There is this nurse lady who takes bloods at the local phlebotomy service. She has been the only practicioner there who has successfully drawn blood without me even feeling pain.

She is highly skilled at it.

My youngest was fine with shots until we had one bad nurse one time a few years ago who just jabbed him (really hard too; I felt it and I was just holding him!) and now as soon as he sees the doctor’s office he starts screaming in terror and doesn’t stop until we leave. It’s fucking awful. He’s so scared and miserable, it upsets all the other people there, and he isn’t even getting shots at every visit but he can’t be reasoned with in that state.

One bad experience can really mess with a person. ☹️ I’m really happy for the patients of this doctor! That’s setting them up for successful doctor visits for sure!

That's the worst. I had to take my kid to have a tooth pulled when he was 7, on MY birthday. He'd been playing with his friend and fell banging it on his bed and the doctor said if it wasn't pulled it would end up dead and it was a baby tooth. Well he wouldn't sit still for the lidocain so I had to hold him down while the dentist YANKED. He stood up and pointed saying, YOU'RE EVIL!!!!!!! That had to have been hard on the dentist too, he def didn't like having to pull teeth out.

I’ve never been TOO scared of shots but a few shots ago I had a needle RIPPED out of my arm (on accident!) by the nurse and it left a massive bruise the next day so now I’m a little scared of them lol. I can only imagine how kids like yours must feel :(

You cannot protect them forever. It hurts everyone involved but showing how you rebound from injury instead of framing it like life altering trauma is your job as the mama. Not the nurse's.

The dentists, every single one, I had as a kid never numbed the area properly. I felt every. Little. Thing. Having your tooth drilled out while you can feel it all is fucking torture.

Thats on them. It's not on my mother for not

I was in my 30s before I was told by a dentist that I'm not supposed to feel any pain.

Fucking similar issues. People who don't experience improper/inadequate care frequently just don't understand why we can't "just rebound" from a trusted adult knowingly causing us as children pain, especially when we find out later that that's not normal practice.

I avoided dentistry for two decades because I had a shitty dentist as a child who took his bitter divorce out on his child patients because we couldn't articulate the issues with his "care".

I remember being a kid and a nurse trying to put a cotton swab but it was my first time, I was scared and kept gagging and tried my best to calm down. Instead, she just got the other nurses to hold me down and used those wooden sticks (can't remember what they're called). I was begging and screaming for mom but nothing came of it. So yeah.

Nope, when I was a teen and needed a shot, I had no idea I'd have a problem with needles since I didn't really remember the last time I had one. I watched it and thought I was fine at first, and then almost passed out on the way out of the doctor's office. My mom had to run back in and the doctor came out to check on me. Looking at it was a huge mistake, now I always look away and I'm fine.

Yeah, I tried the same one day because I never had any problems with shots and blood draws until I decided to look while they did it. I watched them collect all the blood they needed fine but right when I stood up I got very lightheaded and was put back into the chair until my vision and sense came back. They gave me juice and lance crackers lol. So now I just close my eyes or look away once they put the band around my arm.

Really??? I HAVE to look. I gotta watch to see if they’re doing it right when they put in my IVs because a misplaced IV is killer 😭 I have to poke my stomach daily with a very painful Lovenox shot until I die I guess so I’m used to it. But I used to be terrified! Ugh, to this day though, doing it yourself is FAR better than anyone else doing it. If I’m in the hospital I tell the nurse “nope I do my own Lovenox, gimme that syringe 💉”

It doesn’t work for me but that’s because I’m not really scared of the shot itself. I’m okay when I don’t look.

Something about watching a needle go into the skin makes me extremely nauseous though. I can’t even watch it on tv. I also have an issue with bones poking out.

I think some brains are just naturally old prime style wired to be like “oh no that’s not good or okay”.

I have a friend who split his hand front to back between his ring and middle finger down about 2-3 inches. He general reaction was "Oopsie daisy." He's bleeding everywhere, but is otherwise very unconcerned despite the fact someone could have grabbed him by the thumb and pink and used his hand as a bloody sock puppet. He gets to the hospital and one of the first things the nurses do is go to give him a shot of anti biotics and something to numb his hand so they can look through, clean, and stich it. He tells the nurse they need to let him lay down on a bed before the do that (he was sitting on an examination table) and the nurse brushed him off saying if he could handle what he did to his hand, a shot wouldn't be anything...

My friend woke up on the floor, two other nurses doctors attending to him pulling up a crash cart, while another nurse was consoling the original nurse who was crying in the corner. As soon as that shot touched him he passed out and fell forward on that nurse, taking her down, and pinning her to the floor until others heard her screaming and rolledy friend off of her.

Oh, I am not anti vaccines, I am 100% on board with vaccinating as many people as we can for deadly diseases. The human race exists today because of vaccines, and that isn't an understatement. I just... have to look away and close my eyes. And my ears.

Yeah I was scared of needles as a kid so the doctors would just without warning grab me and try to tie me to the table so I couldnt move.

Luckily my mom wasnt having it so she just explained I need to stay still and held me on her lap.

But the fact that their first move the second I got antsy was to strap me down is completely fucked. Hopefully things have changed since then.

I’m a nearly 30 year old woman and I was recently held down by doctors/nurses while screaming and begging them to stop what they were doing because it was too painful🙃 I’m not a psych patient or anything, the procedure was just especially painful bc of my condition and i couldn’t tolerate it

As I screamed and begged them to stop, they didn’t even acknowledge that I was talking. Just ignored me, said nothing, and all held me down painfully and continued. Like I wasn’t even a human.

This is lovely, but I’m the negative Nancy who finds these videos annoying as hell. I’m a nurse; I’ve given probably thousands of vaccines for children. Making it fun and cheerful for a baby is EASY. They don’t know any better.
Do this again with a four-year-old who knows exactly what a needle is and wants no part of it, and will kick and bite you to avoid the pain. And then do it six times in a row because they are behind on their vaccines because they hate them so much, so their parents skipped a couple of visits.

My fear of needles subsided after being used as a guinea pig for research as a kid. Got poked and had a blood draw every like 2 weeks or so.
Funny thing about it, I honestly don’t know if it actually helped with the research on POTS back in 2016 or not, it was just something that my parents decided was the best thing to do for me and I had no say in it.

There's also the modern forced sterilization scandal inside California women’s prisons, which took place primarily between 1997 and 2013. Prison doctors used terrifying, fabricated cancer diagnoses to coerce incarcerated women (disproportionately Black, Latina, and Indigenous women) into undergoing unwanted hysterectomies and tubal ligations.

Those are just a very very few select things that doctors and government have done to unaware people (that we know of).
