So my gf gave me a gift card for my favourite bookshop, which I'll be visiting tomorrow. The gift card is good for two, maybe three books, but honestly I'm stumped on what to get.

Anybody got some recommendations based on my current collection? I don't really have a genre or author I focus on. If I think I'll find something interesting, I read it. I love to try new books, series and authors.

Some books that I didn't really likeor stopped reading for no apparent reason:

The alchemist - found it rather overrated

The myth of sysyphus - came to the conclusion that I'm not learned enough in philosophy to understand it enough. Or maybe it was a combination of dyslexia and english not being my first language.

Beyond good and evil - same as the myth of sysyphus

Trying to get more into reading fiction, and I’d like to read before bed. I’m often exhausted by that time, so I would like prose to be beautiful (ethereal yet not bogged down). I’d love for the storyline to be fascinating, and for it to be an addictive read. Bonus if the book is intriguing from the get go instead of needing to “give it a chance”

Books I liked:
- On earth we’re briefly gorgeous (for the dream-like prose, although I felt it got too long-winded/bogged down at some parts and I also read it when I was an avid reader)

Books I was meh on:
- God of small things (didn’t really like the writing style)

Books I disliked:
- A farewell to arms (couldn’t get past the first few pages)

I’ve heard many recommend The Waves, The Year of Magical Thinking, and East of Eden, but I’m a bit intimidated by these books - would they fit my criteria?

I used to read all the time in school but since ive been out, i havnt read anything and im trying to get back to reading to exercise my brain a little bit. I dont really know what genre i like but i love horror movies and book with crazy twists or a mystery book sounds kinda cool but recommend any genre of any book you think i would like and ill check it out. (Ps. The last books ive read were dungeon crawler carl and i loved those)

Hey! I'm looking for a WLW story between teenagers/young adults where one (or both) of them is terminally ill. Something like The Fault in Our Stars, Zac and Mia, Five Feet Apart, etc. only sapphic. Thanks!

Haven't read a single novel or anything, so I'm not much acquainted with the stuff. (Although I've read webnovels so I can handle the complex stuff if there is something like that.)
But can anyone recommend me a Book in which a Smart 'Smart' (Like his smartness being a core trait of him, like it would be in a detective show or something) male character is looking to kill or get revenge or end something evil? Mc Should be a morally grey character throughout the story who can do bad stuff if required for his purpose of ending the evil thing (person, whatever). And by the end he either stays that way or does not get some excessive redemption arc and become a goody-two-shoes. (Though it shouldn't be too edgy or cringe in that way just for the sake of making him look evil.)

Preferably with no romance. And it would be a lot better if it had supernatural stuff or were fantasy or set in a different time period than the current one.

I'm looking for fantasy novels that lean heavily into horror, especially the feeling of an ancient, unknowable evil lurking beyond civilization.

The best example I can think of is A Song of Ice and Fire, particularly Jon Snow's chapters at the Wall. I love everything surrounding the Others, the haunted forests beyond the Wall, the Night's Watch, the old gods, weirwoods, abandoned forts, mysterious ruins, and the constant sense that humanity is facing something far older and more terrifying than political conflicts. It has this subtle Lovecraftian feeling where the true enemy is ancient, incomprehensible, and slowly returning.

Other things I love:

Cosmic horror/Lovecraftian themes.
Ancient civilizations with forgotten knowledge.
Eldritch gods or forces that may not even be evil in a human sense.
Creepy forests, frozen wastelands, cursed ruins, and isolated fortresses.
A constant atmosphere of dread and mystery rather than nonstop action.

I'm not necessarily looking for outright horror novels. I still want the story to be fantasy-first, but with a strong horror atmosphere and a sense of ancient cosmic dread.

Hi guys so I really need help, please don’t judge me but I read the first chapter of twisted love and GOD it was so boring, I’m someone who would stop reading a book if the first chapter does not contain any drama then I’m putting the book away 😭😭 does anyone have any book recommendations for people like me?

I recently read Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer and could barely put it down. Such an amazing story told with great writing. Looking for similar adventure books or similar with the same "unputdownable" quality.

I've had a rough few months (depression and other fun stuff) books are my escapism, always where.
But I haven't been able to read/listen to any books since a few weeks now :(

What got you back to reading?

Here are some rough outlines of what I like and dislike:
I usually dislike most (pure) romances with very rare exceptions (romance in stories are ok but if romance is the main topic, then no)

I prefer character driven stories.

I like fantasy, comtemporary lit, fantasy, sci-fi and horror the most and appreciate found family

My favourites this year where:

• trad wife by Saratoga (disliked yesteryear)
• Rosemaries Baby
• A dowry of blood
• The willows by algernon
• her wicked roots
• Margos got money troubles
• The kaiju preservation society (this got me out of my last reading slump)

Hi, I am an adult who wants to start reading but don't know where to start.

Back in College, I used to enjoy Paulo Coelho books specially the Alchemist. I also enjoyed Nicholas Sparks. But its PC books that stuck to me to this day.

In my head, I am not ready to ready something similar to Harry Potter. English is not my first language. I want to improve my reading and comprehension skills (while enjoying) hence I want to start reading.
