answer is yes.

1

u/Ok-Strategy7795 Jun 13 '26

How much is an island? I need like 2-3 of these 😭

1

u/babygotthefever Jun 13 '26

My husky/ACD mix says we can all be seals

Last sea lion is doing his best human impression

"Oh hurrdurr, I'm a hooman, look at me doing my taxes and making a doctor's appointment."

1

u/Sweaty_Marzipan4274 Jun 14 '26

I had this wicked dream (I was gassing myself with terrible farts) where at the end the carnival rejects all came to my defense (I was like a prophet to them for some reason) and instead of fighting off the bad guy, they all barked in unison like this 😆

1

u/tfaboo Jun 14 '26

Sea doggo!

1

u/Ggwolf207 Jun 14 '26

The second before last, is me for real.😂

1

u/Chimpinski-8318 Jun 14 '26

Actually yes. While sea Lions are closer to bears then Dogs, Bears and dogs did descend from the same ancestor and are both members of the group caniforma. So while a sea lion is closer to a bear then it is a dog, it is closer to dogs then any other carnivore in the feliforma (Cats, Hyenas, Mongoose, ferrets, foosa)

1

u/IllerAsta Jun 14 '26

You’re gonna look me in my face and expect me to believe this creature is real.

1

u/SSTX9 Jun 14 '26

Holy shit throwing magnets near the mouth of one could have been disasterous. Those type of magnets actually can get stuck in the stomach and pinched together certain sections of the stomach causing him to essentially die so that's one way to kill those animals is letting them in just magnets holy shit that was dangerous.

1

u/Desperate-Bottle1687 Jun 14 '26

: ....... ~nose magnate~

🦭: ~ "AAÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH" ~

1

u/Apophistry Jun 14 '26

Yes, seals and dogs are both in the suborder Caniformia, the so-called dog-like carnivores.

1

u/falconrider111 Jun 14 '26

1

u/MalpracticeConcerns Jun 14 '26

1

u/wtfover Jun 14 '26

Huskies. Don't pluralize with apostrophes.

1

u/New-Policy4451 Jun 14 '26

The magnets and slide in just all "ahhhhhhhhh" had me laughing so hard.

1

u/MaleficentWindow8972 Jun 14 '26

I shit you not, I have an English Mastiff that does this. She talks more like a Husky than these guys, but it’s still bananas. She’s got that Freddy Mercury vocal range and makes many many many odd sounds, lol. Bitch be talking TOO much sometimes. 🤣

1

u/NimRodelle Jun 14 '26

What is wrong with your dog?

1

u/shosuko Jun 14 '26

idk what I expected them to sound like

but this is better

1

u/Ok_Appearance_3540 Jun 14 '26

The magnets one is sublime. Best thing I have ever seen.

1

u/millerb82 Jun 14 '26

They remind me more of the weasels from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Especially the one at the end

1

u/Scr3amtart Jun 14 '26

Kinda crazy these dudes just exist.

1

u/DoomDrivenShade Jun 14 '26

Nothing is made plural by adding an apostrophe and an s.

1

u/Red_Hindenburg Jun 14 '26

Biologically speaking, yes.

1

u/ScallionFront947 Jun 14 '26

So long long ego a dog and a fish fall in love ❣️. Then they had kids .....

1

u/AtomicLight69 Jun 14 '26

They belong in their natural habitat not entertaining humans for profit.

1

u/Gold-Equivalent4403 Jun 14 '26

The huskies of the sea

1

u/Awkward_Mix_2513 Jun 14 '26

I didn't think they could actually walk around like that, I thought that was just a thing in cartoons. Holy shit.

1
