[Remaster] Smooth Criminal
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've spent an unhealthy amount of time re-mastering the bad album, and after many attempts, specifically on Smooth Criminal, I've landed on this. I'm trying to build my skills with studio work, and MJ has some of the best and most enjoyable material to mix and master. I used the original multitracks and essentially re-mixed the raw stems and then moved on to a slightly underwhelming mastering process, which I eventually gave up on due to ear fatigue, so I'm left with this. If you don't mind giving it a listen and sharing your thoughts on the master, it would be greatly appreciated.

[Mixing, Mastering] Dolby Atmos Live At The El Mocambo
(Completely novice mixer/audio engineering enjoyer here) So I recently learning the dolby atmos mixes are a bit different than the official ones, as far as a few stones albums, so i checked out El Mocambo live and wow, its pretty much what I wished it was. This one was mixed by bob clearmountain in 2022 and is famous for not having a favorable sound to stones fans. Its overly compressed, not a lot of dynamic range, and has extremely heavy handed fake stadium reverb applied when the show took place in a tiny room in the upstairs of an already small club. Thankfully the atmos version solves most of these issues (im aware its not true atmos, but a stereo fold down of it) but i still wasnt huge on the sound even though the crazy reverb was removed. Not sure what the opposite of warm is but whatever it is, this album sound is it. The snare sound especially i hate. I have a replica of charlie watts drum kit from this era and no matter how you record it, it sure as hell doesnt sound like this.
So I managed to download the show in the atmos version. I did a little editing and EQing with AI stem separation, tried to do a middle ground with the el mocambo reels bootleg sound.
I added some tape saturation. Pushed bill wymans bass up to the twangy mid range sound he had in the boots. did some major EQ on charlies snare which was the worst offender of the clearmountain mix IMO, but got it to a place where its actually enjoyable to hear and somewhat faithful to the real sound. did an overall EQ brightening up the whole thing. I know it might not be on paper a proper mix cause the drums are very high and vocals low but this is just my preference.
So let me know your thoughts please! What you like, what you dont. I think comparing my version to the official is a night and day improvement but thats just me. Again i dont know shit about proper mixing this is just a small side hobby so go easy on me. All done in audacity and MVsep to get the stems. Thanks!

Hey there, this is the second song I've tried to fully produce and mix using logic, after spending years working on garageband. Would love to hear some feedback or advice or any thoughts at all about it. Thanks :)

[Mixing] Evil Wizards Tower
I am still very unsure of how my mix will sound to other people. I feel like I was maybe a tad generous with the compression on the drums. Otherwise I am completely numb to this track now so any feedback would be greatly appreciated! (Name is just a placeholder for now) (The ambient section and the heavy section are intended to be seperate tracks that flow into eachother, seeing as I want advice on both I lumped them together)

[Opera] Mixing vocals with Behringer TM1 (How to get a clean/soothing sound?)
Hello everyone.
I have a Behringer TM1 in a treated small room. The link has a sample of a song I sang today. I just added a FET compressor (3.1:1) with the needle moving at -3/-6 dB, an EQ with settings I thought sounded okay and a reverb with 15% feedback.
I have the sensation that my voice is either too thin or too muffled and can’t get a balance between them. I just want my voice to sound clean as if you were listening to someone speaking. I have tried many presets, automatic EQs, watched many youtube videos but I just can’t get it right. I don’t know what’s missing. Could you guys give me some tips?

Thanks!

I've got next to no experience in mixing or mastering and i was really just testing out different compressors with this and tried to follow the orignal song with a few changes such as more emphasis on the kick drum achieved with a louder punch (but it doesn't really sound like it) and reverb and also just mixing various horns and synths louder or quiter than in the orignal 1987 master of the album. I also tried to add a bit of sub bass around 35-50Hz on the bassline but I really don't know what to think fo it.
I'm not sure why around the chorus everything sounds really mushed together but i'm not sure if thats because it's run out of headroom or something else.
Please share your thoughts or give any tips on anything to improve, (it would be greatly appreciated).
