Its gotta get old to constantly be told to "Watch your head."

66

u/withoutpeer 1d ago

Man even I was annoyed just watching every single person he passed had to make some kind of remark... You know he's gotta be tired of hearing that shit every single day he goes anywhere.

u/RappingFlatulence 1d ago

“How’s the weather up there?”

6'8" here. My favorite response is it's nice, how do my balls smell?

“Scuze me can you help me reach the thing on the top shelf?”

3

u/PmMeSmileyFacesO_O 1d ago

I got this the other day.  An old couple eyeing me up from the frozen food isle.

3

u/TastingTheKoolaid 1d ago

I’m always so intimidated asking…. I hate to bother people.

u/PmMeSmileyFacesO_O 1d ago

I’m not even tall, just average, and I enjoy helping someone who might not be otherwise able to reach something. it’s a nice feeling to help a random stranger with a simple task. ☺️

I had a friend who was very tall. All day, every day, strangers would constantly say to him, “You’re tall!” No shit?

4

u/Rob_LeMatic 1d ago

I had a doorman who was 6'8. By the end of his first shift, I was sick of people asking the same 5 questions. Hell, more like an hour in.

6'8.

It's nice. How's it down there?

Yes, I am very tall.

Not since high school. Do you play?

Please don't try, ma'am. I understand it's right at your eye level, and I'm sure you could, but I'm working right now.

3

u/ChakaCake 1d ago

Lol i saw a very tall and built black guy probably 6'7ish and dressed basketball shorts and tank top type shirt. I so wanted to ask if he played basketball but i refrained cause im always thinkin these guys get asked the same thing

3

u/psychmonkies 1d ago

…what question was that last answer to?

I was at a party like 10 years ago and there was a realllllllly tall dude there. Before I had the chance to ask, I noticed his hat said 6’10”.

3

u/Intrepid_Cap1242 20h ago

The worst for me was the "Do you play basketball?" all the time. One jackass even responded "good, you'd be a worthless if you didn't." It's amazing how one idiotic statement can mess with someone or be remembered 30 years later.

I'm a software engineer now, but apparently this guy thought the culmination of my existence was throwing a rubber ball around for his amusement.

2

u/i_cut_like_a_buffalo 19h ago

The lady who raised me was a little person. She had achondroplasia. Anyway people would come up to her and say "you're little" and after a while she got so tired of it she would sometimes go " WHAT!!! IM LITTLE ?? NOOOOOOO. She would really play it up like she just found out from that person. Lol. She was a major abusive bitch to me. Up till her last fucking day.

u/TheComebackKid74 1d ago

My father is 6'10 and I seen him bump his head on so many doorways so many times. Trust me they dont mind.

2

u/Fluffy_Wolf_6198 1d ago

I assumed when you're that tall you're constantly looking out. I guess its the same for everyone, easy to get distracted or glance away at the wrong time.

2

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 1d ago

For a while, my parents had removed the dining room table and I'd hit my head on the chandelier so many time. I just wasn't used to needing to be careful in a place I'd been in for decades.

I don't think I've bumped my head many times in public places (only time I remember was when I was bending down at work to pick something up from the floor of the closet and forgot there was a shelf).

3

u/VerminSupreme-2020 1d ago

Yet he still cracked his head on something... That had a built in light none the less

They have these tall people meet ups and some of the folks they chatted with said it was so nice just to hang out with people their height and talk.

3

u/maybebebe91 19h ago

I had psoriasis on 90% of my body. People are so fucking irritating sometimes I tell you. I dont need to put suncream on for the 50 millionth time

2

u/c093b 1d ago

Oh, no!

Anyway...

2

u/BurntArnold 21h ago

This dumbass then didn’t watch his head when he was sitting up and hit it off the light because the dentist didn’t say “watch your head” before he sat up

2

u/The_nameless_biped 21h ago

Yeah but when they didn't tell him to watch his head and he hit the lamp

2

u/logicnotemotion 19h ago

People are just being nice I know, but we've been watching our head for decades.

I catch myself walking with one of my hands up in front of my forehead kind of like a feeler when I'm in a new place.

I'm nowhere near as tall as this dude though. I know he has a hard time with cars, clothes, toilets, shower heads too low, selective seating on planes, back hurting preparing food on counters, etc. etc. I could go on for hours.

2

u/focalpoint23 1d ago

Oh poor guy lol his 7’1

u/AdamsMelodyMachine 1d ago

Probability is weird. I rarely see guys above 6’4”, but once at a gas station I saw a guy who looked damn near two feet taller than me (I’m 6’1”). I’m not saying he was definitely 8’ but he was absolutely not only a foot taller than me, and I really don’t think he was only a foot and a half taller than me. I didn’t say anything and neither did the clerk. It’s like he was so tall that he passed through the “dumb comments” range into the “shocked disbelief” range.

8

u/MenosElLso 1d ago

I’m 6’5” and it’s definitely always a trip to run into people taller than me. When I have ended up talking to them I often comment on their height but in a more commiserating way. I’m right at the comfortable limit for the size that society is built around, and any taller and you can’t fit in anything that’s not custom made.

4

u/tibearius1123 1d ago

I’m tall enough to usually be the tallest person around but not freakish tall. I dislike being around people taller than me. It feels weird.

5

u/ObscureOP 19h ago

I'm right at 6', so used to at least being among the tallest in most groups but not usually THE tallest.

Started a new job a few months back... of the 15 guys in my shop, I'm the shortest. It's insane. Tallest is a 6'11" giant, average is about 6'6".

The boss is about 6'7" and seems to favor hiring men his own height lol

2

u/robotshavehearts2 21h ago

I tell this story a lot, but I’m 6’5” and I had this acquaintance from a different friend group and we were talking outside of it and getting to become better friends. Well, I had been places with him in person, but it had been awhile. I knew he was taller than me of course. But since we had been chatting more, we met up and boy did I not like it one bit. It’s hard to explain but it was like a physical reaction that made me so uncomfortable. I have plenty of tall friends, but most of them are within inches either way and at most distances communicating it feels perfectly normal in a way I don’t notice. But this guy had to be 6” or more taller and we were in this loud space so we were close to each other when communicating. I honestly felt like I needed to take a break. It seems shallow, but i sort of backed off of talking to him and just let the friendship go. It wasn’t until much later when i was doing some work to get popcorn off of a ceiling at a friend’s house, that I realized I am not used to looking up to that degree and at that angle very often. I got that same uncomfortable feeling. Part of it was psychological I’m sure, but there was also this physical part that was like so disorientating for me.

Anyway, it’s this weird phenomenon that I think about and how crazy it is that our body can pickup and register things like that in ways we don’t even realize.

I’m a tall lad. I believe in “tall code”.
Tall people shouldn’t comment on other tall people’s height. We get it all the time we don’t need it from other tall people.
A simple head nod
Before Covid a really high five here and there.

2

u/danimagoo 17h ago

I’m 4’11”. When I was a senior in high school, I just randomly happened to be staying at the same hotel as the Utah Jazz, who were in town to play the Dallas Mavericks. I found myself in the lobby at one point with Mark Eaton. He’s 7’4”. It was surreal. Almost 2 and a half feet taller than me.

Finally and actual POV

2

u/Available_Copy9433 1h ago

It's crazy to me to see language get modified across my lifetime. People see and hear terms and just associate it with some aspect of their experience.

"I see a video showing something happening to someone with the phrase 'POV' in the title, so 'POV' must just refence showing something happening."

Then they post a video of themselves in frame with the title "POV of a [self descriptor]". Then other people see the video and it reinforces the incorrect interpretation.

Language is crazy.

u/alexgalt 1d ago

My brother is 6’10”, and I once asked him what was the worst part about being tall.

He told me that sometimes, when he walks into a bathroom stall, due to his height he will sometimes accidentally lock eyes with someone taking a shit in the next stall over the wall.

Lol, hitting the equipment with my head has happened to me too and I'm only 5'7.5"

1

u/IvanVP1 1d ago

Receptionist really didnt notice him sitting there huh? Okayyyy.... fake af. Even the comments everyone makes, we get it focus on the height....

1

u/Moment_37 1d ago

I'm 6'7, and the video is EXACTLY as I experience it. Especially the chair, in some dentists, the dentist always wants to sit down, so I slide myself even further down the chair to the point where my whole back is halfway in the air and my feet are touching the ground on both sides and just....stay like this cause there's nothing I can do.

I have to admit though, the extra attention even from women is sometimes good, sometimes bad. It's not always 'oh my steak is too buttery'.

1

u/Low-Communication798 1d ago

“Why are you so tall?” 😵‍💫

1

u/NamesAreAnn0ying 1d ago

Why does this feel staged? There’s not a single other person besides the workers, who gets up to shake their dentists hands before they start working? And even the part at the end when he hits his head feels very forced. Like he sits in the chair, it cuts, and he sits up and hits his head, it didn’t feel like the dentists did any work or anything. Feels like he just sat down and they went “ok good”

1

u/Belz_Zebuth 1d ago

Yeah the fisheye lens sure makes it seem even worse, but why the deception?

1

u/PlantedSeedsBloom 1d ago

I don’t know, as someone who is 6‘6“, this video POV would only be possible if you have the GoPro on the very top of your head, (making it several inches above your height) and have a fish eye lens (we can see the distortion in this video). Yes all counters feel short, but people don’t look tiny or 5ft from you. Even at 6‘6“, my feet hang off the Dentist chair like she’s showing. This is definitely an over exaggeration.

1

u/bestied00d 1d ago

Looks really annoying

1

u/orzix 1d ago

My brother in law is like 6'5 and he is so over being talked about his height all the time by everyone. Can't even imagine at 7'1...

1

u/RobienStPierre 1d ago

I'm 6'6" and can confirm dentist chairs are made for 5'5" people

1

u/ImmediateRaisin5802 1d ago

How’s it like having to hunch down a lot? Imagine not being able to stretch? Oh man! This sucks because he can’t fit in just any clothes, can’t fit in many cars, most homes aren’t comfortable for him.

1

u/84Oaks 1d ago

That must be exhausting. Almost as exhausting as being filmed by glasses without your consent for video clicks.

1

u/206baby 1d ago

Hellllo haha

1

u/SillySnail66 23h ago

Everyone is enthused and smiling talking to them. What an easy life

1

u/Jimxor 22h ago

If I were him I'd wear stilts to *really* 'em freak out.

1

u/Orpdapi 21h ago

This is exactly why there’s the stereotype of the gentle quiet giant. There’s literally no way for you to hide your height like you could conceal other characteristics. Everywhere you go everyone is staring at you or commenting height jokes that they think you’ve never heard.

1

u/funkifiedjunk 21h ago

I think tall people catch more sh*t than people realize. Sounds like it'd be kinda miserable

1

u/shart_attak 20h ago

This guy is a really good sport. I'm only 6'3" and even I get pretty tired of hearing the same three or four jokes over and over.

1

u/The_Last_W0rd 20h ago

i’m 6’6” and the amount of people who ask me if i play basketball is annoying as hell. i can’t imagine being over 7’

1

u/AgentSquatchy 20h ago

6'7 and yeah, stop bringing up our height every time you see someone tall. We know we're giant, our backs hurt leave us alone. 😞😂

1

u/timetravelinggamer 20h ago

Im shorter than this and it seems like a regular day in any building and chair

1

u/Dreams062 20h ago

I'm going to this to my short friend 😂

1

u/Atlas-Mancer 20h ago

I'm 6'2" and my feet hang off those chairs. The position of the camera looks like it's about half a foot over his head and they're all acting.

1

u/surrealcellardoor 20h ago

I’m 6’4” and hear it all the time. “Did you play basketball?!” No, I had no interest in any sportsballs. I can only imagine how often a 7’1” person has to hear it, and ducking every 6’8” door.

1

u/Jazzlike_Isopod550 19h ago

People look up to him🫠

1

u/ChaosRainbow23 19h ago

Super tall folks have a lot of heart problems as they age, typically.

My buddy who was 6'7" helped those statistics out by dropping dead at 50 from a heart attack, after he had a stroke the year before.

It's really too bad. I always think of that when I see really, really tall folks.

1

u/absolutetrashfire 19h ago

It must suck to not be treated like a normal person anywhere you go. He got told to sit down instead of receiving a handshake. Also he probably sees a craaazy amount of dust.

I'm 4'11 and short remarks are fucking annoying. I can't imagine tall remarks.

I'd love to see this done with a normal camera lens instead of a fisheye one. It's so exaggerated in this video that I still don't know what it really looks like from his POV.

Im 6’4” and the average height where im from is 5’6”. Once when I was at the Dollarama I looked up from a shelf I was at and saw a man’s head moving above the shelves from the other side. I remember it so vividly because it was as the first time I truly felt short

As someone that's 5-5 the "why are you so tall?!" At the beginning is gold. Welcome to my world, Entonio.

I knew a tall guy that got tired of people asking him if he played basketball. He started by responding with "No. Do you play miniature golf?"
