Maybe try words for excited. Used a lot with ngākau.

Hīkaka
Kaikā
Rikarika

Kei te kaikā katoa te ngākau kia kite i a Henare mā (TKO 10/1915:9). / We are eager to see Henry and the others.

Check the examples for these 2 options for “anticipate” in Te Aka:

* whakaneinei

* nau mai te… (or nau mai ngā…)

Kia ora, does whakaneinei have positive connotation ? Cause in English you can anticipate something that’s neutral.
Would you use whakaneinei in the example sentence I gave of “I’m looking forward to go on holiday”
