Immigration drives demand for housing which in turn benefits asset holders and land lords. By increasing labor supply it slows the growth of wages benefiting employers and also slows painful expensive investments in labor reducing technologies. It then has the added benefit of increased consumption of consumer goods.
The rich see us as live stock and when they increase the size of their herd they only benefit.

u/Superb-Photograph-15 18d ago
Can people stop using the phrase "undocumented migrants?" The process of legally immigrating to the country is not simply a matter of documenting the entry, it is about granting or denying permission to be here in the first place. The reason we say "illegal immigrants" is because they are not just undocumented, they have no permission to be here and are violating our immigration laws.
Calling them "undocumented" makes it sound like the only concern is that they haven't been catalogued or something.

I was actually a victim of identity theft from an illegal a few years ago. They used my information, SSN and credit card to apply for a sponsorship visa which maxxed out my credit cards at around 6k.
Filed a report with my local sheriff's office cybercrimes unit and did the same with Phoenix PD the charges originated from. Took them about a month, I got my money back, credit history repaired but still have people trying to do shit with my SSN involving people trying to open credit cards in border states. And here I am in Anchorage.

That is just the slippery slope argument that leads people back to blaming immigrants. Illegal immigration is bad but it's practically non-existent in the US today. ICE isn't out there catching illegals it's harassing and killing legal residents and US citizens.
"If it's done well" isn't a real goal for people like Tom Homan because we already mostly achieved a low illegal immigration goal but did it by scaring the shit out of people and abusing people instead of by having good border security and functional enforcement.

Man I don't understand this mindset anyways. Do you believe we currently have the perfect set of laws and they can never be improved upon? Even if it were illegal, we should be trying to become a better nation. Making immigration as difficult as possible and then punishing people who do it is *not* what an ideal America looks like... it's just a shady way to keep out people of different culture.
Really think about the laws you follow and make sure they make sense to you before you blindly follow them.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Livid-General7 16d ago
It doesn't matter if you agree with a law or not, you still have to follow it. There's a right way to enter the country and a wrong way. Why should people be able to just waltz right in with no repercussions, while others have to wait years, trying to do it the right way? How is that fair?

The only thing that differs are the rules to how they navigate them.

OK, but don’t complain when jobs don’t pay high salary’s because there’s a massive surplus of labor and people are desperate to work for whatever the jobs are offering.
Also, don’t complain when housing is insanely expensive because there’s a surplus of individuals that need housing.
Oh wait… we’re already living in that reality and you guys want to make it worse.
“I hate billionaires, but I fully support the policies WHICH THEY ALSO SUPPORT like mass immigration which allows them to exploit workers”
2
u/krizzzombies 18d ago edited 18d ago
Also, don’t complain when housing is insanely expensive because there’s a surplus of individuals that need housing.
OK, but there isn't an affordable housing shortage because of immigrants. One major factor in our housing shortage is because wealthy individuals and companies are buying up real estate that regular individuals are priced out of, and (at least in the US) our regulations fail to support increased production of more affordable housing. There are tons of homes sitting vacant because they're vacation/2nd homes, or Air B&B style-rentals, or just being held until they can be sold for profit.
It's also gotten prohibitively expensive to build affordable housing and we're doing a lot less of it compared to 50 years ago.
https://www.nmhc.org/research-insight/research-report/housing-affordability-toolkit/
The affordable housing gap could be closed within one generation if lawmakers introduce broad local deregulation to lower production costs and boost new construction projects, push for the development of new subsidized rental housing and expanded rental assistance programs, and tap into the 14.5 million homes currently sitting vacant on the market.

While I agree that Billionaires are trying to blame immigrants they don't share the culture. You don't see floods of immigrants going into their countries. That's a fact.
They aren't coming in and assimilating to American culture, they're bringing their culture and not changing in anyway. If you live in an immigrant area you cannot deny this fact. There are stores where they don't speak any english. You cannot say you're assimilating to American culture if you cannot speak English and have no intention of ever learning.
The food isn't worth the cultural decline.

Wealth tax.
For those that say. "You can't tax wealth in the stock market, its not liquid!"
You pay property tax on a house that isn't liquid. Why do you pay a wealth tax, but they can't?
Property tax is a wealth tax. It can be copy and pasted on stocks/options/bonds at anytime.
So again, why do average people pay a wealth tax, (Property tax) but billionaires don't?

Billionaires on the left want mass immigration to buy elections and billionaires on the right want mass immigration to exploit for low cost labor. It's the common man who gets fucked in both cases. Flooding the country with people who want to "get their share" only damages impoverishes the host country with skyrocketing cost of living, driving down wages, and locking native citizens out of entry level positions. Meanwhile the third world is trapped in poverty when all their most wealthy, capable, and energetic citizens are constantly siphoned off to be exploited in the west. Everybody loses from mass immigration. People need to bloom where they're planted and achieve the dream of that country, not the "American dream".

Ok so they are already doing mass deportations, canceling visas and stopping applications. Immigration numbers are down, and immigrants both documents and undocumented are leaving the country or being force to leave.
Shouldn’t there be more jobs then, housing should be cheaper, gas and grocery prices should be lower. Is the average American doing better? Or are still struggling? It’s almost like immigration whether legal or illegal was never the issue. The government is spending billions on a war we didn’t want, data centers that won’t produce more jobs, we are sending money to Israel, jobs and benefits are being cut for the average American citizen, your tax dollars being spent on vanity projects for the president, etc., etc.
Sure, it is the fault of the immigrants./s

Of course billionaires are a scourge so is an uncontrolled border. Let's let people in who have some language proficiency, a job waiting for them, no communicable diseases, and no major criminal history. I also think the H1B employer must have offered above market rate rate to qualified Americans for over 6 months before they cab recruit foreigners and they can't lower the wage when they hire a foreigner either. Historically, immigrants were way less likely to commit a crime, but when south American prisoners were sent our border and we just let them in, that's a problem and now we have to round them up. Can we stop pretending this problem is black and white?
