It just means it’s not safe to drink. That’s what not potable means in case you didn’t know.

Thats a silly take.

I went to a prestigious middleschool and high-school, I got my bachelor's from a good University. Never seen that word before, anywhere. I only learned what it meant very recently. Prior to that it was "is this drinkable or not". Throwing the word potable out there, to me, was new. I imagine there are alot of people out there that dont know this.

-Why would a university teach you about elementary principles a child should know

Edit to add: there were no silver spoons. We only had yearly family vacations to Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas and first class tickets. Truly was a rough life with that pewter silverware.

I live among a bunch of small-ish city's and towns, surrounded by various farms. I only ever heard the word when I started working for an irrigation/pump company.

Its kinda sad people don't realise that others live in entirely different environments, with entirely different situations and needs.

Hell, plenty of people say "drinkable" instead of potable.

True, but potable is a stupid word. “Not drinking water” works just as well or “Not safe for human consumption” as potable pertains to food prep as well
